  1. I'm just a bit out over my skis here by saying this, but...as a UT grad I've always thought Ted Cruz was a lot closer to A&M (Administration, alumni, fan base, etc.) than he has been to UT. I have never considered Ted's relationship with Tech, but now I would say that he's clearly put himself in the Cody Campbell camp and is trying to use the power of the federal law to (potentially) favor Tech over A&M and UT. In so doing, it makes me wonder how much he's damaging his "friendship" with A&M... and it surprises me that he's willing to favor one university in Texas over the two other more prominent universities in the State of Texas. Many of my OTF friends know that before I retired in 2008 I worked for decades in Business -Government relations in several state capitols and in Washington DC. I'm admittedly not up to date, having been retired for several years. However, some basic things don't change much in the process of politics. My opinion is that (particularly in DC on federal legislation) the "Base Case" in the US Congress is to want to appear to be protecting the Sacramento States and U Conns from the tyranny of the BiG and SEC Conference schools. They want to preserve the Appalachian State's ability to upset Michigan, etc., however rare those upset victories are. The Congress also likely wants to be responsive to the many small colleges and universities engaging in intercollegiate sports. Also it's my opinion that they would likely be of the view that the large universities will be able to do "just fine" in any new legal and regulatory structure created to be sure the small schools and conferences can thrive if they are protected from the big schools' financial and other inherent advantages. I'm not trying to pick a fight with any of my OTF friends here... I can be pursuaded I am wrong. I just couldn't hold my keyboard this morning. Hook 'Em!
  2. Practically speaking, Cody Campbell is the Jerrah Jones of Texas Tech University. Unfortunately.
  3. I'm always curious about what the TAX burden is on the financial offer from Northwestern (State of Illinois, City of Chicago and Federal combined) compared to the smaller financial offer from the University of Texas (No state income tax and total Federal tax burden). Surely the player's agent works up the tax figures for presentation to the player. I guess Texas wasn't his "Dream School" after all. Hook 'Em!
  4. I thought Tech had a deal with Bud Light...
  5. A new use for NIL $ in the States where the NIL compensation extends down to high school! Hook 'Em!
  6. Just keep on a'diggin' Kirb! Of course, there is a "perfect answer," and that is for Tech to announce it will not play Sorsby this season but will continue to support his recovery.
  7. The Big XII, under the leadership of the great Yormark, should reply "Bring It." By so doing, they would force the Tech administration to even more prominently establish their position standing alone against the traditional ethics and practices of college sports. Disgraceful.
  8. Yes... to the extent Tech had a smidgen of a soul, the president, Athletic Director and Head Coach are without a character. But they ARE "characters."
  9. Law enforcement can just TRY to keep organized crime, Mexican and South American gangs, etc., from bribing/paying players to fix/throw the outcome of games... Under this ridiculous injunction ruling, college athletes who want to "supplement" their NIL and revenue sharing income will have ample opportunities to do that very thing. Geez.
  10. DOMINO?!!! Not yet... Hook 'Em! Bobby!
  11. In 1984 I saw Rodney Dangerfield live in concert in Washington DC. I was 31 years old back then and had been a fan since I was a little kid watching him on the Ed Sullivan show and with Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show when my Dad let me stay up late with him. The venue was a theatre with a 3500 capacity and the place was SRO. Rodney put on a great show. Having only seen him on TV, I had never heard his "Adult" material and it was hilarious. Just enough off-color to be truly funny but not approaching really "Blue" or obscene. My favorite line was Rodney said when he was a kid, at Halloween his Mother made him stand in the living room window with a candle in his mouth -- No Respect! RIP Rodney Dangerfield. Hook 'Em Gerry!
  12. So Kessler argued that Sorsby should be allowed to play college football because he couldn't help himself...he had ( or has) an addiction. Uh, ok... Now that he got inpatient counseling for a month, he's cured. So, he won't wager going forward because his addiction problem has been solved. Gotta admit... Kessler is living up to his reputation as a good attorney. This might explain the drastic change in the prediction market... people just need a plausible reason to let Sorsby off the hook and his attorney said he was in the grip of the gambling addiction disease. Geez.
  13. Fwiw, my late Mother couldn't stand to listen to Beth Mowins. Mom was 92 when she died in 2021 and was Old School of the WWII generation. She would complain about "women announcers" and if Mowins was on the call of any Longhorns sporting event, Mom turned the audio off. My parents met in the late 1940s because my Dad was playing Double A minor league baseball and Mom was an avid amateur softball player. I always knew they were a bit disappointed that my baseball skills were limited but I gave it a go all the way through American Legion level after high school. I suppose the "women announcers" thing may be partly generational because I have always thought Beth is a good play by play person behind the microphone. Your post about Beth's voice was a nice reminder of how my mother would have agreed with you! Thanks and Hook 'Em! RIP Mom and Dad... both loved the Longhorns.
  14. Thanks to Bobby for his reporting and analysis of the situation at Tortilla University. IF they had set about making Tech the power team of the Yormark Conference... and been successful (and maybe a little bit more ethical), THEN they might have been considered worthy of a spot in an expanded BIG or SEC Conference. But NOOooo (John Belushi reference), they had to act like classless Nouveau Riche. Now their chances of being considered for a spot in an expanded Power Conference are in shambles. What a shame... NOT!
