  1. Teams ranked 8, 12, 13, 14, 15, 23 and 28 failed to advance. Texas has their sites on a top 5 finish so these teams don't exactly make that much easier - but it does slightly decrease the overall competition to advance to match play.
  2. That 1V8 race at the NCAAs is going to be very exciting to watch. 3 boats going at it, all with a chance to win a natty most likely!
  3. After knocking off #1 (at the time) Stanford H2H, Texas will face off with #3 Tennessee at the SEC championship this weekend. If they beat Tennessee, they will be an obvious favorite going in the NCAAs. Caveat being, the head to head results during the "regular season" don't always hold up when NCAAs come around. Also, Texas lost to Stanfords 4 person and 2nd string (2v8) eight person boats. They did win the 1st string (1V8) boat which is the most valuable. All that to say, it is possible Texas drops points to Stanford and other teams as well during NCAAs. That NCAA regatta will be interesting to track for sure.
  4. Glad I could help. And yes, there will always be small amounts of variability among those of us that track this thing. I am glad to have a handful of others out there doing some tracking as it helps create a consensus. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have a question about scoring in a particular sport. There have been some oddities over the years that I have had to figure out (sorting out all the ties in golf after regionals is my least favorite part).
  5. You said 20 sport cut off. It’s 19 sports. That’s probably why our score prediction is different.
  6. https://x.com/Direct_Cupdates/status/2049456363336589434 UCLA, Florida have chances to add significant points in Tennis this weekend if they can advance. Stanford could too but the gain would be limited as they have sports already expected to score around 60 points. Texas needs to see both Tennis teams advance, either not advancing would lead to a significant score drop. 1 seed Stanford, 2 seed Texas, 3 seed UCLA in beach volleyball this weekend as well. Any change better or worse this weekend would adjust predicted score as well.
  7. I am in New Orleans, not far from Gulf Shores. Not in the cards this year but maybe I'll plan to take a beach trip with my family during this week in future years!
  8. Texas got the 2 seed, would meet 3 seed ucla in the semis. I think this is best for Texas as they are 3-2 on the year and have won the last 3 against ucla. Stanford gets the 1 seed, Texas is 0-3 vs Stanford this year.
  9. It does, the NCAA tournament. Not the MPSF conference tournament they just won though. They should get a really good seed for the ncaa tournament, top 3, and have a great chance for a top 4 or better finish.
  10. Nope. Not at all. I think it makes sense, so many more data points in a regular season. Also, if you used the conference tourney, you’d have so many ties just by the nature of the bracket format. Regular season does a better job of stratifying teams.
  11. For the All Sports Trophy, sports with a true regular season - like baseball and softball - it is the regular season finish that counts. sports without a conference regular season - like track and field - it’s the sec championship finish that counts.
  12. The regular season tennis championship does count for SEC All Sport Trophy. Texas moved into the lead.
  13. Yep, directors cup and all sec trophy but will likely lose lone Star showdown. A&M winning sports that both teams are bad at - w soccer, M&W cross country - give points for lone star showdown but don’t impact directors cup that much. The teams split volleyball matchups but A&M won the regular season which is the one that counts for lone star showdown. Both had good directors cup points in volleyball.
  14. Yes, conference level results do not impact the directors cup. Only NCAA championship competition.
  15. I updated the projected finish this week, after being on Coffee and Football. Texas improved in Beach Volleyball significant and Stanford fell in W Lax. The margin increased quite a bit.
  16. Thanks to all who joined in on Coffee and Football this morning to talk Directors' Cup. Here are two new graphics just for you guys. An updated top 10 showing results after basketball wraps up (only Texas and Michigan still active) and a new projected final finish.
  17. Will keep a close watch but I don’t think so. Their track and field teams carried a lot of weight for them last year, they are not strong this year.
  18. Scholarship numbers were pretty limited and split between CC and T&F. But not anymore. Can Texas take advantage of that?
  19. Looking like a close finish. A lot to play out over the next few months!
  20. We need all of them to do really well honestly.
  21. I can't really understand it either. We do have two incredible sprinters coming in next year - sisters that have the #1 and #3 all time high school records for the 60 m indoor as well as other sprinting accolades. But, there has certainly been a lull in bringing high end talent to the track program. It is a tricky sport to recruit to because of scholarship limits. Especially on the men's side. All the scholarships have to be split between T&F and CC. Seems that Texas always focused the scholarships on T&F. There are no longer limits, only roster limit which I think is like 45. That excuse is mostly off the table now, or at least whenever Texas is able to fund all 45 scholarships. T&F and CC make up 6 out of 21 sports on campus for Texas. That's 28.5% of the athletic program and the lack of high end results there would be the biggest contributing factor to us not winning the Directors' Cup this year.
  22. We need that, plus other top finishes from our highly ranked programs (M Ten, rowing, beach volleyball, etc) to be in the running with Stanford. My biggest concern right now is track and field. Both are ranked in the mid-teens currently. We need that or better to stay competitive. And then, it also depends on Stanford. Both basketball teams are on the bubble - we need both to miss the tourney. What about Stanford baseball? They haven't had a strong start to the year. We need them to miss the post-season as well.
  23. Stanford Men's Hoops has been a regular 0 for them recently. They had a hot start but have fallen off recently and are probably not a tournament team this year. Their baseball has been up and down. Missed the tourney last year. Not ranked to start this season but they have a history of being pretty good. If they return to being a top 16ish baseball program, itll be tough to beat Stanford consistently in the Directors' Cup. Women's basketball was a perenial power but their coach retired and they were awful last year. They have rebounded (pun intended) this year and are likely in the tournament at this time but have also lost 4 in a row. If they continue to slide and fall out of the tournament, that would really open the door for Texas.
