I’d honestly make Tommy Lloyd say no first before thinking of Miller. Some say Arizona is a basketball school here as some excuse but they’re broke, they have subpar NIL for a “basketball” school. Austin for international recruits would slay. Edited February 22 by Hashtag 2 Quote

Making 3.5 this year, goes up 250K each year through 2029. I thought about Brownell, too. Clemson has always been at a disadvantage in the ACC, as Barnes knew very well. My biggest concern about Brownell is that until this year his teams couldn't sustain momentum from one year to the next, but maybe he's past that now. Quote

That kept them from being an NCAA Tournament team IMO I can see excusing Miller for missing the tournament last year due to not having Freemantle last year, but he went into the season knowing he'd be out, and he previously made the sweet sixteen without him in 2023, and with Freemantle now back he's at risk of missing it again. Of course, Freemantle did miss 3 games this year including two close losses in q1 games, but even so, Xavier hasn't been all that good this year, even if I think it could still make the tournament. I'm not much of a fan and will be disappointed we didn't go for a younger guy if we hire Miller. I never will understand throwing tons of money at a coach when a bigger share of the money could be used to get better players for a younger and better coach. Quote
tylerlindsey2111 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Got a crazy idea for you guys.. hire the architect of UCONN’s offense and pace. Hire Luke Murray. 1 Quote

bierce Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) For those people who want to dismiss the idea of Murray without any real consideration, I offer two names: Jon Scheyer and Tommy Lloyd Both long time assistants at great programs who never had a head coaching job before being hired at Duke and Arizona. Both are doing quite well. Might as well add Hoiberg to that list. He was an NBA front office guy before taking the ISU job, and he did very well there before he went crazy and decided to go back to the NBA. Edited February 22 by bierce Quote
Jordan91 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Brad Stevens. Sure he turned Indiana down but it’s Texas. He’ll love the city and will accept the low NIL, low salary, and since all he has to do is make the tournament, he will love having no pressure! 1 Quote

All he had to do is make the tournament AND not be Rodney Terry. Isn't that what our discussion of a possible coaching change is all about? Not that I think that is fair to Terry. 1 Quote

But he checks very important boxes for me: Strong talent evaluation ... he hit on a lot of guys at Zona. That includes international players (an area Texas needs to be much stronger in the future). It's easy to say, he just signed highly ranked players ... but he did a damn good job of hitting on the highly ranked kids/developing them when others around the sport have struggled. Putting a talented team together on the court that actually plays at a high level. One of the winningest active coaches in the NCAA Tournament. 4 Elite 8's, 8 Sweet 16's and an overall record of 21-12. Plays a pace an style that acceptable/needed. Here is what's most important for me ... it was mentioned above: You give a proven winner that has evaluated players at a high level 3.5-4 mill in NIL ... and he's going bring you a lot of W's. I'm not saying an NC (nobody ever has at Texas), but he would evaluate and build a roster and coach that roster to give you an opportunity in the SEC and in March Madness IMO. ***And here is a final piece if UT job opens ... Texas isn't going to go pay a CBK coach 7-9 million a year more than likely. So who is the best coach Texas could hire in the 4.5-5 mill range that could maximize a 3.5-4 mill future NIL roster ... Sean Miller should be on that list of guys considered. He was going to be the hire last go round, if RT hadn't got the job. Terry is getting 3.8 M in NIL money. A new coach better get more than 3.5 to 4 M Quote

He should definitely give MBB the same financial attention. It's one of the big three college sports after all. I’m happy we are about to land her but I’d sacrifice all women’s programs for the big 3 Men’s sports… that is what matters. Most peoples don’t GAF about women’s sports. I want us to win in women’s sports but don’t get up or down when we win or lose. Chavez and Vic could win it all for sure and effff yes I hope we do.
