I feel like these are all rational takes. I think Ohio State's OT's are going to be very good, even better than last season but Texas' DE's are advantage Texas against anybody.

In my personal opinion, I think Ohio State is going to have more success running against Texas than they did in the Cotton Bowl. Ohio State returns their entire IOL, plus Texas is replacing their top 4 DT's (from my understanding at least). I know that Texas brought in a bunch of bodies in the portal, so we will see.

Two of the four tackles we lost last year were from the portal. Texas as of late has been spot on in their evaluations. Previously at Texas as to why we were mired in mediocrity is one, we didn't pay enough attention to the trenches on either side, two we would get top ten classes, but it'd be lean heavily on skill positions. One thing everyone would tell you is when we lost Couburn and Ojomo to the draft we worried. Then we lost Murphy and Sweat and were about to crap ourselves. Now we lost Norton, Lole, Broughton, and Collins we're like who's next. Kenny Baker has been a wonderful addition to Sark's staff.

I agree 100%, That's why I expect a solid dose of QB run early to try and stay ahead of the chains. 3rd and long is gonna be a helluva challenge having to go silent count for a newbie QB in that environment. I can't see Sark trying to push the ball downfield much on 3rd down. Much easier for task for Sayin not having to deal with the crowd noise. Sayin is not the same run threat as Arch but the kid has a quick release, a good pocket presence and is mobile enough to extend plays. Wouldn't be surprised to see short yardage/goal line packages for our backup QB Kienholz, not unlike Arch was used last year.

We did lose alot of experence on the back end but we've got a 3 year starter on the field corner and our #3 corner last year taking the boundary. At safety we did lose Ransom who had played alot of football, but we still have Caleb Downs, who many believe is the the best defensive player in college football our coach on the field. Replacing Ransom its gonna be one of two less experienced but very talented kids prob with more upside than Ransom. New DC in Matt Patricia, tons of experience with 16 years in the NFL earning 3 rings. We'll be more multiple than last season with a ton of plug and play kids that will allow him to get as creative as he wants with coverage and disguise. Gonna be a big challenge for Sark, Arch and the offensive staff as they're gonna have to prepare for something different and go back to NFL games for tape.

Idk why Texas even bothers to make the trip tbh.

In fairness to my prediction, Vegas has Ohio State’s o/u at 24.5. I don’t think it is unreasonable to think Ohio State gets a couple field goals or a short field touchdown off a turnover to get to 30-31 points.

Fair enough....I see two young, inexperienced QB's playing against two of the best defenses in the country. We know that typically defenses are ahead of offenses early in the season and Sark and his offensive brain trust don't really have any relevant tape to study re: our new DC Patricia and it's gonna be a tough environment for them. I see a defensive battle and barring a rash of turnovers, I see a one score game with a multitude of lead changes for 60 minutes.

Have you followed Patricia before? He’s not the GOAT DC you’re making him out to be. Remember when Nick Foles absolutely schooled him on the biggest stage? Remember when he was the laughing joke of the NFL 2 years ago?

100% correct.  Patricia has had his struggles, interested to see what he does scheme wise  with the talent he has at OSU.  Good year or two and maybe he he goes back to the NFL as a DC again.  I think  HC ship has sailed for now.

Look up Quandre Diggs’ thoughts on Patricia after he played for him in Detroit and Darius Slay nearly quit on the eagles when they hired him as an analyst. But yes many are now referring to him as the Bill Walsh of defenses

I'm very familiar with him. You're making things up. Where did I say he was the GOAT DC? I said he has 16+ years of experience in the league and 3 rings, at least one as a DC. I said Sark and his staff aren't going to have any relevant tape because he wasn't here last year with this personnel and hasn't coached at the college level in 20 years. About his term with the Lions, it was terrible, so what? Spurrier, Saban, Meyer, Holtz et al sucked in the NFL as head coaches but they have a whole helluva lot of college rings.

Suit yourself, he may not be the GOAT but if he's good enough to be Belicheck's DC for several years and Super Bowl victories and Ryan Day thinks he good enough to hire him, he's plenty good enough for me. If he sucks as badly as you believe, you should have no problem moving the football and lighting up the scoreboard. I'm thinking that ain't gonna happen.....

Perfect, that is exactly what I was looking for! I just followed the show on Apple Podcasts. If interested in an Ohio State podcast, easy 15-30 minute listen, it would be “Austin & Birm”.  This is a daily podcast as well.

I meant to say Gerry is great on evaluating recruits even kids who don’t commit to Texas.

Numerous players have had issues with Patricia in the NFL, rumor to have a very callous/controlling personality.  If those same habits are exhibited at OSU his tenure will be short.  Day will promote James Lauranitis or bring a new guy in next year.

He was one of the worst DC Bill had in the dynasty era. Regardless I’m glad he’s the OSU dc. I never said I was worried about moving the ball? There’s a reason I’m about to put a large wager on Texas to win outright.

Didn’t the entire Ohio State want Day fired after the Michigan game?? Now all of sudden he’s a better program CEO/HC than Urban?
