  1. I have a hard time with QBs from the Riley system. There are just so many first read throws, that it’s really hard to figure out how well they actually read the field. I always found it odd that people put a discount on Leach QBs, but never on Riley QBs.
  2. They are DTs. There are not a lot of DTs that get a bunch of sacks. Vita Vea is one of the best DTs in the NFL. His season high for sacks at Washington was 5. Chris Jones never had more than 3 sacks at Mississippi State. Murphy’s 5 sacks from the nose is really good. Texas got 11 sacks from interior rushers last year and 11 from the edges. That is with the interior guys getting more double teams
  3. It’s odd. What’s he going to do at Ohio State to really help himself? Ryan Day has had great offenses at Ohio State. It’s not like Chip is going to a defensive HC and will credit for getting them over the top, like Sark, Kiffen, or Monken (Georgia).
  4. I would add OL.. OSU has struggle there the last few years and bringing in the Chuck Knoblach of centers from Bama to help fix it is questionable
  5. Most teams are Nickel base . It’s rare to see 3 traditional off ball LBs these days. Texas will run some vs run heavy teams. That’s more of a package now
  6. The Edges will just have to step up. Last year Texas had 2 of the best DTs in the nation and a top 5 Duo in Texas history. It was really easy for Edges last year, so it will be hard to take pressure off. I think people are underestimating the impact Murphy and Sweat had on the rest of the defense. Their impact was huge on the Edges, LBs, and Safeties.
  7. I am not sure LB injury rate is significantly higher than other positions. RB has significantly higher success rate (41%), 2nd highest on the offense (TE is 1). Off-ball LB is more similar to QBs, than RBs. They have to make a ton of reads and offenses are always putting them in conflict. The more mental requirements a position has, the harder it is to project (you can add physical development to that also). That aligns very well with the bottom of the list, outside of WR which is wildly over-rated by services (you can probably blame the rise of 7 on 7 and camps for that). 1. DE - 60% 2. Athlete- 54% 3. TE- 54% 4. OT - 53% 5. CB - 46% 6. RB- 41% 7. QB - 40% 8. IOL- 40% 9. Safety- 39% 10- DT- 39% 11- LB - 33 12- WR - 30%
  8. I saw 10 year data on the top 100 recruits and the percentage of that made the NFL by the Athletic.. ILB had the 2nd lowest percentage of NFL players at 33%, only behind WR which is far and away the most over-valued position by recruiting services..
  9. I think LB is probably the 2nd biggest worry for me. It has limited proven depth. Their is talent there, but it needs to take a big step. I also believe ILB is on of the hardest positions to evaluate and project in football. Most of these kids dont play traditional off-ball roles in HS. They are just too good of athletes in HS to play that role. They are playing some offense, blitzing heavily, or coming off the edge. Maalik Jefferson is the perfect example of that. Still drafted off his athletic potential, but never quite developed into a well rounded off-call LB.
  10. I think the ceiling for the OL is Banks, Campbell, Majors, Neto, and Cam Williams. That would be the most "talented" group. I am hoping Neto and Cam make that jump this year. The floor is Banks, Campbell, Majors, Hutson, and Conner, which should still be solid.
  11. Here is the PFF grades on the DTs from Last year: overall rDef Prsh Sweat 91.7 92.0 85.3 Murphy 91.1 80.5 91.5 Collins 80.0 71.5 80.8 Trill Carter 67.1 65.0 63.1 BRoughton 67.0 69.6 63.3 Bledsoe 62.5 64.0 63.4 other guys didnt have enough snaps to make it worth sharing. Bit surprising that Broughton and Bledsoe werent better pass rushers, given their athleticism Michigan DTs that people are circling like Vultures overall rDef Prsh Graham 90.2 87.2 86.4 Grant 79.9 72.0 78.6
  12. Black at 15 is going to raise some eye brows. Do you have here, because you have doubts he sticks at CB? (Long speed?)
  13. That is a good thing. I would be happy, if Texas took 4 Cbs and 1 safety in every class.
  14. Where does Nickel fall into this ranking? Have to figure 2 of the 3 Corners stick there and the 3rd goes to Nickel, which would probably up your grade at Safety. Just a way too early guess, but that Safety class could be Black (NB), Filsame, and Rubell. Went with Black to NB, based on his size/athleticism profile. This is also why I would love Texas to always take more CBs, than Safeties in a recruiting class
  15. Logo should just be a picture of Bobby with that big hat on. My plan B would be Gerry with a Cowboy hat on riding Lawnmower 2.0 (Manscape)
  16. I think I would move January up. Mostly based on opportunity. It a good thing for 2024, but I lot of these guys have a tough road to getting on the field
  17. I like this. My biggest complaint about recruiting rankings is it is just a grade on overall talent. In theory you could have 20 5 star QBs, RBs, and WRs and have the #1 class, despite having nobody to block or tackle. Would love to see the Team rankings to start factoring in the distribution of talent. Even better would be an additional 3/4 year recruiting rank with position group grades.
  18. Best game day environment I have been to in the SEC is the Grove. That is one you have to hit
  19. I hope not. Collins at the 1 tech, would be a waste of his talent. Broughton has improved, but still struggles with pad level at times. I can not imagine him playing the 1 tech.
  20. He is really good. I just think you have to wait. I call it the Rollie Massimino (SP?) syndrome. There are some coaches that are just great ball coaches, but struggle at higher profile jobs when their focus becomes more CEO than ball coach. They are great at getting the most out of lesser rosters, but struggle in the spot lights
  21. You have to put Day on the list, but the rumblings around Columbus are real. Just a weird time in Football. Not a lot of proven commodities, that have done it for 5+ years at the same school. You can see the trends on Sark, Lane, and Norvell, but you would really like to see more than 1 or 2 seasons before you put them on a list like this. The rules of the game have changed dramatically in the last few years. It is hard to know who is going to be the select few that can consistently navigate this new world with NIL and unlimited transfers.
  22. Thought about Kelly, but I am not sure about where that is going. Good coach, but he is just an odd fit at LSU. Day is tough for me. OSU is no better today, then the day he took over. They went all in for this year, if Day doesnt win, I could see that unwinding in the near future. Only one on the list that am confident will be there next year is Smart. I do think Lane is doesnt get enough credit for the job he has done at Ole Miss.
  23. This list lost some appeal lately.. Kirby is easy.. Hate to say it, but Lane is on there I guess Day, but I hate that more than Lane Norvell and Sark?
  24. I always have a hard time answering this question. Best coach or best CEO of a blue blood team.
  25. I agree about this. I do think people are over-valuing the RB room currently. Baxter and Blue are not finished products. I think you say that about the entire RB room. The potential is there, but I question the consistency.
