Johnny Lam Jones was one of the first Texas players I remember by name from seeing a game on tv, after Earl... I believe he was only like 18 when he won that gold medal too... Also, IIRC, he was Lam, short for Lampasses. There was also Ham, which was short for Hamlin TX, and a 3rd Jones, Royal called Jam, just because it rhymed with/ Lam and Ham, but Lam was the man... 🤘

Some other factoids to consider before I release this tomorrow: Cedric beats Bijan for No. xxx despite appearing on five fewer ballots. Michael Huff beats Casey Hampton by ONE POINT: 226 to 225. Earl Thomas is only five points behind Hampton. The worst rating VY received was No. 4. One person voted Quinn Ewers No. 1. Three people put Earl Campbell in their top 10, despite him playing many years before the start date of this poll.

Thanks for all the private messages on Bill guys, and all of you doing searches. Big loss. I was shown a really nice post/thread on IT by Joe Cook about Bill, but since I don't belong there any longer I didn't see it when it came out back in the early spring. I want to leave this message/prayer: If you know someone hurting, tell them to reach out to their loved ones and friends that love them. Also, reach out to your friends and loved ones more often than not. Tell them you love them and you are always there for them no matter what. -

Love the quote by DKR. I had not read that quote before, so thanks for sharing! -

A couple of good choices, but for me I’ll go with Jones. I remember watching him as a teen! Also, as mentioned, All-SWC, All-American and Olympic gold medalist, that puts him up there! -

Sarkisian says he is starting to hear more and more from Derek Williams in the safety room. Mentioned Jonah Williams as well. Sark says it is a prerequisite for his safeties to speak — and that comes from Muschamp. The practice in DKR had crowd noise cranked all the way up, with emphasis on signals, as well as vocal comms.
