Nolan Cain Leaves Texas, Returns to Texas A&M
CutaneousHorn replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
So what’s the backstory? Is this going to be another one of those things that can’t be disclosed, like the women’s basketball departures? -

Doesn’t seem like Cain does much on the field coaching, so not sure why any players would follow him. Seems like Schloss, Tulo and Weiner play the biggest roles in development -

@Blake Munroe @Jeff Howe @CJ Vogel How much of this roster do you attribute to Nolan Cain? And any chance some of our studs follow him? Great recruiter, but shouldn’t be too hard to replace if all our best guys stay put. Could easily see this team being better next year hiring Marder from Oregon and bringing in Laya, Armstrong and a few others -

You know, you can express concern with a direction without it being an overreaction, right? Not everything is good, nor does everything happen because Texas wants it to. -

The overreaction on this thread is hilarious. Mediocre? Defind? The program with the most conference titles. The program with the 2nd most men's natty's behind swimming and diving. Uh ok -

I get what you’re saying. I know a couple people who are decently close to baseball program people and I’m not kidding you about the financial commitment baseball gets. It’s not as much as you’d think. Combine that with losing the key recruiting guy who built those A&M teams for Schloss, and yeah, I think we may be in for some trouble. I’m not saying we’re going to lose everything, but I am saying that we may lose recruitments we should win (see Bino + Clemson catcher). There was a reason things “didn’t work out” with Bino. -

Okay but nobody seems to be panicking about it and seems like a new hire could be in the works in a few days. I'm sure Schloss was aware of it. I just don't see it as a reason to go into full blown panic mode. Again, saying it's "no secret" but not providing any proof is still blowing smoke. I don't think Schloss would've bothered with the move to Texas if there was no investment into Baseball, which is a big deal at Texas. If you want more investment, you need to fight for it and show it. Sark had to do the same for Football. Now if it does bite us in the ass, I'll happily (or sadly) eat crow on it but right now I'm just not seeing the cause for panic. -

Usually monthly but a few guys are now starting to get basically a signing bonus too. For example on a 200k contract, a player will get 80k upfront and 10k each month. He’ll get the 80k when he enrolls or resigns the next January etc. It’s usually a player by player basis though since all contracts/situations are different. A fair amount of agents push for the signing bonuses so they can get their percentage upfront or 50% of their percentage upfront and the rest in 6 months.

It is frustrating that all these SEC teams are getting players in the portal every day and we’re lagging behind. ATM got pitchers yesterday and today, Arkansas has been getting guys daily , Tennessee just got a big time pitcher today, Florida got another player today, etc.. All of these moves going on and all we’re hearing from the Texas side is 2 visits. Hard not to be frustrated right now.. -

Because the guy did all of the recruiting. That’s why it’s a big deal. You’re basically bringing someone new into the fold who doesn’t have the recruiting connections Cain did. You’re now starting from scratch in the middle of portal season. Now you also have to defend from Cain poaching from us. It’s a big deal. As for funding, it’s no secret that there are other schools with bigger financial commitments to baseball. A&M commits more from an NIL + Rev share base, same with Miss State. We’re top quarter of SEC, but not first. Not saying you need to be at the top (see OU), but we do not have the biggest baseball war chest. -
I’d be down with Laya and RHP Tanner Bradley

I don't understand how losing our associate head coach is cause for such a meltdown? I doubt there's not money going into the program. Schloss doesn't seem like the type of dude that would've made the move if there was no investment in the program. Unless you can provide some actual proof to that, it just seems like blowing smoke. -

So Texas should defund one of the most historic programs in the country because you prefer basketball over baseball? How many national championships has basketball won? You want to turn one of the greatest programs into mediocre status to add to a sport who doesn’t carry the resume baseball does. Might as well go after swimming and softball too. - Today

He will have no connections in the south though. Not sure how that helps Texas much unless they are after PNW guys. -
