  1. I think it is pretty much the same now. GM will oversee the scouting department and manage the salary cap (in this case NIL). Keep in mind there is a retention aspect of NIL now. We dont talk much about this, but what do you give a 2nd year DL/OL that has shown promise, but had next to 0 impact on the field? You dont want to lose him, so you have to come up with number that is enough to keep the buzzards from circling. The job is probably more difficult, than the NFL. In the NFL you have set contracts and a set budget, so you have a reasonable sense of what the next year will look like,
  2. In todays CFB you need to recruit a top QB every year, because I believe blue chip QBs portal at a 50-60% rate.
  3. In the NCAA’s defense the NCAa tournament pays their bills. They don’t get paid on bowls or playoffs. Even then the FBI tapes came out and The NCAA realized they could not come down on 70% of the top 10, because that would hurt their bottom line. Another point is the schools themselves. The NCAA is incompetent, but a lot of schools don’t want to be policed. That makes the idea is the SEC and Big 10 splitting off debatable. Not to mention there are different business practices in the BIg 10 (and excluding OSU) compared to the SEC. Close your eyes and imagine Wisconsin and Ole Miss sitting down and trying to agree on proper recruiting standards. To fix the issues you need an independent body that is fully funded. Good luck asking schools to divert money to a legitimate policing organization
  4. pictured you as more of a RIO Speedwagon guy
  5. No accounting for some people's taste
  6. I wonder if Sark takes a broader look at the organization and decides that a GM is an inevitable step. Perhaps it is time to use this misfortune and make larger changes
  7. I saw the Gerry thread yday. You have to watch Bobby, he is shady SOB..
  8. I think the issue is people look at rankings wrong. I think of of them as horse racing odds.. 5 stars have something 55-60% chance to get drafted. 4 stars are in the 25% range. Each additional star almost doubles the odds the of a player reaching the NFL. There are over 1 million kids playing High school football ever year. There will always be kids that develop late or simply get over-looked. 3-5 stars rank only about 800-850 kids. I am going to guess here, but I will bet there are over 100,000 seniors playing football every year. It is just logical to assume in the 99,000+ kids that are below a 3 star there will be NFL players. Its unreasonable to think that the stars are gong to be 100% accurate. The NFL draft is far from 100% and that has the benefit of 4 additional years of development. The rankings are very good in the aggregate, but can be wildly off at the individual level.
  9. I am still waiting to see more out of Blue and Baxter. Both had good moments and some poor ones (both fumbled vs Washington and Blue dropped a TD pass). Blue’s speed will make him a factor in the offense, but I still don’t think either are complete RB at the moment. We will see how much they improve next season, but I don’t think the door is closed at RB
  10. I think the better question is can he break 4.3? If I had to make a line I would say 4.35 https://www.nfl.com/photos/top-11-fastest-40-yard-dash-runs-0ap3000000917865
  11. 1 cut comment was not a negative, more about a style. He just seems to be very decisive. He sees the hole, its one cut, and he is off.
  12. I wonder if Nansen is going to turn out to be a bigger hire, than we think. Arizona was doing some very creative stuff on defense, especially in the bowl game. PK seems like the type of guy that enjoys collaborating on his ideas.
  13. Michigan was much more complex. They did great job containing Washington in the 1st half with limited pressure. I think Penix held the ball a little longer and was not as confident in his reads vs Michigan compared to Texas. I think PK is a solid DC. Not sure he is a star, but definitely a solid DC. I have always wondered how well he and Terry Joseph work together.. That is not a dig on either coach, but sometimes a paring of coaches makes both better and vice versa
  14. That is the issue with a lot of RB highlight videos. Its just a collection of long runs, usually better to skim through some game film if you can find it. I didnt get through it all, but did notice he runs very upright. Though I didnt see a play where he needed to lower his pads. Definitely has speed and a nice 1 cut running style.
  15. Where do you think he sits on the Texas board? Is he a plan B guy or a priority
  16. I am not to bullish on sack numbers growing. I think Texas has solid Edge pieces, but I dont see that explosive edge rusher with great bend. Burke and Sorrell are going to have to become master technicians. Simmons and perhaps Tapp have the athletic upside, but we will have to see when and if the lights turn on there. The other path to more sacks is schematic. Perhaps a better secondary will make PK more comfortable dialing up different pressures. That case you may see the LB/secondary sack numbers grow.. Some how Texas did not get a single sack from the secondary last year, which is amazing
  17. Given the timing issues, I think Michigan players will be forced to be more measured in their portal decisions. There isnt a lot of benefit of hitting the portal now (its too late to participate in spring for most colleges). I am of the opinion that most will likely give the new coach at least Spring Ball and then make a decision.
  18. Babers hit on something that has been stuck in my head for a while. Seems the big craze on defense is multiplicity. More to point varying coverages and disguising them. Michigan did a lot of that this year (stolen from the Ravens, I posted a short clip on this awhile back) and it showed vs Penix. It would be interesting to hear his extended thoughts on this. Does he think Texas is too predictable in their calls and coverages. What changes would he like to see?
  19. interesting breakdown of Quinn in the playoffs
  20. Not sure on that. Really depends on what the S&C coach was asking. "Long term" is a bit vague. There was some rumblings he was looking for 10 years. That is big contract and fan expectations are not tempered by things like value and budgets.
  21. I am going to say very similar to last year with 1 change. He needs 28+ TD passes. Quinn was a high end QB last year from 20 to 20. He needs to take a step in the redzone area.
