  1. We’ve hit on this subject multiple times, but I find it hard to believe the following: 1. Texas will likely have no fewer than eight players picked in the 2024 NFL Draft. 2. Even with that level of attrition, most national media types are suggesting the Longhorns should have as good or better season in 2024. Those things typically don’t square with one another. Heavy attrition, the kind Texas faces going into this season, means the team - any team - will take a step back. Yet folks don’t see it that way. So why is that the case? It’s about the offense more so than the defense. On offense: - Quinn Ewers returns for a third year starting. - The RB room should be fine. Texas blew out two of its last three opponents without Jonathon Brooks already. - Despite heavy losses at receiver and tight end, the Horns nabbed two starters from Alabama (Isaiah Bond and Amari Niblack), a starter and playmaker from Oregon State (Silas Bolden) and perhaps the country’s best kick returner from Houston (Matthew Golden). - The OL returns its stellar left tackle, only loses one starter, and has multiple younger players pushing to get into the lineup. But the defense… - The Horns must replace the strength of the D up the middle. Not just T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy but also Jaylan Ford. - Yet the Horns should be better in both the secondary and at edge. And potential superstar linebacker Anthony Hill is a year older. I don’t know exactly how I feel yet about Texas being ranked so highly this far away from the start of football season. I want to see more from spring ball before I jump out there with Texas being a top 5 team in 2024. Is it possible they are? Yes, absolutely. But let’s see if they mix together like last year’s squad first. “Culture” was a big word for 2023. In my opinion, it needs to be in 2024 as well. View full news
  2. Love hearing that about Wardell Mack. Can’t wait to see all of these DBs in spring ball, plus McDonald and Roberson.
  3. Well articulated IMO.
  4. I love Gus Johnson. Great thing about what he said, he was right either way!
  5. The crew literally ran into a bird or flock of birds and it threw them off their timing or some such. I wasn’t watching but I’ve heard the story from CDC.
  6. This was the shot of the game IMO down the stretch.
  7. Disu's dunk was sweet.
  8. A little celebration never hurt anyone. 😉
  9. Nice road win for RT and the fellas!
  10. Sark has been playing from behind in-state since he stepped on campus. This upcoming class is the first where he will not be IMO.
  11. Confirmed this on Friday. Agree, decent athlete from a good program. I’m a big fan of the Texas PWO program right now.
  12. Above, John Moore talked about the 64 vs 48 decision. Two things: 1. I believe it’s going to be about money. What’s the number that extracts the most amount of money for teams. Do those teams get compensated equally, or are their tiers - first 16, second 16, third 16 and fourth 16? Or first 32 and second 32? 2. He also said it would be harder to shrink than grow. I agree with that ideology completely. So what is the sweet spot - as it relates to the amount of teams - for money?
  13. For decades, the NFL has really only cared about 10 yard spilts for all OLs and interior DLs. But the media has never caught on because it’s not easy to get the data.
  14. For those who missed it, former NFL QB Teddy Bridgewater has been named the new HC at his HS Alma Mater, Miami Northwestern.
  15. Rod and Coach Shipley discuss the draft stock of Texas players, what it means to recruiting and the impact of the departure of Billy Glasscock in this week’s Football Theory.

  17. I think it could be a level higher for both. We’ll see what Sark decides.
  18. Ryan transferred to Texas in part because he wanted to play corner and Ohio State had moved him to safety. As for his speed, what you heard was a bit deceptive. Yes, he was straight-line fast, logging one of the fastest top-end speeds there. But his “acceleration” was exceedingly slow compared to other skill players. CJ had the stat that the quickest accelerator in the Shrine game was 5.33 yards squared per second. Most skills guys were above 5.0. (Next gen stats were provided by a company called Zebra.) Ryan clocked at 4.33 yards squared. Therein lies the problem. Top end fast but doesn’t accelerate fast in and out of cuts made by receivers. Rod B ultimately thinks he’s a safety. We’ll have to see.
  19. I’m with Rhenk. If Texas can be above average against the run next year on D, then I think Texas has a chance to go a long way because the Texas O should be able to put up some points.
  20. Thanks westex!
  21. Hahaha. I feel good about this. It’s going to make them money, so they’re in.
  22. Perhaps that’s the way it should be. Again, the problem I have is foreseeing what model should really be used. The current one has worked for so long, but I’m concerned that now it’s broken. Would anyone be mad if the NCAA continued to operate but just didn’t have oversight on rules? Maybe that’s the way out of this.
  23. It’s in force so people don’t spam the dislike button. That hasn’t been a thing here yet but that’s the idea behind it.
