  1. I was at the Texas vs $MU game in Dallas the first year the "Mustangs" were allowed to play football after receiving the Death Penalty from the NCAA for illegally paying their players. The small crowd was 90pc Longhorns fans and the Ponies looked like a 4A high school team. One of the "Mustangs'" DLs had been getting abused by Texas' Stan Thomas as the Horns ran repeatedly behind Thomas' pancakes. The $MU DL had reached his limit and let go with a roundhouse uppercut that just about ruined Stan's manhood. Stan buckled to the turf as the penalty flag fell beside him. Several Texas players converged on the $MU player and the official's effort to get in the middle was useless. When the artificial turf dust settled, Stan was helped off the field. He returned later in the game for the Longhorns. I've followed CFB since 1968. That game in Dallas remains the most mismatched spectacle I've ever seen. $MU should not have tried to play football again until they could recruit and assemble a representative team. That game demonstrated what a Top 10 team looks like physically on the same field as a bunch of high school sized players. Hook 'Em! and I have never cared for SMU since their scandal -ridden days.
  2. IMO this is especially true when competing schools are doing the "better to ask for forgiveness later than to ask for permission now" routine. The "forgiveness" approach will likely work for them, Unless... the new House -NCAA- authorized entity comes out of the gate handing out harsh penalties. I hope it does. Tech and a few others are about to find out how Texas fans have felt for years when the Red Raiders become every opponent's Super Bowl.
  3. Agree. Texas did well under the "Wild West," and unlikely to do as well under regulations because UT will be in the front row of "Boy Scout Universities."
  4. So Tech is going to bust the cap/break the rules and see if the rules are enforced and they get busted. Yikes. Livin' On the Edge.
  5. Classless behavior. And by a Legacy! Compare it to almost every single interview that Texas recruits have done with OTF. The Longhorns recruits on OTF have made me proud to be a Texas alum and fan of the team. Says a lot about Sark's "Culture" he emphasizes so much.
  6. I agree. I really enjoy the "Watch With Us," except each person is a couple of seconds ahead or behind the TV broadcast. A second or so is ok, but sometimes it seems like almost three seconds away from being in synch. Understandable delay/preview, but the "Homer" aspect is so much fun I just put up with the lack of being synched. Wish August 30th was tomorrow!!!
  7. Growing up in a household likely full of burnt orange and a framed jersey with Daddy's and His last name on it... and surely Daddy watched Longhorns games on TV and pulled for Texas... I just know if it were me doing that, my (late) father would have made me pick up the cap and apologize to him and the coaches who recruited me for such classless behavior. This shows me that Texas potentially dodged a character bullet. Too bad he can't go back in time and play for Miami circa 1990-1991. I have to believe the ND staff were embarrassed. If this had been at A&M or OU, I "might" have understood it. But, it's an honor to represent Notre Dame and his actions are out of line with the character of the Irish. It's just a shame because his Daddy was a credit to the Longhorns. He must be embarrassed.
  8. I called FONG to confirm rumors. His secretary said he was in a meeting in Collie Station this afternoon and asked not to be bothered. Hook 'Em!
  9. I agree. When you really think about it, the whole thing is kinda sad. Especially from the HC. Their entire schtick is about another team. I'm glad Texas "embraces the hate." Hook 'Em! (Upwards of course)
  10. Unlike recruiting in the Lost Decade at Texas... now potential recruits must consider the depth the Longhorns have. This is especially true at certain positions. So nowadays a young man has less of a "guarantee" of early playing time as a Freshman. In addition, in this era of NIL and the Portal, a recruit is choosing a school and team in a more complicated market/environment than in the past. I don't enjoy seeing players go elsewhere when Texas is recruiting them, but a few years ago I got very tired of seeing the Longhorns coaches taking lower rated players because they didn't even try to go after the top recruits. Hook 'Em!
  11. I remember when $MU came into DKR for an afternoon game and brought their "Payroll" team when they were a Top 10 team for the first time in generations. DKR still had the track around the football field. Late in the game the Longhorns' Mr. Lott Sr. was playing CB and the Ponies decided threw to his side from about the Texas 15-yd line at the North end of the field. Lott broke up consecutive pass plays near the pylon. After the second PBU he bent over and threw up on the track surface. Lott's big plays on D were one of the keys to the Texas victory that day. If his son doesn't want to be known as a Legacy player I can respect that. My daughter was not a student athlete, but I must tell you I was really happy when she told me she was going to the Forty Acres and our family enjoyed her time as a student at UT.
  12. Agree with you... Makes me wonder if USC at Illinois is a Big Noon game on Fox. Another thought... remember when Texas -Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl Stadium was an automatic standout game every CFB season? Yeah, me too. Hook 'Em!
  13. The Fat Lady isn't warming up yet... BUT when Texas doesn't get a recruit, I always remind myself that I only want players who want to be on my team at my university... for whatever reason. If a recruit commits elsewhere it shows me that they didn't want to be a Longhorn.
