Texas EDGE rusher Barryn Sorrell was named the top DL on the American Team at the Senior Bowl as voted by the offensive linemen.

Sorrell was the lone Longhorn in attendance at the Senior Bowl this weekend and he certainly helped raise his stock after the week of practices.

I spoke briefly with Sorrell about why he decided to attend the Senior Bowl when the rest of his teammates opted out to prepare for the NFL Draft, "I have to worry about me."

Quite the achievement for Sorrell who was in a loaded defensive line group which included Princely Umanmielen, Kyle Kennard, Jared Ivey and Shemar Turner.

no surprise to me...I've gone about actually WATCHING his play...he's one of the reasons for the old cliche' "statistics are for LOSERS"...his "statistics" just don't show his actual play effectiveness...

Great job by Mr. Sorrell.

Unfortunately I think Blue likely made a bad decision.  'nuff said

His Mother and brother have been by our tailgate a couple of times.  Really nice folks, and watchiing his football development I'm betting he's the same kind of guy.  Wishing him the best success in his football career and beyond.

I read several reviews online by various sports groups where they rated or discussed their top player's performances at the Senior Bowl practices and Sorrell was not mentioned one time.  I thought it was strange since the OL there picked him as the number one DL.

For sure.  Ole Miss and Texas 8&5 would never have even made the playoffs without Walter on their rosters, right?

I’m not saying Nolen could single-handedly make a non-playoff team a playoff team. But we clearly were very close to winning a national title. Having a game breaker like Nolen at DT would have made our defense the unquestioned best in the country and possibly been the difference for us. I’m fairly confident we would have won the SEC title game with one star DT like him. We had game breakers everywhere on defense except DT this year. Our DTs were commendable and serviceable, but not game breakers.

It’s like whack-a-mole- last year, pretty much the only place we had game breakers on defense was at DT. This year it was everywhere except DT. Hopefully very soon we will see it all come together at all three levels.
