  1. I hit 72 last month. Follow the late Satchel Page's advice and never look back! Hook 'Em!
  2. I just saw this story on the ESPN YouTube page and I stopped, double clutched, and went back and read it carefully. Gerry has been mentioning this subject on Coffee and Football... but just in a "what if" sorta way. Well, it didn't take long! I guess the NBA was a bit more challenging than was expected...so now this player thinks he needs to repeat the third grade...or whatever. As college sports eligibility becomes more of a case by case matter, it's going to be interesting to see how long it goes until the NCAA comes up with some rules...or if eligibility becomes a Case Law matter for the Courts to decide. Geez.
  3. Yeah, put it on T-shirts and Bumper Stickers, Ags... because after all, it's a "Tradition" isn't it?! (It's a "Tradition" if any Aggy or "Former Student" says it is!) Hook 'Em!
  4. The World is upside-down! Best wishes to Oz... I've always wanted to visit. The Internet is as close as I will ever get. About 20 years ago I lived in Dallas and my neighbor across the street was from Sydney. He ended up selling Mercedes Benz automobiles in Texas...a great guy who was very " Aussie." Hook 'Em!
  5. Research/Google/YouTube the song "Nobody Ever Died for Dear Old Rutgers," sung by the late Phil Silvers. The lyrics are about Rutgers football vs Princeton. Rutgers... Silvers sings he "Owes a Debt" to Dear Old Rutgers. The song takes you back to what college football was in the early 1950s. Hook 'Em!
  6. Indiana thinks more highly of Hoover than Parker Livingstone did! Time will tell, but the temptation of playing in Norman was just too much for the defending National Championship team to overcome in recruiting Portal WRs like Livingstone!
  7. My thoughts regarding the South End Zone... indeed, it can appear that there are empty seats there, but as I understand, the revenue from the End Zone is counted and in CDC's lockbox. Second thought... when the South End Zone was re-done, I immediately understood that the Burnt Orange addition was an artsy stylized Longhorn Head. But I've been surprised at how many of my friends and family have asked me "What is that 'thang' in the End Zone?" It's just not obvious to folks. Perhaps they don't see Bevo's head everywhere like I do. Final thought... I'm more than ready for the field at DKR to return to the grass surface. My reason is that I really don't like the brown-ish paint color on the current artificial turf. People complained that the previous artificial turf field color was Orange, but too bright. So the new turf came in and they over-corrected and it's closer to Brown than Burnt Orange... to my eye. I'm hoping the end zones and Midfield will be closer to Official Orange. This is what my late grandfather said was "Pickin' the fly stuff outta the pepper." Hook 'Em!
  8. I really enjoyed the Watch With Us. So much so that I didn't listen to the TV color and play by play guys. Realizing that you can't synch up with the TV feed, some games I felt as much as 5-7 seconds ahead of the OTF guys but I enjoyed the OTF guys so much that it didn't really matter very much. Thanks and Hook 'Em!
  9. I really enjoyed the interview with Ffrench. Too bad he interviewed better than he played WR.
  10. I quit the Dallas Cowboys after they were a no-show at home vs the Packers and their rookie QB. And I had been a Cowboys fan since childhood. I was turned off by the NFL's venture into Wokeness and I haven't watched Pro football since I stopped caring about the Cowboys. I tried to watch but discovered I no longer cared. I haven't watched an NBA game in many years after following the League since I was a youngster. Same for MLB... last game I recall watching was when the Texas Rangers were one strike away from winning the World Series. So CFB and the Longhorns have been my refuge. I still watch Nowhere State play Whattsamotta U on TV. Some of the things about the new landscape of CFB bother me but so far I am still caring. I'm retired now and I realize I'm no longer in the target audience for Pro sports but as College sports moves more and more into the professional mode I will hang in as long as I still enjoy the College games and I'm a Texas Ex, so I will always love the Longhorns. Hook 'Em!
  11. Looks suspiciously like Southlake Russia! Out here in SW Ft Worth about 40 mi away, we got a dusting on the shores of Benbrook Lake... Oh Well, Hook 'Em!
  12. OK, well you are now! That's good enough and close enough for me!!! That was a great Moment! Hook 'Em! And best wishes to you from frigid DFW!
  13. Or maybe Vonlane.... PS, I remember a Longhorns player making a great fumble recovery in a big game at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. I was sitting by former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk on a VIP (not me!) bus back to Downtown after the game. Ron Kirk ( a UT Law grad I think) said it was "perfect that a player named 'Bubba' won the game for Texas!" Hook 'Em!
  14. The current CFB season format just doesn't feel like it's the best college football could offer. Mainly the Championship game happens too late after a long season and the conference championship games seem to only be important to the teams that need to win those games or miss out on the playoffs. Given the current "leadership" of CFB and the demands of the BIG Ten, I'm not optimistic that we'll see significant changes in the near term future.
  15. RIP James Street. On the national TV broadcast of the game at #2 Arkansas on ABC, the late Chris Schenkel called him "Jimmy Street," and made him sound like a junior high kid. He was an outstanding Senior QB and Pitcher for the University of Texas. Some media types called him James "Slick" Street because of his ball handling skills as UT's Wishbone QB and his super confident demeanor. Street played an outstanding game in Fayetteville in December, 1969, leading the #1 Longhorns to the National Championship over the Razorbacks in what was called "The Big Shootout." I was a high school freshman on a losing football team and although I was already a Longhorns fan, after watching that game on TV with my late father, I told him I wanted to go to Texas. Knowing I couldn't play college football at the Southwest Conference level, I just wanted to sit in the Student Section at Memorial Stadium and cheer for Texas and players like James Street. Hook 'Em OTF!
