I think the focus shouldn’t necessarily be personnel groupings but rather how they are being utilized. 12 Can work if we aren’t using both to block. OU crushed us when we went Max protection. We really moved the ball when we had more options out to pass. Sark tried to defend against the overload blitzes instead of beating them with quick routes and slants. Arch’s pick was on an overload blitz yet he had no quick options, or anything over the middle (granted 30 seconds left but we had two timeouts and it was 2nd and 10)

Mack vs Sark 5 years 5 games in
HookemTexas replied to MBHORNSFAN's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Comparable, but you also have to factor in outside factors. Mack didn't have to worry as much about roster turnover due to NIL, but he also couldn't just go out and buy (buy some accounts) the most expensive roster in college football this year. -
Against Ohio State: We scored 5 points more than Illinois did (blowout, not true comparison), and 10 points more than IOWA did. Against Tennessee: We scored 6 more points than Auburn, 3 more than Arkansas did, and 4 points less than Georgia Tech did. Against OU: We scored 7 more than MICHIGAN did (while giving up 14 on Offense/ST combo) and scored 18 more than New Mexico...Again, while giving them the game on offense/ST combined. And in the game against the DAUNTING UTSA defense: Scored 4 more than Texas State did, 15 less than Colorado State did, 16 more than Rice did, and 6 more than South Florida did...Colorado State, Texas State, and South Florida all put up those numbers on the road, while we were at home. Congrats, but you are gonna have to beat multiple good defenses to achieve anything close to what the goals are.

Florida QB Aaron Philo is a candidate to appear on Wednesday's injury report. Backup QB Tramell Jones played 16 snaps vs. South Carolina last week. He was 6-8 passing for 40 yards and an INT.

The Claim This Morning that the Offense is "Just Average"
CJ Vogel replied to AustinsTruth's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Seeing Matt Patricia, Jim Knowles and Brent Venables in three of five weeks will make life difficult for anyone. However, I did not expect to see this level of struggle given the talent and experience. -

Texas Offensive FEI is currently 27th, SP+ has it at 16th in terms of advance metrics for offenses adjusted to opponents. Neither of those numbers are good relative to talent. 3rd Down % - 44.59% ranks 46th nationally. Red Zone TD % - 66.67% ranks 51st nationally. Red Zone Scoring % - 66.67 ranks 41st nationally.

Hold the Mayo, Week 7: which line is the most wrong?

It won’t let me play anymore. I tried to claim my guest account and it said it can’t be done. 🤷♂️ -
Besides being false on its face to anybody who has neurons firing in their brain, let's look at the actual offensive rankings this season so far. Total offense: 80th, 364.8 Yds/Game 364.8.....(Top 42% of FBS) Scoring offense: 59th 31.4 points/game....(Bottom 42% of FBS) Rushing offense: 88th, 141.6 yards/game....(Bottom 63% of FBS) Passing offense: 63rd, 223.2 yards/game....(Bottom 46% of FBS) These are out of 138 teams...So if you want to say the offense is better than exactly half of the country, they almost are. I would say that given the players (and the money), that isn't just not meeting expectations. That is not playing "average" that is terrible. For everything except yards per game, they are below average nationally. It gets worse for their place in the SEC: By SEC Rank: Total offense: 11th...(Bottom 68% of SEC) Scoring offense: 11th....(Bottom 68.8% of SEC) Passing yards/game: 9th....(Bottom 56% of SEC) Rushing yards/game: 11th....(Bottom 68% of SEC) So, they are almost average nationally, and are significantly below average in the SEC. Fans react to what their eyes tell them, and their eyes aren't saying "wow that isn't what we expected." Their eyes are telling them "wow, this is terrible."

Hold the Mayo, Week 7: which line is the most wrong?
Kyle Miller replied to Kyle Miller's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Agreed. Bama and Georgia are the only 2 favorites I'm pretty confident about, same as it ever was. -
I'd argue being one of the highest paid state employees whose salary is paid for by fans and donors, he does owe reporters and the fan base answers. I'd also argue that press conferences do matter because answers there and how you treat the media directly affects the perception of you. You treat the media and your beat reporters poorly, that isn't going to work well for the coach. The last thing a coach wants is for the media, thus the fan base souring on them because any issue from the past will rear its ugly head.

It seems like our OLine does a lot of catching instead of driving off the ball. They automatically get into a pass blocking set on run plays so it prevents them from getting any push. It's almost as if they are walling them off instead of trying to displace them. That's a technical problem. Our receivers, Coleman especially, are providing nothing in the run game. Great thread @Jeff Howe!

This is a good week to pick some underdogs covering or even flat out winning -
Have you sent this to Sark? 😆 Clearly, Sumrall wants Texas to keep Banks. Does anyone wonder why? Gators are licking their chops!

Woof, last weekend was rough, but at least we got to hate watch A&M lose to Missouri and former Longhorn CJ Baxter help lead Kentucky in their upset of LSU. 2 overtime wins with a 2-point conversion in 2 weeks?! Unreal. 82% of the Mayo board took Texas -9.5 in Dallas. We all know how that went. It wasn't just Texas. 82% also had Florida -14.5, and South Carolina won by 19. Another 82% had Tennessee -13.5, and the Vols won by just 7. Congrats to @McCoy2Shipley, who Holds the Mayo after going 5-2 in Week 6. Five of you also finished 5-2 (@Bunk Moreland, @BKBTX, @TravelingHorn, and @WRNC), but McCoy2Shipley's picks were in first. Week 7 is open. Seven SEC games against the spread, best record Holds the Mayo, ties go to whoever picked first: Florida at Texas (-10.5), 11:00 AM CT Mississippi State at LSU (-12.5), 11:00 AM CT Auburn at Georgia (-20.5), 2:30 PM CT Alabama (-8.5) at Tennessee, 2:30 PM CT Missouri at Ole Miss (-6.5), 2:30 PM CT Arkansas at Vanderbilt (-6.5), 6:00 PM CT Kentucky at Oklahoma (-6.5), 6:30 PM CT The pick for each game locks at its own kickoff, and you can change your picks any time between now and then without losing your place in line. That being said, which of these seven lines is the most wrong? Texas laying 10.5 a week after losing as a 9.5-point favorite seems sus, but I think with Florida's defensive issues they could reasonably cover. Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see Missouri upset Ole Miss and I'm not convinced LSU will cover 12.5, but I've got my 👀 on that Kentucky-OU matchup. OU favored by nearly a touchdown? Here's to hoping for a big bounce back win this weekend for the Horns. stance.fm/mayo Hook 'em! 🤘
