Asked about this year's recruiting class and how successful it has been. "I think it's worked out really well for us... It's the first class we were on level footing for. We had no chance in 25, playing catch up in 26 and 27 was the first time. Our message to those kids was we are going to be a developmental program and become a consistent winner." Added that this past draft validated their recruiting message.

On what he wants from both Reed and offense, development wise: "Consistency and urgency." Says those two things have been the most important piece of the offseason.

On roster building, Elko explains that they treat HS recruiting as the draft and the portal as free agency.

Elko says that Texas A&M moving to the SEC was important, but doesn't speak on the Horns move (he was asked). "That's what allowed us to grow our brand and recruit at a level, year in and year out, to be successful."

Elko says it's important for the Aggies to be great on the LOS. Notes they had 7 linemen drafted last year.

Elko immediately asked about 5 for 5. "I think 5 for 5 is going to affect different programs, at different levels, differently." Then adds that it should enhance some of the developmental players.

Along those lines, Bohl said: "We're not going to work any more, we're just going to work smarter." Based on the feedback he's gotten from coaches, coaches want more access to working with their players and players want to be coached.

Some really good stuff from Craig Bohl on the offseason format. He said something that I've thought, which is that the traditional offseason model of spring practice and summer conditioning is outdated.

I’m normally with ya on things but nothing is quite gambling. It’s awful and the mi consequences were anemic and pathetic but I still think apples and oranges. Big 10 has always protected mi and osu at all costs. Even to the detriment of the other teams. I’m curious to see how they handle Oregon and others long term.

They want agents registered, they want enforcement, and they want a 5-percent cap.

On the Preserve College Sports Act, Bohl said the AFCA's main mission has been to get agents on a nationwide registry.

Craig Bohl of the AFCA said college coaches aren't demanding a seat at the head of the table when it comes to making decisions that impact the future of the sport, "but we want a seat at the table," he said.

Interesting note that Texas Tech's roster size is 109, according to McGuire. He said Tech has guys who were grandfathered into the roster cap under a Designated Student-Athlete tag, meaning they don't count against the 105 cap. That's part of the House settlement, which prevents schools from cutting players just to get under the roster cap.

McGuire on Tech's quarterback situation: "If Will Hammond never gets hurt, we don't have to go into the portal."

Dykes was also asked what number he thinks a team has to have, financially, to be successful… Says you can be successful without it, but feels like TCU could be 20-25 million behind other teams they’ll face. “Part of the problem is nobody knows… everybody would benefit from transparency.”
