Will Texas Spend Big in the Portal?

We are returning difference makers at QB and pass rusher, and that is about half the battle in college football.

This roster is not as bad as some try to make it out to be. And returning players are allowed to get better. Did anyone have Parker Livingstone, Brandon Baker, Ethan Burke  and Alex January being plus players on this team a year ago?

We have holes to fill but I’m not sure I would classify it as “major overhaul”.

Ewers was definitely asked to move on by the staff. That’s not even debated. And yeah the others would have required massive investment to keep around for a season but that sounds like what Ohio State did in keeping their 2024 squad together. It obviously paid off. 

Banks and Golden were first rounders. We weren’t going to compete with that.
 

Ewers I could go either way on keeping. Arch is playing at a higher level than him now but perhaps we wouldn’t have dropped the Florida game with Ewers.

Williams was a bit of a headcase it seems and couldn’t be talked (or money whipped) into saying because he viewed himself as a first round pick despite all advice otherwise.

What I mean by overcorrection in my original post is guys like Emmanuel Pregnon, Max Klare, Eric Singleton, etc. they don't leave campus uncommitted. Texas has done well at finding value in their portal pickups lately – and don't get me wrong, that is very important. But there should be no reason to penny pinch as long as your QB is Arch Manning.

Texas needs to land Cam Coleman or Ryan Williams. I have a feeling we will get Ryan Williams. I think you need to keep Wingo but if we lose a guy like Moore, Ffrench, Lockett, etc you need to do it 

I think you would want to retain Lockett. His upside is crazy. I think with Bishop coming in you can like with guys like Ffrench leaving. 

FYI I want to retain all of them.
