Arch against Florida - Rating
diegozanna20 replied to diegozanna20's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Arch needs to play in rhythm, and Sark needs to find a way to play in rhythm. He can make those off-script plays but he's also gonna make some dumb decisions when off schedule. After re-watching it I think he kinda had a worse game than what it looked like yesterday while still showing some good signs. Again I do want to emphasize that running for your life almost every snap definitely didn't help him in looking the part. We need to start seeing some big jumps in development for Arch or it's gonna be a long year. I think the ceiling is still as high as it's been for him, it's just that the floor is so much lower than what people expected. -
So I've actually come around from saying that Arch played a good game but wasn't helped enough to the opinion that Arch didn't play good enough early enough. He said it in his press conference, about needing to start faster. Arch needs to start faster. He really got in his element only in the third quarter and that's way too late. I get it, the OL didn't help and I'm 100% sure that with a little bit more help Arch would've looked totally different both early on and overall. Also, after he got going in the third quarter he also started to play hero ball too. That can't happen. Just needs to play his game, take what's there and move on. But it wasn't good enough, simply. It can't take 3 quarters to move in the pocket well enough to make some plays, even if the OL play was abysmal. OU is gonna be a big test for him, again. Is he gonna take 3/4 quarters to get used to the speed of everything or is he gonna be able to start faster? Is a bad performance like Florida gonna linger or is he gonna have gold fish memory? Is he gonna look more confident and poised in the pocket overall? I think from the third quarter he was really comfortable and had he not started to play hero ball we might've even won the game. I hope Sark also helps him that way by starting with very simple one read kind of throws where you don't have to think and you just rip it, slowly progressing to the more advanced stuff. Again, I REALLY THINK that his performance would've looked totally different had he had a little bit more time on some throws, but that doesn't excuse some of his inability to make plays when he could've. I would rate his performance a C honestly. It wasn't good enough but he seemed to get the hang of it more and more as the game went on and the OL/RBs didn't help him at all very early on. Could've had some big plays had the OL given him 0.5s more.

Nah you can find people on patreon selling it (not sure if they have every game) and those people get it through their connections.
-
Not really, the universities are pretty stingy with it, to my knowledge (Not gonna give it to a random fan, you gotta have connections inside the building to get it). Also you're not gonna see a lot of film study from the SEC game on youtube because the SEC strikes all the channels that use their IP

Through the mud might be the best thing for Texas
diegozanna20 replied to Jose Rodriguez's topic in On Texas Football Forum
There is NO QUESTION that if the offense and Arch specifically do come out of the other side they're gonna be better for it. We talked a lot on this discussion board about how this is one of the first times in Arch's life he's had to deal with adversity. Sark said it too, and he was confident that when he does come out of it he's gonna be so much better for it. -
The Yips/shanks and how to beat them

I know that quote has become a meme but that is genuinely that mindset that Arch needs to have especially this week against SHSU Lagway threw 5 picks against LSU... F-I-V-E ! You think Arch would EVER throw that many? He throws one or even misses a throw and completely melts down! I think on saturday if he threw a second pick he might've benched himself! You gotta and you're gonna make mistakes in football so don't worry about that, just focus on fixing them after the game... -

I'm sure he can ask Nick Brooks or Wardell Mack about it Maybe Wardell Mack is better cause Brooks' gonna snitch again -

Truth is we may never know what he does/is going to do but I've said multiple times on this site that, other than obviously talking to a sports psychologist, meditation would help Arch so much, just staying grounded and in the moment, feeling appreciation for the position he's in etc. If it's anxiety he's feeling (again, we're probably never gonna know so I don't want to speculate) meditation is scientifically proven to help so much with it. -

There's too many things that a QB needs to do pre-snap and post-snap to be worrying about what the outcome of a play needs to be. That's what Arch is doing in my opinion. That's why the errant throws always come when he's throwing to Wingo (who he wants badly to form a connection with) or in the redzone, or after a series of negative plays. I think he knows it, and that's why his main answer to his problem is "I need to play my game"... That's his way of saying that he just needs to shake of all the thoughts of the outcome and just focus on the process, while playing loose and having fun. -

1) Mixing in a good dose a running game for Arch is essential. If he's not lighting it up in the air he needs to feel like he is doing something to help the team win. 2) Go back to the basics and focus on every play on doing everything right, even something as simple as handing the ball of to the RB. If you're concentrating on every detail then doubt has no time to settle in. So in some ways, focus on the process, not the outcome. 3) Confidence and self worth HAS to come from within: even if Arch doesn't feel like he deserves to praise himself he needs to. You can't play the position if you're not confident in yourself as a player. 4) Sark HAS to make an effort to make Arch feel like he is NOT the centerpiece of the offense. Not sure specifically how but he gets paid 10 million a year to figure it out. -
Comparing ceilings this year between Arch and Quinn
diegozanna20 replied to ChanmanV's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Yeall well no 💩 dude what kind of take is it to say that 4th year starting quinn would do a better job than this. Letting Quinn go for Arch was always about the ceiling of Quinn, that not being of a championship team. Of course the way it looks right now we might not even make the playoffs so in retrospective it might make you think that you'd rather see another semifinal appearence rather than not making the playoffs at all. I don't really understand what we're even discussing here. Arch needs to figure it out, mentally. We're not going far without him. -

Do we remember how Quinn looked against Georgia the first time around last year? He'd do a better job than Arch right now, no question, but he does not raise the ceiling. We're not winning a championship without Arch this year, so if we want to he has to figure it out and he has to be helped by Sark, who's making 10 million a year to do so. Again we're talking about someone's confidence here, this is not a bum QB with no talent where there's just no light at the end of the tunnel. He has all the tools and if Texas wants to win it's gonna be with Arch working through it, not giving up and not be given up on. -

Moving on indefinitely isn't gonna do anything good for this team. I've said it already, Arch is by far the most talented in the room and the ceiling drops a lot for the offense if Arch can't figure it out mentally. Sark's job is to find confidence in Arch, go back to the basics, and stack successful performances. He has got to stop making Arch the centerpiece of the offense, full stop. Whether that's heavy running game, lots of RPOs and screens I don't know, but he gets paid 10 million a year to figure out how to go back to 2024 MSU Arch. -

I don't know about 4-0. Patricia wouldn't have played Quinn the same way he played Arch, and if he was able to create the perfect game plan for a QB with 2 starts I think he would've fared well against 4th year starting Quinn. But yes, for making the playoffs we'd need just C+ / B- games from Arch every game -

4th year starting Quinn would be much better, no question. Arch has to let it loose. It's not easy. Maybe he's just never going to be able to. But that's what he has to do. He's too hung up on the mistakes that he makes that they compound. Right now he's feeling all the pressure of the world on his shoulders. He just has to let it loose and have fun. He has the skills to do it. He has to work through the mental side of things and he has to make it a priority to do so. He also has all the resources necessary to do so. But it's gonna be hard. When a player loses confidence it's hard. -

I don't think he knows how right now. He's too much in his head. He's got the resources to make changes in his routine or whatever but it's not easy when a player loses confidence. -
Maybe he does but it never got talked about: 1) Does Arch go to a therapist/sports psychologist to talk about the pressure he faces/the anxiety he feels about having to perform? Does he meditate? I would guess no if a guy completely melts down after an overthrown wheel route... (meditating/talking to a therapist WORKS, like scientifically proven that it does...) --> If he doesn't, no one in Arch's magic circle of trust thought that developing Arch's mental fortitude (through meditation or other practices that help you remain grounded) was something that was as important as being able to throw good? If you ask me the Manning's, having seen Peyton and Eli go through it, thought to do the same exact things that they did when they were in college, misjudging how much the world has changed, especially in terms of pressure on young QBs making millions of dollars while leading 40 million dollar rosters. --> If he does then either they have miscalculated how much more he needs to work on the mental side of things or honestly, he's toast. If they have been putting a lot of emphasis on it already then Arch may just not be cut out for it. - It may be a misjudgment of character on my part but seeing Arch's interviews it seems to me like he's been trained to just brush off any hint that the mental side of things are the reason he's not performing up to standard. If he's just saying what the media wants to hear ("Gotta play better") then whatever, but if he actually thinks that he just needs to keep on and he'll magically improve mentally then he's dead wrong. The rest of the year working through the mental side of things should be as much of a priority as watching film or going to practice.
-
Arch is not injured and it is all mental. You can't tell me a guy that loses all confidence after an overthrown wheel route doesn't have mental issues to work through. What I am most worried about is: 1) It is not easy or guaranteed that he can work through it, some people just don't have the mental fortitude... You can always get better, but how much? And how long does that take? 2) Everyone around him, including the manning family, did him a disservice. There is no chance in hell that no one saw red flags in how Arch handles all this pressure and if they did they should've steered him to get help about it as soon as possible. If no one saw it then Arch is incredibly good at masking it and that is very stupid to do. If you feel a lot pressure/anxiety masking it doesn't do anything about it and in fact it represses it. We're in 2025, feelings aren't something you repress, it's something you work through, especially as an athelete with all the resources in the world at your disposal. From Sark to Milwee, being a QB guru doesn't only revolve around Xs and Os... why do we see Texas qbs loose confidence or not have confidence to begin with? What the hell is Milwee saying to these guys?
-
Arch has no problem whatsover with arm strength... no he doesn't have a joe milton type of arm or even josh allen but he's gonna be fine... He's got a stronger arm than burrow and even more arm talent, not to mention he's a better athlete. With Arch the last thing we need to worry about is talent... If there's one thing that jumped out the tape saturday was that he's actually really raw and I'd advise against judging how his mechanics/footwork are just from the OSU game. He's got the best supporting cast a QB could ask for and I can assure you they've been teaching and honing fundementals since before middleschool... his clock was just too sped up on saturda, he needs to get a lot more comfortable playing.
-
Last point is so important. I think Coach Erwin talked about it and I completely agree... Arch was missing that swagger that makes him who he is on saturday. He himself said that he plays his best ball when he's having fun, and I'm sure he wasn't on Saturday... I think this really comes down to experience, being able to tap into that mode even on the road...
-
It wasn't just the coverages, it was a mix of a lot of things that rattled him... I think number one he wanted this game really really badly, too much maybe, so much so that he went into it thinking he'd have to do it all alone: that's a ton of pressure to put on yourself... Also I think CJ made a great point: he was expecting something like Georgia last year but it never came, so in many ways he wasn't trusting (as much as he should've) his oline AND himself, because apart from running the ball if there's one thing that Arch did really really well saturday was actually maneuvering the pocket. That's instincts, and you can't teach those... He just gotta trust in his abilities to move in the pocket more, step into throws... Process faster so he doesn't have to spend too much brain power diagnosing the defense to allow him to keep the same great footwork and mechanics he's had since like middleschool
-
I'd say to all the texas fans that still feel uneasy about the future of Arch to watch Chase Daniel's breakdown on youtube. Much less "apocalyptic" about how Arch played than other people who analysed his game. Biggest problem was for sure the mechanics but he actually wasn't processing things as badly as people think, and we're talking about things that he probably never saw up until saturday... I'm telling you, a lot of people in the media nationally will backtrack as the season goes on and will be back on the hype train... (Not sure if that's good or bad) Just need the game to slow down a bit, whether that was due to emotions, not being used to seeing the kinds of coverage he saw or maybe just wanting to be "superman" so badly that he ended up doing the opposite ( or all three) I don't know, but I really think he'll be fine.
