NIL Article Request

Would love to see an article going into more details on NIL.  What are players in certain position groups making?  What types of deals are they?  It's a very complicated system and I think very misunderstood as many probably think the school is paying directly with the funds at the coach's discretion.  Would be interesting to understand further.  Thanks!

Easiest way to know what positions are highest paid is look at NFL salaries for positions. It's pretty dang similar but not nearly that kind of money. It just gives you a baseline understanding of what positions could demand.

That may be true, but to Brian's point, I think there are some intricacies that would be interesting to learn about.

For instance, where do things stand on 'pay for play' & is there a difference in how that can be set up if the NIL $ is from a marketing partnership, donor, or school funds? Can they provide incentives? Like if you get 5 sacks/TD's vs 10. Do schools handle that differently?

How much assistance do kids get from the schools to help with investment/financial strategies? Does Texas do anything unique/special here that helps the kids moreso than other schools?

I've got tons of questions, but the only info you see on the interwebs is fluff saying someone got $5 million, then others saying it's just a bunch of BS being floated. No real/accurate intel out there.

They cannot have incentives as that violates Texas state law and it is my knowledge that tying NIL to performance is not legal in any of the states that have NIL laws. The closest thing to an incentive that I can think of is that if an athlete from the state of Missouri commits to a Missouri college the can begin earning NIL in HS. They cannot tie the kid directly to the school, although there is some work around to this with how the contract is written.

Currently NIL is provided by donors, crowd funding, and corporate entities. Texas does everything 100% by the book and that is why Texas One Fund is allowed to operate as a 501c3 status. Texas gives a course on financial responsibility to athletes. As far as strategies that will be kid dependent and how good of an agent they have or don't have.

You will not get any specifics regarding NIL from Texas as TOF keeps that under the vest due to it is in the best interest to do so(Not saying they are doing anything shady but it's best for player privacy).

Opendorse has probably the most detailed info on this.  Most of the juicy details are behind a paywall but some info leaks out.  There is no requirement that all 'deals' be public, note, so they only capture a portion of the info.  Here's a link to the most recent yearly summary from them (PDF file)

Here are a few details about position group pay (something you asked about) and conference differences I nabbed on screenshots from an article in (I think) The Athletic last fall, as samples. This info came from Opendorse
