OTF Premium Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
AusMOJO replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Be interesting to see a thread started on this and get peoples thoughts on Flood and the recruitment/development of the OL. No bigger task than getting this OL ready this year. Who is even better than Flood? It wouldn't be just replacing an OL coach but also your OC. - Today

I know people will hit the panic button, but I do like that the staff is extra careful with injuries. No reason to risk these guys in practices if we don't need to. As for the OL reshuffling, it's nothing new. Literally everyone does. Hell, even Ohio State has been doing it this fall camp. Texas did it last year, too. I like that they're trying new ways to see how the line looks, etc. Goosby will be back and ready to rumble against Ohio State. -

I wouldn't say they were mortal in the playoffs, they still kicked ass.

2008 was much better on offense. The offense really missed Cosby and Ogbonnaya in 2009. Though I wonder if some of the struggle was also a result of opponents doing a lot of film study on the Colt Mccoy offense over the summer and finding a few answers. Both teams kind of sucked on the OL. (McWhorter has to be the worst recruiting assistant coach that we've had). 2009 was probably better on defense, but they also didn't have to play Sam Bradford, Crabtree, Terrelle Pryor, etc, so that helped. (Not unlike our defense last year who also dominated a slate of bad offenses but showed to be a bit more mortal in the playoffs). Overall IMO 2008 was the better team, though 2009 probably had the better chance to win the NC just because the competition was weaker.

I came across a thread on a Georgia forum where the OP pointed out something interesting: last year, every team that won their conference ended up losing in the quarterfinals. Oregon lost to fOSU, Georgia lost to ND, Boise State lost to Penn State, and Arizona lost to Texas. Maybe taking that extra week off kills momentum at such a crucial point in the postseason? Or maybe last year was just a weird one-off—not sure, it was the first season with the 12-team playoff. Either way, it’ll be nice to flex that we won the SEC in our second season. But that datapoint (small as it is) does make you wonder: is it actually better to miss the conference or even lose it just to keep momentum rolling? Thoughts? 🤘🏾

I was certain that the Michigan was next year but thanks for the correction.

2026 Schedule Predictions
LonghornFan4Ever replied to LonghornFan4Ever's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The deal was @ Michigan last year, @ Ohio State this year, home for Ohio State next year, and home for Michigan in 2027. The only tweak made was FOX wanted to broadcast the Texas-Michigan game to be in Ann Arbor as part of the deal for Texas to join the SEC a year early. Originally, last year’s game was going to be in Austin and the 2027 game in Ann Arbor. -

He will. He was part of the 2023 cycle so if he has another good year, he’s gone. -
Pretty sure we know that Ohio State won't be on the schedule until 2027. From what I remember, the deals were made for @Michigan in '24, @ Ohio State in '25 and then they return the favor by coming to Austin in '26 (Michigan) and '27 (Ohio State).

Not sure what went down last season with Bond. Hope he gets it all figured out and finds success in the League. -

Back when Vince came out there was no rookie scale. There is no way we could produce enough NIL to prevent that.

Hmm. Couple of factors here. - I think the staff has been happier with Baker’s work this spring and summer than some might recognize. Some believe he is the hardest worker on the OL. Not sure on the supposition that he’s been on a slow development curve. He’s literally a redshirt freshman and preparing to start this year. - Brooks was tackle no. 3 leaving spring. Then he got the DUI. Mentally, that will set a player back in the mind of a coach. And that occurred after the portal closed. In other words, they left spring thinking Brooks would be there for them. - Cojoe was not going to be a swing tackle. The pre-camp idea was for Brooks to groom at left tackle and Cojoe to push Baker. - In retrospect, they could have used another tackle in the portal IMO. -

This topic is intriguing to say the least, but this era of blocking someone or ignoring someone’s opinions as a whole just because you think they are being negative or disagree with the point is just pitiful. There are easily solid points made on both sides but my God I pray we can get past this culture of putting our hands over our ears when things don’t go our way or someone isn’t being nice to us… -

I hate to walk in to the middle of a compete street fight of a thread and ask a question but what exactly was the plan at OT if Brooks hadn’t presented as a ready option on this line? The staff has known Baker has had a slow development curve on campus. Had Brooks not been ready (which he still might not be) was it all in on Cojoe as the third option swing tackle?
