  1. Here’s the release from Texas: AUSTIN, Texas – For the 24th time in program history, The University of Texas' softball program will participate in the NCAA Division I Softball Championship as the Longhorns were not only selected as one of the 16 regional host programs but also as the tournament's number one overall seed for the first time in the program's history. The number one ranking is the highest by a Texas softball program since earning the third seed for the 2011 tournament. Sunday's honor also marked the first time the program has earned a national seed — one through 16 — in back-to-back seasons since 2012 and 2013. The 2013 campaign capped a four-year stretch that saw the Longhorns be seeded 7 (2010), 3 (2011), 6 (2012) and 4 (2013). Texas, which is 23-2 at home to this point of the 2024 season, will open the 2024 NCAA Austin Regional on Friday, May 17 when the Longhorns take on the Siena Saints, which won their first-ever MAAC Championship by winning four games in four days as the tournament's sixth seed, at 3 p.m. CT on the Longhorn Network. Additionally in the bracket, St. Francis (Pa.) will travel back to Red & Charline McCombs Field for the first time since the 2021 NCAA Austin Regional as the Red Flash, which have qualified for the NCAA Division I Softball Championship in six of the last seven seasons, knocked off Central Connecticut, 12-0, to win the Northeast Conference Championship and earn the regional's third seed. The Red Flash will take on Northwestern, the second seed in the regional, at 5:30 p.m. CT Friday, May 17, when the game will be streamed on ESPN+. The Wildcats, guided by three-time Big Ten Coach of the Year Kate Drohan, won their third consecutive Big Ten regular season championship after going 19-3 in conference play and winning all eight conference series for the second season in a row. This weekend will mark the first time Northwestern have traveled to Austin for postseason play since the 2012 season, when the Longhorns reeled off four consecutive elimination victories to win the regional. The winner of the Austin Regional will advance to face the winner of the College Station Regional, which is hosted by Texas A&M and also features Texas State, for a three-game series that begins on Friday, May 24. NCAA Austin Regional Schedule Friday, May 17 Game 1 – No. 4 Siena (33-20) vs. No. 1 Texas (47-7), 3 PM – Longhorn Network Game 2 – No. 3 St. Francis (40-12) vs. No. 2 Northwestern (33-11), 5:30 PM – ESPN+ Saturday, May 18 Game 3 – Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 1, 12 PM – TBD Game 4 – Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, 2:30 PM – TBD Game 5 – Winner Game 4 vs. Loser Game 3, 5 PM – TBD Sunday, May 19 Game 6 – Winner Game 5 vs. Winner Game 3, TBD – TBD Game 7 (if necessary) – Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 6, TBD – TBD

  3. From the AAS: Texas will open the tournament at McCombs Field Friday at 4 p.m. against Siena. St. Francis (Penn.) and Northwestern will also compete in the Austin regional, with the top team advancing to the NCAA Super Regional. The Longhorns will host the first two weekends of the NCAA Tournament pending an upset loss. 4. Yeah she (Maxwell) did. She did a great job of getting ahead in the count and she painted the outside corner nearly all night. It gave Texas fits.
  5. They need some offense and quickly. Pitching has to be shored up as well.
  6. 2nd game just started. I’ll find out about Tulo.
  7. Skenes had his MLB debut for the Pirates today and I thought he looked great. He ended up allowing three runs on six hits (one homer) and two walks with seven strikeouts over four-plus innings, throwing 84 pitches. Such a wide variety of pitches and good control on them. Perfect example: From MLB.com: Skenes started off his big league career in style, striking out each of the first two hitters he faced -- Mike Tauchman on a 100.9 mph four-seam fastball and Seiya Suzuki on an 84.2 mph slider. After walking Cody Bellinger, he retired Christopher Morel on a flyout to deep center to finish off a scoreless first inning. Skenes touched 100 mph nine times in the first inning, topping out at 101.9 mph -- the fastest pitch by a Pirates starting pitcher in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).
  8. Join @Bobby Burton & @Gerry Hamilton for Coffee and Football beginning at 8 AM. Maybe @CJ Vogel too? I’m not sure. But what I am sure of, is that they’ll be taking your questions and talking Texas while I fly back to the greatest state in the Union.

  10. I checked on this for you but didn’t get much of an answer. “Technically he can come back” is what I was told, but the person told me they weren’t for sure what the actual diagnosis was. When I asked more about returning “It (the injury) may affect his draft status. It just depends on what his options are.”
