  1. I think you hit on something significant, the front and back of the defense being in tune with one another. I can't say I saw that until the final two games of the regular season and the Big 12 championship game.
  2. Then you'd be a no-fun, crotchety old man. 😉
  3. Video: http://www.hudl.com/v/2MZWmp Starts with some offense but gets into defense.
  4. Texas LB coach Johnny Nansen returned to California today. He visited with staff at Narbonne HS in Los Angeles. Narbonne is home to linebacker Mark Iheanachor, who Nansen had already offered while at Arizona last season.
  5. Three at least, possibly four.
  6. More in the SEC footprint. Again, it's not just lip service anymore. The Horns are going to recruit the South like it's home base IMO.
  7. I think there was some of that happening a couple of years ago. I don't think it's the case anymore. I think Charles doesn't really value the opinion of coaches very much or enough, especially coaches who recruit from a position of authority/power. Or if he does, he certainly doesn't do it much in the state of Texas as he does elsewhere.
  8. Charles Power for On3. He is a good guy and works hard at his job. Overall, I think he has done a good job historically. But no one is perfect.
  9. Thanks for joining. Look forward to talking about the Horns!
  10. He's a take. Baker wouldn't have made him a first stop otherwise.
  11. This is what 40 TDs looks like. http://www.hudl.com/video/3/14958311/64deebfcbd75820a0c998e36
  12. Tyler Chapel Hill running back Rickey Stewart has been committed to SMU for months. But not anymore. The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder, announced his change of plans via a Twitter post earlier today. Texas is expected to be a key player in his recruitment. The Longhorns offered him a scholarship on Jan. 20, the program's first Junior Day of the new recruiting cycle. Stewart rushed for 2,855 yards and 40 TDs last season, averaging more than 10 yards per carry.

  14. Request for a couple of you. Can you guys add a profile pic or gif to your profile? It's fun being able to identify people by their username and their profile pics.
  15. I don’t have a legit measurement on him. On3 lists him at 6-1.5 and 260.
  16. No one in this industry knows how hard and divisive national rankings can be than me. I did it for the first 15 years of my career. So I give Charles and others who do it a lot of grace. However, I'm noticing some trends, some of which I took up with Charles previously. I don't agree with all of it, but again, doing his job is difficult and you'll never please everyone. BTW - Hashtag, I really like your avatar!
  17. Guys, I didn't like the me-versus-them mentality when it started, and I don't like it now. All I truly want this place to be about is: The Longhorns. And our fandom surrounding the Horns. That's it. I'm too old for micro drama and chest-puffing about websites. As for Gerry, he's one of my best friends in life. Never say never, so I say just not today.
  18. You're right. It's hard to see much in the secondary at IMG. IMG had five D-I defensive linemen. QBs were running for their lives. Didn't see much with Jordon Johnson-Rubell for the same reason IMO.
  19. New Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker was on the road yesterday for the first time as a Longhorns assistant. He made the rounds in Houston. As has been reported, Baker visited Cy Fair's Landon Rink. Rink's father Shane played for the Longhorns. On Texas Football has learned that Baker also took the time to go see Spring defensive lineman Floyd Guidry. Both players have offers from the Horns and both were in Austin for the program's junior day January 20. ** Just because his father played for the Longhorns, some assume Rink's recruitment is a foregone conclusion for the Horns. That is not necessarily the case. While Texas holds a special place in the family's heart, both A&M and OU have been recruiting Rink hard. And they've been doing so longer, including when Bo Davis was the Texas DL coach. Davis, frankly, was not recruiting Rink hard. Oklahoma assistant Todd Bates has been particularly dogged. Rink told CJ Vogel yesterday after the visit that he liked Baker's "energy". That's a step forward in the process. Texas has some ground to make up in this recruitment. It's not insurmountable, but it bears watching. ** I spoke to a pro scout last night. They were impressed by Christian Jones yesterday, who worked at tackle for scouts. "It's my first time seeing him up close in more than a year," the scout told me of Jones. "He's remade his body. He's done some real work." As far as his play? "He's looked good. From talking to our area scout the question was, can he be a starter at guard for us?" "I think he can." Answers like that will move Jones up draft boards. Good general managers make their living finding starters in the 3rd and 4th round along the line of scrimmage.

  21. The difference in pass rush between Texas and Michigan was there for all to see. PK needs more difference makers on D, especially pass rushers.
  22. Some highlights: https://www.hudl.com/video/3/16246324/655cf7a88cde9a04e8331a55
  23. Major Preston Jr., safety from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., was offered by Texas earlier today. Preston was one of IMG's starting safeties last year. Texas signee Jordon Johnson-Rubell was the other.
