Miami (FL), USC and Oklahoma State joined the poll for the first time this season, claiming the Nos. 10, 12 and 16 spots, respectively. Miami's appearance in the poll is the first since Sept. 11, 2022 and their highest ranking since taking the No. 8 spot on Aug. 20, 2018. The SEC leads all conferences with seven teams, followed by the Big Ten with five, Big 12 with two and the ACC and FBS Independents with one each. The pollsters consist of FWAA writers and College Football Hall of Famers who were selected to create a balanced-geographical perspective.
