Bobby has said that Texas is going after more developmental players late in this HS class cause they're preparing to be very aggressive in the portal. I'm gonna predict that no fans here are gonna be complaining about what we're gonna get in the portal lol. Also wanna mention Texas' success rate in the portal. They can scout REALLY well there. The misses are mostly due to character, not talent etc... There's holes here and there but I'd be very very mad if next year we don't have a downhill running game that teams fear to open up the play action and give arch more time in the pocket. IOL and RB to me, along with some changes in the scheme, is paramount. PARAMOUNT. We can live with not getting the #1 WR or TE for example, but we desperately need a very very good interior of the line and a starting RB. On defense safety and linebacker are the priorities for me. I think the young guys at DB are gonna be really good next year and 5 might even come back another year.

What is the worst job in P4 Football?

Gotta be Purdue I agree with Gerry -
Gotta be 2 or even 3 guys in the interior for OL and at least a starter at RB that we know is gonna produce, you can find the at the G5 level for cheap. Don’t really care about WR, I think we can manage, they’re also really expensive, don’t know if that would be a good ROI. A TE that’s more of a threat in the passing game would be nice. Safety is a must. Line backer we probably need an SEC starter level player. Probably need one or two dbs?

He’s one of the most respected NFL draft evaluators, had Drake Maye and Jordan Love as QB1s in their respective class when it wasn’t the norm, says he would rate Arch a “purple chip” prospect, which in his system is the highest grade available. Says people from the outside aren’t really watching the games since right now he’s the sole engine of the Texas offense. Just thought I’d share this since it’s sparked quite a discussion on twitter… I’d also like to point out the number of comments in the yahoo post vs the clips Nate posted where he explains why he rates Arch so highly.

That is not what I’m saying. I’m saying he could generate a lot more with more fundamentally sound mechanics. My post was more to highlight the fact that he’s throwing the ball so well despite the flaws in his mechanics. That’s not a knock on arch at all lmao -
UCLA right?

Not like Arch has bad mechanics but man I think he could generate a lot more power by really torquing his lower body, a lot of his throws seem like he's throwing with just his arm and not really letting his lower body do most of the work. Right now he's a pretty linear thrower, look at the leg whip when he's throwing. If I was in his camp that would be number one the list in things to work on in the off season, he could gain a lot more velocity, accuracy and overall strain his arms less. Right now it looks like it hurts to throw it and he's still been very very impressive. All the other things that you can't teach a QB he has it. -

OL to keep an eye on? (Portal)

He's one of the best guards in the nation. He's looking to go to a bigger school to get drafted high next year. That's not a red flag that's a kid who wants generational wealth. Sounds like good motivation to me. -
The talk around Sark has picked up a lot. You follow that with numerous performances where multiple parts of the team don't look as engaged or invested in the game... Doesn't look good imo. That doesn't mean he's leaving but something is going on. This team does not look like a team that is 100% invested. Whether it's the kids not being invested due to the NIL or something else, I think all of it falls on the coaches. Also didn't like Sark's answers one bit in yesterday's press conference. Talking about the problem with penalties being that "They get called for penalties" and brushing off not meeting expectations doesn't sound good to me. It sounds like he's got other things going through his mind rather than correcting all the glaring issues of the team. Even last week he was asked how did they fix the problem in the secondary and his response was "We fixed them". Every question about how the coaches are handling/fixing the team irritates him, like he doesn't want to be questioned at all. Put a decent product on the field and you're not going to be questioned.

Arch Manning's Development, Layering the football
diegozanna20 replied to diegozanna20's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I don't really agree with the talk about his throwing motion or how that could be a factor in him throwing with touch. A lot of the times Arch is throwing in a dirty pocket where he feels he needs to change his arm slot a bit. I think his throwing motion is fine since he can make all the throws and he gets the ball out really quickly. I'm not an expert so I can't tell you why he does show some more inaccuracy in those type of throws but I don't think it's the throwing motion. -

Yeah it could be that the misses on deep balls or the ones where he is throwing with touch are due to having to build a strong rapport with some of the receivers. He's pretty accurate when throwing to DMO or Livingstone no? -
Arch Manning's Development, Layering the football

Oh yeah absolutely... I think some people might take what I said or what the film guy said as just writing Arch off or something when that's quite the opposite: Arch is such a smart and talented football player that you can criticise areas in which he needs to improve cause you know he can improve in those areas. It may be nitpicking but that's kind of what you do when you have a guy that next year could be the number 1 overall pick. He's huge, he can run, he can scramble and throw on the run, he's very very tough and durable, he's smart, he's got a strong arm while having elite arm talent... It's not a knock on him to say that he could improve in throwing with touch. Every player has flaws, I think right now that's one of them. He has all the talent to get better at it. -
Arch Manning's Development, Layering the football
diegozanna20 replied to diegozanna20's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Really interesting. I still think it's an area where he's gotta mature mechanically in the off season, but I do think you're right in saying that confidence is a big factor in this. -
After the last few weeks there's zero doubts in my mind that we're seeing Arch play his best football and we're seeing him progress more and more every week. He's tough as nails, he has zero fear of standing in a dirty pocket and taking a hit, he can evade rushers, he can get out of the pocket and he's finally being accurate with the football. PFF gave him a 82 adjusted completion percentage. He threw the ball more than 40 times. That's elite level of accuracy. What's even more encouraging is that it seems to me that he's gotten over the mental hurdle of playing in a big setting or being afraid to make mistakes. He's also processing a lot quicker and you can tell he's a really smart football player. The last 4 games the 2 ints that he threw were one on a bobbled football by Livingstone and the other on a inaccurate ball to Moore (which probably should've been PI), none of these being due to stupid decisions by him. Having said this the film guy brought up an intersting point about his development: Arch really struggles to layer the football. He said that he makes about 12 throws every saturday that are just elite NFL throws where he has either a really tight window to throw into, or he's standing in a dirty pocket with pressure in his face, or he's throwing on the run. But he's errant when throwing to Mosley, for example, running a deep over. He says that if Arch isn't putting everything he can into the throw he doesn't know where the football is going. He the concluded that he's still a guy that he would draft to then try to develop that part of his game. I find myself agreeing with him cause I think that's a big part of the offense that is missing. We struggle to have explosives because Arch isn't accurate on deep overs or routes that are "running away from him", where he just has to put a little air under the ball and let receivers create in space. The only other way we can create explosives in the passing game is with the screen game or deep post routes/lower percentage throws. What do you guys think about it? Do you think it can be fixed this offseason? Do you think it's something that's gonna take longer and is deep rooted into his mechanics?

To me it looked like Sark did try to make changes this off season Unfortunately they all backfired. I don't think it's talked about enough how if Arch continues to ascend and Sark's "lets Arch down" it could be a heavy blow to his resume. He could become the coach that had a Manning who's playing to his potential and screwed it up, even with a every resource he could want. This could get real ugly for Sark really quickly.
-
Team looked checked out for most of the game, especially after the onside kick. Even the few big plays weren't really celebrated. How does this team look when they have a very slim chance of even making the playoffs? I think most people aren't gonna like the answer. Biggest two weeks in Sark's coaching career imo. This could get ugly quickly. Shame to see this right when Arch seems to have gotten over the mental hurdle, though he played at a high level saturday, just not enough help around him.
