Would you say the same for the '23 season when PK's secondary was getting carved up by OU, Washington and (checks notes) Houston??
-
I agree but in that Georgia game once the offense finally got into the endzone, the defense immediately goes out and gives a score back. Then the special teams falls asleep and the defense gives up another score. Complimentary football was anything but that last year.
-
Texas has been sooooo bad on offense, I would hate to call defense the last three seasons. 14-7 at Ohio State. 6-3 at halftime in Dallas. 13-13 at Kentucky going to OT. That’s last year alone. Oh, thE Mississippi State game… we gave a Lebby offense 9 possessions in the first half. Mainly because we had 5 possessions less than 90 seconds. That’s the kind of stuff that made Buddy Ryan go over and smack Kevin Gilbride. Literally, Texas would have been better off taking three knees and punting. It would have shortened the half. Then Georgia… 14-10 and Texas has forced 4 straight three and outs all less than 10 years to start the 3rd and our offense can’t do anything after the D came up big in ten first four Georgia drives after halftime. The good news… Texas should be vastly improved on offense. The defense in turn will play less minutes and be able to take more chances. A year ago or even the season before, you could lose a game taking chances.

Yes, that’s what I am saying, the offense had its chances versus Ohio State. Sure, the defense could have done more. I won’t blame any one player or any one unit for any loss. In the end there are opportunities and plays to be made for anyone, any unit. I also like stats and the relativity of metrics like OFEI/DFEI. Those happen to say the defense has been better ranked than the offense. Any fan who follows closely will have complaints about any OC or DC. My complaint on the 4th and 19 versus Vandy is different than most. Mine is that we rushed 5 and left a LBer short essentially leaving 5 to cover 4 I think it was. Others will not like it because we didn’t run tight man coverage. Suppose those same people were happy with 3rd and 17 versus LSU. Blitz with man behind it.

I’m likely in the minority on this take but these 5-star prima donna WRs coming out of high school may be a terrible NIL investment for the Longhorns so if we miss on both Sales and Royal, Good Riddance!!! Last season we had two 5-star freshman at WR and one committed a small amount down the stretch, the other didn’t do anything and transferred at end of season. Conversely, two of our top three WRs going into this 2026 season are both transfers like well to have a massive and immediate impact. Perhaps WR is one of those positions we simply need to cherry pick from the portal and hit HR with instant impact rather than overspending on potential 5-stars that take 2-3 yrs to develop/contribute. JMHO. Hook em!! 🧡🤘🏼🐂 -
I think of those two Ohio State games, the semi final one we held them to 21, hell 14 if Guilbeau didn't take a poor angle on the screen that went to the house before half. But even then, the D held them to 21 and gave the O a chance to win the game, which they then fumbled it away and gave up a TD. The following year with a lot of replacements, they hold them to 14 points and give the O the whole game to score any points for the win, they can't do anything until late in the game. I understand the arguments against PK, because I have my own gripes against him but for Sark's talk about complimentary football he sure struggles on his own side a lot lol.

Thank you! Another person who watches the games. If Sark’s offense was anywhere near our defense we have a natty. Hopefully this is the year

I was being sarcastic, I always forget that doesn't come across well in text format lol. -
If he didn't want PK, why did he keep him around for so long? Nansen was a DC, he could've changed it up then. Don't get me wrong, I get where you're coming from with your opinion but it just seems like a weird situation. Definitely didn't feel like Sark and PK parted on good terms. But I don't think Flood deserves a pass because he's Sark's guy or whatever. If they underperform again, he's gotta go. Can't set a precedent with PK and keep Flood around (assuming his unit struggles again). You made some good points though - thank you.

I realize Choate's time frame. My bad, I was not as clear as I could have been. But I never said Choate was there in 2024, just that our LB play suffered without Choate. Choate and PK had a history and understanding which allowed them to work together better than PK and Nansen. Yes the offense was the main problem in 2010. Call the 2010 D what you will but.... Yes there was a defensive drop-off from 2009 to 2010 and it was not just the offense. 2.2 yds per rush allowed in 2009 vs 3.5 yds per rush allowed in 2010 3.8 yds per play allowed in 2009 vs 4.6 yds per play allowed in 2009 16.7 ppg allowed (12th in FBS) 2009 vs 23.7 ppg allowed (49th in FBS) 2010. Texas lost 4 2009 defensive starters (36% of starters lost to the NFL). 2010 NFL draft: IDL/Edge/LB Lamaar Houston, DE/Edge/LB Sergio Kindle, Safety Earl Thomas and MLB Rod Muckelroy Texas talent drop-off with 2010 starters and contributors- DT Tyrell Higgins, Edge/LB Dravanti Johnson, MLB Dustin Earnest, Safety Christian Scott. (19 starts and 47 games played). These 4 were not drafted or NFL players. We had better defensive talent in 2009 than 2010.

Reason For DC Switch?

Sark certainly doesn’t have any excuses not to have potent offense this season. I fully expect to see a significant jump in consistency and production. -
We were down two safeties, a 3rd was banged up. Pretty sure a CB was banged up too. Vandy was the #1 OFEI team. They were #56 in DFEI. # 1 FPI offense. #54 FPI defense. Surprise, the #1 scored points against a depleted defense. Disappointing, the offense could not finish 1 drive in the 4th against a middle of the road defense. Since Sarks arrival the offense has struggled to finish. Ohio State, Kentucky, Vandy last year. There have been FGs to tie or take the lead when first downs or TDs finish the game. The opportunity was there versus Vandy. It didn’t happen.

This kid is good...I think he's trolling half the SEC right now...he must be having a blast...remember that no matter WHAT he says, this is STILL gonna go to signing day, lol! I think we should all sit back and watch this senior in high school strut his stuff. This is top shelf marketing. Enjoy the show... -

He is about to turn 17 not 18 I believe. Just imagine all the things he and his family are dealing with. I wish him the best whatever happens, whether he announces anything or not soon. In my opinion it is not about $ , because he will get that period. Starting Aug 1 he can get paid. What does his heart want ? Can live with that whoever he chooses. He is having fun on social media . Why not enjoy ? Has a top notch agent, so it will be handled with class for sure. But would be nice to see LSU fans melt if he reaffirms Texas. -

Imma wait for Bobby and Gerry and Hank Jordan etc to tell me what’s up. -
A couple things: 1) Choate wasn't here in 2024...that was Nansen's first year here. 2) 2010 defense was elite but their performance dropped off because of the complete garbage that was the Texas offense that year constantly sending them back out on the field and giving them nothing.

Flood gets a pass because a) He is Sark's guy b) Sark always wanted him on staff and c) Sark might be the reason Flood didn't have the personnel necessary so he might take the blame for that. Sark always wanted Muschamp and didn't want PK as DC. Why do you think PK was the last defensive hire of Sark's initial staff when its usually the other way around? The struggle of last year plus Muschamp being available is what led to the dismissal.
