  1. Murphy and Sweat will come down to measurements. Small things like wingspan for Murphy. Weight and interviews for Sweat. I think there is a little bit of "does he love football" that is hurting Sweat.
  2. There is no stopping this and the courts have been pretty clear about that. Just have to accept that this is what CFB and recruiting will look like going forward. The bag game has a 200 year+ history going back to coaches like Walter Camp. We have now entered the legalization of the bag game with 0 pretense.
  3. That is good news. The key for Niblack will be how he performs without the ball. He needs to be an adequate blocker to stay on the field.
  4. Sweat at 90 is just absurd.
  5. I not sure the skill positions have been upgraded. You could argue they have been downgraded (slightly). If the Texas offense becomes elite this year, it will be the growth of Quinn and the OL.
  6. Wondering if @Gerry Hamilton, @Bobby Burton, or someone else has good handle of the tiers of NIL among Universities. I believe Texas is in that top tier. I am just wondering who has the backing and organization to be competitive long term in this new world. Who is in that first 5-10 and who is behind? That doesn’t preclude a school from going out and paying above market for a singular class or a 5 star. We saw that in the old bag game, though I not sure there is any way to fight that now (hi, Ole Miss).
  7. Buck is Edge. Jack is Edge, Buck isnt a Jack. Hope that clears it up
  8. It was the "now" that I said was not a good sign. I take that as similar to coming home and seeing your wife in a bad mood and saying "what did the boy do now?". Vasek seems to be starting out on the JWhit plan, which is just tough on any player, and he hasnt even stepped on the field yet.
  9. Not talked about much, but I wonder what the staff will do at Edge. Burke has been the Buck, but according PFF, he was the best Edge vs the Run. He was behind Sorrell on Pressure rate (kind of surprising). They have 3 option known options to mess around with and SImmons as the wild card. Could see more Burke and Sorrell vs balanced teams. Perhaps a pass rushing package of Simmons and Moore. I think the baseline at EDGE will be fine, but finding the right combinations will be imperative to maxing this position out.
  10. I understand that, but the landscape of CFB changes dramatically this year. OU and Texas to the SEC. Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington to the Big 10. There isnt even a Pac 10 going forward. When you are projecting a 16 team playoff for 2024 and beyond, you need to factor that in. It completely changes how things are going to look.
  11. I am commenting, because it should look something like this #1 Michigan (or Wash)- Big 10 #2 Texas (or Bama)- SEC #3 FSU - ACC #4 Arizona - Big 12 Your at -large teams will be Bama, Georgia, Washington, OSU, Oregon and Mizzu. PSU and Ole Miss are out for the likes of Boise State and Miami (OH). The 4 slots for the G5 is going too far and I can not imagine media endorsing that idea.
  12. I understand that, but it is not indicative of how it will look this year and going forward. A snap shot from 1924 would be just as helpful. The top 4 seeds are likely to be the SEC, Big 10, ACC, and Big 12 champions.
  13. I think that is off,, I believe the conference champs get preferential treatment, So moving people to their current spots.. You would have had Arizona/Ok State out of the Big 12. Teams like Bama and Washington would have been at large teams.
  14. I am a huge fan of win or go home games. So I have 0 issues with it. My biggest issue is the top 4 conference champs is the BYE week going to a team that will most likely be outside the top 10.. We are going to see weather become a factor in college football like we have not seen in the past
  15. In the draft it is a good thing. Upside potential is paramount. That makes Worthy's grade pretty strange. I really cant imagine him being an average starter. He either can take the physicality and will be a very good player or he cant and he will be more of a gadget type player with a limited role
  16. I do think his upside might be more tied to his OC, than most players. If he gets an OC like Bill OBrien, then that grade may turn out true. Put him with KC and I can’t buy enough Worthy stock
  17. Does it mean you are old, if your first thought on the new hire was the Honeymooners?
  18. That opinion and Gerry’s make me think that 1 of the freshmen could surprise at RB. If there is a need to pull the 225-230 pound RB for short yardage for a freshmen, then there is probably a legitimate battle to be had at RB. Off the top of my head I would say 55% Baxter is the workhorse next year. 25% Blue. 20% on the field. Would be interested in Bobby’s numbers (He is the founding member of C Clark fan club).
  19. How about this question. RB is one of the easier positions to play early. Are we sure that Gibson or Clark will not be getting the majority of carries in week 8?
  20. it certainly is not a Rojo and Bijan type thing where you had 2 Rbs capable of taking 20 carries. Rojo got limited carries, because Bijan was just that damn good. they sprinkled in Keilan, because he just added that 1 exceptional trait (speed). For a position to be a strength, I think it is fair to set the bar at least 1 high level starter. I dont think Baxter or Blue has proven that yet. Baxter generally went down too easily last year, as a result had a sub 5 ypc mark. Blue had 2or 3 fumbles in 65 carries, which is far too much. We will see how he fairs between the tackles. Even with Brooks in the line up, I thought Texas lacked a RB capable of getting 1-2 yards in short yardage (see redzone issues). I do think a healthy and 1 year older Baxter can be that guy, especially if he shows that burst he displayed in the Houston game. Blue could also take steps. The potential is there in the room, but right now it more of a projection.
  21. I think that is a bit of a double edged sword. Specialized RBs can be very good, but they also can tip off the defense. The main reason I am curbing my grade on the RB room is the lack of a complete RB (proven at least). Will someone step up and be a guy that deserves 18 touches? Someone capable of running inside, outside, and catching the ball.
  22. it was. top 25-40% something like that. There are great players in bad situations and mediocre players in great situations, that have similar production. I am doing a very poor job of illustrating that idea.
  23. I think that is a near certainty. I am of the belief it is the P2 and the rest. The economics of football seem to be assuring that is the direction we are going. I actually like including a G5 team, BSU/OU is one of the most memorable Bowls games ever. Nothing like a big upset to fans. While getting 9 of 12 teams seems reasonable, plenty of people will not like the idea of #14 and #18 getting in over #11 and #12. Both are legitimate arguments. As the playoff payouts go up, it will also become interesting to see how hard the SEC and Big 10 fight to limit the amount of champions included.
  24. I am just pointing out the rankings and the fact that SEC and Big 10 are not going to be happy to lose out on that 6 million pay out per team (that is likely going higher). We can say 9 of 12 is fair, but plenty will also say the 18 is greater than 11 and 12, so it is not fair.
