Benefits of being in the SEC vs not
TheContractor12 replied to cdibbs's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I have been saying for past 5+ years , we should never schedule big out of conference matchups. The committee cares about the win loss record more than they do SOS(minus an injured all-starQB, sorry FSU). If we had played Boston College, NCSt, etc (half decent but not top 25 team) we are 5-1 right now and can afford 1 more SEC loss and still be in the playoffs. 10-2 gets us in every single year so why schedule Michigan, Ohio St , ND etc? Yes it’s fun of us fans but I’ll take my fun matchups in the playoffs not at the cost of getting in. And there are plenty of fun conference games. IF, we end up 9-3 and get left out , it’s clear what we need to do. It’s all about getting in the dance, then let’s see what happens. -
Sorry if I missed it but we’re up here for the game this weekend with some buddies. Where are the On Texas Football folks getting together tomorrow to tailgate or watch the earlier games before the Horns? TIA and Hook em!

Miami vs Louisville time Finally some entertaining college games on a Friday night! -
I suspect there are a good many players on our team that would not be there had we stayed in the Big 12. We caught OSU at bad timing on our part with regard to breaking in a new QB and a new O-line. I for one have no interest in seeing UT schedule the likes of a Sam Houston, a Sanford or an Arkansas Pine Bluff.

It’s always pathetic when someone says “it’s all over the interwebs” and swallows it whole. -

I'm sorry. You don't like it when someone else doesn't "quote" you accurately? So you're saying if you were sure, you would name names? You would name names of a young kid who did something not team-friendly years ago and then air it out on the interwebs? Good for you. I wouldn't, even if someone tried to bait it. Again...go ask the mods. You scared to ask the mods? Do you need to be double-dog dared? I have to go mow the grass now. Thanks for the fun, Caden's uncle. -

Where did I say he did it? I have no clue he did or did not. I also have no clue whether anyone did. I was simply saying that unless I was sure I wouldn’t name names. Simple as that. I don’t know how to simplify it more so you can comprehend it better. And “it must be so, it was on the internet” is ultimate conspiracy theorist trash. Try to keep up, sport. -

The Big 12 is a really tough soccer conference, I don't think this is a matter of tougher competition. Considering how poorly they did in the non-conference, against some bad teams and how they have struggled against the bottom of the SEC this year, this is just a bad soccer team. Losing Missimo, Byars and others has hurt but there is never a reason for a team to absolutely fall off a cliff in talent like this one has. -

Some mixed results for the Cross Country teams who competed in by far their most competitive meet of the year. The women finished 12th overall, behind 5 ranked teams but also 6 unranked teams including Arkansas who they beat head to head 2 weeks ago. They did beat #3 Florida. Overall, I think it is hard to know which teams are running their top runners and what the race strategy is for these teams (ie, are some teams focused on getting a good training day in vs running all out to win a meet) The Men had a less competitive field than the women and finished 4th, with 2 ranked teams finishing ahead of them. They beat #22 Arkansas who they lost to head to head 2 weeks ago. SEC Championships in 2 weeks and regionals 2 weeks after that. I don't think we will know what to expect until it happens. -

Do you think the team regressed under AK? or SEC is tougher competition compared to Big 12? or both? or something else? I really thought she was going to progress the program when she was hired. -

Nothing positive to report for Women's Soccer. After the surprise victory over ranked Vanderbilt, the team has gone on a 4 game losing streak and is 15th in the conference. They will miss the conference tournament. The real question is, does Ange Kelly coach this team again next year. CDC wants to compete in each and every sport and this team is by far the worst on campus and has been consistently so for years. The performance this year is the worst soccer season of all time for Texas and one of the worst athletic seasons by any team on campus in a while. -
Genuinely curious...what are everyone's thoughts about the benefits (or lack thereof) of being part of the SEC a couple years in? Looking at the schedules of Texas Tech, Miami, Oregon, and even Ohio St as top 10 teams in other conferences, they have a much clearer path to the playoff than Texas will ever have especially with the SEC moving to 9 games and the consistently high competition in the conference. Does the recruiting advantage, higher revenue share, etc. outweigh the negatives of a much more difficult regular season and path to the playoffs? Does Texas further hurt itself scheduling non conference games like Ohio St? Hard to feel like those games are of any benefit given that playing say, Rice, instead of OSU and getting an easy W would have Texas a current top 10 team 5-1 and still with 1 game margin of error for the CFB playoff. As a fan, I love the big games, but I also like the idea of being in the playoff picture more often.

Baseless? Good Lord, man, it was allllllll over the Longhorn interwebs back then. I guess your username checks out since you don't remember it. Ok...so you've gone from he didn't do it, to wanting to know who it was, to he did do it but no names were mentioned. You are all over the map. Pick a lane man. You can talk-write in circles all you want but it won't change the fact that it happened. It Happened. And get Duolingo or something because your translation skills are as bad as some others you have been demonstrating in the last 30 minutes. -

You’re making baseless claims on Stearns. That’s a pretty good start. Yes, there were rumors that recruits were told by some players not to come. But no names were ever mentioned. My guess is it was probably guys who were in the Herman doghouse for any number of issues. But I’m not going to name anyone I’m not certain they did it. Nor would I name a name and follow it up with “you do your research”. Because that translates into “I don’t have a clue, but so and so seems the type”. - Today

Wow. You not only need to learn how to quote, but you also need to do better reading other's minds. What animosity do I have? None. The only animosity here is being demonstrated by you. I guess it ruined your Caden Sterns fan club membership. I simply wrote facts. How do you know I don't know? You would be wrong. Do your own research. This site is not old enough to go back to that time period. Are you member of other sites? If so, go there. It's there. It's not hidden. Or ask the mods on this site. They know. Not sure what you are communicating with your pontification of sports. Competition has taught me the same lesson (among others) you indicate to have learned. Competition doesn't care about politics. But you continue to be confused about what you are reading. There are no politics in my prior writing. Just facts. -

“Night” is a rather broad term. As another poster mentioned the weather is not supposed to hit until well after the game is over. If you watch weather closely you’ll notice that prediction models almost invariably run early.

Because if you don’t know who was told not to come, you don’t know who did the telling either. You’re just wrapping yourself in some rumor that reinforces your animosity towards Sterns. One thing sports has taught me is politics doesn’t matter on the field. If you play hard and your teammates trust you, it’s all good by me. -

It would imply that it happened...and why would it matter "who?" And my response is to also suggest there is no comprehensive list of "who" it happened to. But it happened. Sorry if that disappoints you. Actually, I'm not sorry. Was just trying to be nice. -
