NiJaree Canaday and her $1mil NIL funded by the Sellers as well as other major investments in the Tech softball program will be going up against the Lady Longhorns tomorrow!!
 

Interesting article from last July with more details on how 2 Texas Tech alumni and major boosters made record setting investments to get into this years CWS.

Mike White has had Canady's number for some reason.  Probably had more success against her than any other team in the country, even OU.  Hopefully that trumps his propensity to come up short in big games at times.  He's already gotten the Gasso money off his back by breaking tendency as Rod Babers would say.  Can he reach the top of the mountain?  Third time's a charm you would think.

Texas and Texas Tech played twice in the Bevo Classic earlier this year:

Texas beat Tech 2–1 in 9 innings. This was Kavan vs. Canady for all 9 innings.

Texas then beat Tech again 9–0, in a game started by Kavan and Samantha Lincoln for Tech.

The announcers really were trying to sell that Canady went to Tech because they would work on her hitting.  That may have been a factor, but I'm hard pressed to believe that the $1 mil was not the bigger factor.  If Tech wins it, it's proven that in softball you can basically buy your championship.

Any Texas fan making “commentary” about another school’s player’s NIL package would be better served looking in the Texas Football NIL mirror.  This is the game, play and play to win.  Texas donors choose a DT or part of a QB over the best softball pitcher in the country.  Now she’s playing us for a NC.  We just need to bring it and light the tower!

"The going rate for a star pitcher in the portal was believed to be in the $100,000-$150,000 range. ... (the) Matador Club announced it had signed Canady to an NIL agreement ... The contract is for one year and $1,050,024 ... The $24 is for Canady’s jersey number. The $50,000 is for living expenses. And the $1 million is for Canady."

Now THAT'S the way a less than successful program can use NIL to full effect to lure stars, big bucks sure, but personalized like $24 for the jersey number.  No to and fro, no 'get back to me with a counter offer', no 'what would it take?' foreplay.   Just blow them away by going all in from the jump. 

I admire their chutzpah, those Tech oilmen aren't fooling around.

Agree.   Gotta respect the ‘do whatever it takes’ approach.   It worked.
