A good blocking and defensive effort from the Longhorns tonight. They held Arkansas to 0.124 hitting percentage and had 13 blocks. On a night where both Stafford (9 kills on .200 hitting) and Spears (5 kills on 0.67 hitting) struggled, Abby Vander Wal picked up the slack with 13 kills on 0.393 hitting. This team can win multiple ways, especially against subpar competition. -

The Big 12 is a really tough soccer conference, I don't think this is a matter of tougher competition. Considering how poorly they did in the non-conference, against some bad teams and how they have struggled against the bottom of the SEC this year, this is just a bad soccer team. Losing Missimo, Byars and others has hurt but there is never a reason for a team to absolutely fall off a cliff in talent like this one has. -

Some mixed results for the Cross Country teams who competed in by far their most competitive meet of the year. The women finished 12th overall, behind 5 ranked teams but also 6 unranked teams including Arkansas who they beat head to head 2 weeks ago. They did beat #3 Florida. Overall, I think it is hard to know which teams are running their top runners and what the race strategy is for these teams (ie, are some teams focused on getting a good training day in vs running all out to win a meet) The Men had a less competitive field than the women and finished 4th, with 2 ranked teams finishing ahead of them. They beat #22 Arkansas who they lost to head to head 2 weeks ago. SEC Championships in 2 weeks and regionals 2 weeks after that. I don't think we will know what to expect until it happens. -

Nothing positive to report for Women's Soccer. After the surprise victory over ranked Vanderbilt, the team has gone on a 4 game losing streak and is 15th in the conference. They will miss the conference tournament. The real question is, does Ange Kelly coach this team again next year. CDC wants to compete in each and every sport and this team is by far the worst on campus and has been consistently so for years. The performance this year is the worst soccer season of all time for Texas and one of the worst athletic seasons by any team on campus in a while. -

Texas hit 0.000 in the first set - thats 7 kills to 7 errors in 31 attacks. The service errors on top of that led to the lost set. Much more efficient in the 2nd and 3rd sets, hitting 0.385 and 0.366. Defense made all the difference overall, holding Bama to hit 0.148 overall. Service errors were too numerous today. You gotta serve aggressively but balanced enough that you don't give up too many free points. -

Required sports actually only impact larger programs. You have to have a lot of sports score points for the required sports to come into play. I broke this down a few posts above, very few schools have their scores impacted by required sports. -

Yes, a 4-1 loss tonight to South Carolina. This season will be one of the worst in the teams history. -

Well, this team flirted with history with their streak of sets won but fall short. Either way, this is an impressive run to start the season undefeated against some of the top competition in the country. I like that this team got pushed in the match and kept fighting. I also like to see them run away with the 5th set unlike their earlier 5th sets where they got down big. The game to 15 makes it so hard to make a comeback. -

This team currently has 7 3-0 sweeps in a row. The record is 9 in a row, completed twice in the 2007 and 2009 seasons. In 2004 the team had 8 consecutive sweeps. In 2009, the team won 30 consecutive sets during that 9 match sweep streak. They could have run the streak to 15 matches but they dropped a set to #6 Nebraska before reeling off 9 consecutive sweeps. They beat two ranked teams during that streak. The team lost to penn state in the championship finals. The 2007 streak of 9 sweeps included 30 consecutive sets won and wins over ranked OU (twice) and #1 Nebraska. That team lost to #5 USC in the Elite 8. The 2004 run of 8 consecutive sweeps came at the beginning of the season and included no ranked opponents. They won 24 consecutive sets. -

Tennessee is ranked #17 and is the 4th highest ranked team in the conference currently. Texas will need to continue their sharp play to win this one. Can they extend their streak of winning sets? -

Good News, Bad News Good News - Women's CC is now ranked 2nd in the region after beating Arkansas head to head and is expected to earn the 2nd AQ spot for the NCAA Championships. That would guarantee a top 31 finish and 43 points. Not a bad result for CC. Men's CC still expected to finish top 5 in the region which earns 28 points. Bad News - Women's Soccer ties up the game vs Florida late but gives up a late goal to drop another SEC match. They are in need of a couple good results to make the SEC tournament and keep their season alive. -

Elliott has been amazing for Texas volleyball. Volleyball is the higher profile sport with more teams competing but Coach Reese with swimming had a really long run of dominance. Two of the best to do it at Texas over a long period of time. I’m not sure any coach in a big 3 sport has had that type of success, especially in the modern era. Wooden at UCLA was something else but I don’t think he could go on that run in today’s NCAAs. -

Pretty encouraging results for the women who win the meet by knocking off Arkansas due to stronger depth. In CC, your top 5 runners are scored and while Arkansas' top 3 runners finished 1,4,5, their last two finishers were 38 and 72. The top runner for Texas was Elizabeth Pickett in 3rd, followed by Isabel Conde De Frankenberg in 9th, Melody Espinoza in 13th, Syndi Wilkins in 17th and Lily Fawcett in 20th. Teams scores were 52 for Texas and 103 for Arkansas. Will be interesting to see the updated USTFCCCA rankings on Tuesday. Texas women should move ahead of Arkansas. Tulane has been the number 1 team in the region and likely remains there. -

The men have finished in what is essentially a head to head Texas vs Arkansas with a handful of other small division schools mixed in. Texas got smoked by Arkansas, their top 4 runners finishing 1,2,4,5. Texas top 4 runners 7,9,10,11. Biggest problem I see is that Texas runners got beat not only by Arkansas but also runners from Oral Roberts and Northwest Missouri. -

First meet with some legit D1 competition and the first meet where the Texas teams will be at full strength. There will be a few season debuts for returning athletes as well as some grad transfers. -

@Bobby Burton mentioned this on the livestream. Texas volleyball has won 20 sets in a row, starting the streak in sets 4 and 5 against #4 Louisville and going on to sweep the next 6 opponents. Those 6 opponents included #9 Arizona State, #9 TCU, #21 Baylor and #21 Missouri. They look to keep that streak alive this Sunday against Mississippi State at Starkville, 2 pm , SEC+. -

Perhaps we have our answer about the soccer team after the big Vanderbilt victory as they turn around and drop the rivalry game 1-0 against a very beatable A&M team. Today is Ange Kelly's birthday by the way! -

I misspoke in the interview. Softball actually has the next most teams competing of the team sports. And it has become very popular to boot. football after that. those two would be my top picks if they decided to add required sports. -

A big win for Texas Soccer over #13 Vanderbilt, winning on a penalty kick in the last 10 seconds of the game. Could this be a young team turning things around for a strong finish to the season? Or just a positive outlier on the season? Next game vs A&M on Thursday. -

In 2018, required sports were added and included Baseball, M & W Basketball and Volleyball. Women's Soccer was added last year.
