One thing to keep in mind is that the NIL resources one would assume would be going to portal prospects could be used to get draftable high school signees to campus. Texas having the ability to fight against losing high school prospects to the draft is a big deal.

We've heard this many times about men's basketball and now baseball.  These HCs have the money, but they're being strategic in how they use it.  Have to let this all play out.

These non-football sports don't have the money fairies some people think they do. Pierce wasn't the best at generating excitement or NIL funds, but it wasn't like there were a bunch of "baseball boosters" waiting on their yachts for a call. I think that NIL is in a better place than a year or two ago, but we aren't that far removed from losing portal prospects to Oklahoma State in baseball over money.

The house settlement adds another layer to everything, as certain schools are carving out larger chunks of the $20.5 million for baseball than Texas is. So any dollar that doesn't come from the house settlement has to be made up for in outside NIL.

But you are absolutely right. Let it play out.

Auburn allocated a larger chunk of revenue share money to baseball than most SEC schools. Same with South Carolina.

Tennessee, LSU, Arkansas have been leading the NIL arms race for a while. That isn’t new.

Given that 1-2 round picks (including compensation and competitive balance) get $1M - $11M, I would assume any high school guys we have projected in those rounds are good as gone. Below that, there might be a chance?

It’s about more than just money. You can’t say oh he would make $1M if he goes but only $500k at Texas, so he’s gone. The minor league baseball life is hard. Look at some of the towns those triple-A, double-A, High-A teams are in and who they play against. Not many fans in the crowd, nothing to do in your free time, and if you are good you likely are bouncing around being called up/down based on what the organization needs.

Blake said previously there’s about a 20% chance Kayson makes it so it’s not very likely, but it’s not a 1-to-1 money decision.

Not going to panic yet but if you’re not near the top in NIL in baseball and men’s basketball then I don’t see how you can expect to compete for national championships

I mean, tell that to half the CWS field this year.

Pierce made CWS 3 times but never competed for a title. I’m not talking about making CWS, I’m talking about winning a title in this era of college sports in that specific sport.

Sure, and at Texas that should ultimately be the standard. There are still teams with bigger NIL than half the field that are no longer competing for a national title. Honestly Ark and LSU are the only big swingers compared to the rest of the bracket. And while it’s unfortunate the way they got seeded, only one of them will compete for a title.
