Texas record against Playoff Teams
alrightalrightalright replied to Blue Horn's topic in On Texas Football Forum
For the sake of giving a few teams a smidge of credit, I'll call potential playoff teams those in the Top 15 of the final regular season AP Poll to include teams on the "bubble". Record Against Potential Playoff Teams Ohio State: 1-0 (Beat Texas) with B1G CG against Indiana remaining Indiana: 1-0 (Beat Oregon) with B1G CG against Ohio State remaining Georgia: 2-1 (Beat Ole Miss, Texas | Lost to Alabama) with SEC CG against Alabama remaining Oregon: 0-1 (Lost to Indiana) Texas Tech: 2-0 (Beat Utah, BYU) with Big 12 CG against BYU remaining Ole Miss: 1-1 (Beat Oklahoma | Lost to Georgia) Texas A&M: 1-1 (Beat Notre Dame | Lost to Texas) Oklahoma: 1-2 (Beat Alabama | Lost to Ole Miss, Texas) Notre Dame: 0-2 (Lost to Texas A&M, Miami) Alabama: 2-1 (Beat Georgia, Vanderbilt | Lost to Oklahoma) with SEC CG against Georgia remaining BYU: 1-1 (Beat Utah | Lost to Texas Tech) with Big 12 CG remaining against Texas Tech Miami: 1-0 (Beat Notre Dame) Vanderbilt: 0-2 (Lost to Alabama, Texas) Texas: 3-2 (Beat Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M | Lost to Ohio State, Georgia) Utah: 0-2 (Lost to Texas Tech, BYU) -------- Interesting Notes prior to Conference Championship Games 7 potential playoff teams have a winning record against this group of competition: Ohio State, Indiana, Georgia, Texas Tech, Alabama, Miami, Texas 4 potential playoff teams don't have a win against this group of competition: Oregon, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Utah 4 potential playoff teams have 2 wins against this group of competition: Georgia, Texas Tech, Alabama, Texas 1 potential playoff team has 3 wins against this group of competition: Texas After the Conference Championship Games, only 4 teams have the ability to have 3 wins against this group of competition: Georgia, Texas Tech, Alabama, Texas -

Texas record against Playoff Teams
Blue Horn replied to Blue Horn's topic in On Texas Football Forum
What I don’t understand is why CFB is the only sport that doesn’t put the best teams in the sport in the playoff. If this is the best we can do, I would rather go back to the old bowl system and regional rivalries. At least CFB was more representative of the region that you lived in and fueled debate and camaraderie amongst friends and family that went to those schools or had friends and family at those schools. -

So would leaving out Texas that out gained the number one team in the nation at home and is the only team that was within one score of OSU. -

So Texas is the only team that can’t afford a hiccup? ND lost to Northen Illinois. Bama lost to FSU that just got obliterated by Florida. Texas will most likely be the only team outside of the eventual playoff champ to beat three playoff teams. Think about that and then get back with me on the Florida loss. -
3 Stars of the Game vs. Texas A&M *** Star No. 1: Tre Wisner – Hard not to pick Wisner. For whatever the reason, he dominates against Texas A&M. A 155-yard performance on 19 rush attempts and a season-long 48-yard rush to kickoff the second half. Wisner was again very good and deserving of the game ball against Texas A&M. Star No. 2: Ethan Burke – This felt like a game early on where Ethan Burke was going to will his team to a win. The senior did just about everything and ended up blocking his second field goal attempt of the season in the first half when the offense was struggling to move the rock. Nine tackles, a TFL and a blocked field goal. Fantastic work. Star No. 3: Jack Endries – It probably has felt like a frustrating season for Endries in his first season as a Longhorn, but man did he end the regular season off strong. Four receptions for 93 yards and a massive 54-yard catch and run on the final play of the third quarter. HM1 Liona Lefau: No Anthony Hill Jr. No TyAnthony Smith for the first half, and it didn't matter. Lefau was superb for the Longhorns. HM2 Trevor Goosby: One pressure allowed on Friday night while facing one of the SEC's leading pass rushers in Cashius Howell. That was teach tape for the big time LT.

Other than the eventual playoff champ, Texas will most likely be the only other team that beat three playoff teams, and beat them handily! CFB just needs to make a super division of 60 or so teams and stop with the participation trophies to ND, the ACC and the Big 12. The SEC Championship game does nothing for the conference in the Playoff era. Just look at the numbers for the Texas OSU game to start the season! Let’s just have the best play the best and stop pretending that these other teams and conferences that do not value football like we do are at the same level. Sure they can catch a better team sleeping and pull out a one game upset, but that’s it. How ironic would it be if Texas doesn’t get into the CFP and the eventual playoff champ is the only other team to beat three play off teams? And not only did Texas beat this three teams, it did so in convincing fashion in each game.

If that's true then Texas will make the playoff field. If we are left out then big time OOC games will (and ought to be) a relic. I don't want to play at a disadvantage just for the sake of the sport and the networks. If we are going to do this all by loss column then Texas needs to play Indiana OOC schedules. -

Florida played 5 teams that are in contention for the CFP: @Miami vs Texas (true home game) @ TAMU vs UGA (neutral) @ Ole Miss These were all one score games in the 4th quarter. Which one doesn’t look like the other? Florida played 3 home SEC games and went 2-1, with a late loss to Tennessee after the team had already given up. Florida was a talented, capable team. Out of 5 good teams, they were due for one upset. We just happened to be the lucky team that caught them at the right time in the right conditions (no Muhammad, etc). Florida losing to USF also did not help. Florida truly was the most annoying team in CFB this year. Thanks Sun Belt Billy!

Not immediately. Only if we are left out on selection Sunday (which is obviously the most likely scenario) but let's give them a chance to get it right. -

The previous post(s) about cupcake scheduling hit the nail on the head, IMO - the networks won't stand for it. I grew up watching the OSU - Michigan, Texas - OU, and Alabama - Auburn games, and I have no skin in the game. Networks want to extend this to OOC games to Get the same results with folks watching a true marquee matchup.
-
That's because the big 12 was weak, and we needed a quality win to help our case. That doesn't matter at all now that we are in the SEC. The level of competition is so much higher.

This is where is matters moving forward. 9 SEC games a year is brutal but equates to elite SOS each year. Big non-con games aren't needed now and are really more of a risk in the current CFP format.
-
Keep the game. Go win it next year and fast track ourselves to the playoffs while not losing to an unranked team next year. Thats the solution. Just win the ones that were supposed to and don’t get blown out if we aren’t picked to win.

Looks like Oregon OC - Will Stein is the current favourite for the Kentucky job. Didn't realize he was a Kentucky native.
