Alcohol is much worse for society BECAUSE it has been so widely adopted. It destroys families, increases auto deaths, crime, health care costs, etc. Far exceeding any economic benefit for the companies, shareholders and employees of alcohol companies. I'm not making judgements on anyone that chooses to gamble, smoke weed, drink alcohol or watch porn. I do, however, believe that all of those pretty obviously make society as a whole worse off. I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand or comes across like some hot take.

Fair. Similarly I’d love not to hear certain ads, but I’m not going to complain about getting a ton of free content. The midroll ads get me every time. CJ will be nerding out on some stat then @Blake Munroe is trying to make me a weed smoking gambling degenerate all of a sudden. Simultaneously funny and annoying.

Yea the problem is how new it is (as far as the stupidly high THC %) so we have no idea what is actually doing to our brains.

To be clear, I'm not judging OTF for their sponsors. You can't watch anything on YouTube without seeing these ads. I still watch, just lament the fact these are the ads that pay the bills because they are obviously driving sales of things I personally would not like to see widely adopted by society as I view them as net negatives.

Can we please have one post where we don’t attack posters that might have a different opinion? I left IT because I spent more time reading posters complaining about other posters. I am not getting on to you, but hoping people see this post and keep the board focused on football rather than people bitching about people that complain. I am tired of having to look through my three pages of back and forth for a couple of posts actually talking about football.

The entire point of the thread was the frustration over not being able to attend a sporting event on campus without the stink of weed. I added my annoyance with the constant advertising barrage of sports gambling watching and attending sporting events. I don't have any idea whether athletes watch porn on not but they aren't filming in front of families on the 50 yard-line.

Personally, I’d love not to take ad dollars from certain segments. At the same time, this is a business and I want to make payroll.

I mean, I could have included porn as something that makes society worse too but it has invaded sports...yet.

People love to make jokes and sometimes we make snide remarks, etc, but I actually think you are correct...in 20 years we may finally admit how bad it was, particularly for people younger than 25 years old (brain deveopment). I appreciate your comment and the probable courage it took to make it, knowing that so many of us will probably pooh pooh it. It's a hot button topic. I remember when MADD first formed and how much bad and derisive criticism those mothers received from the rest of us...we could drive in those days with open containers in our cars!! And we did!! We smoked in grocery stores and traffic courts and teachers' break rooms and offices and hospitals(!!)...you get the picture...it was crazy where we all smoked...and this was up into the early 90's! I'll be curious to see what happens in the future...

The legalization and increased adoption of weed and gambling is going to make our society much worse. That is reason enough to dislike them but the smell of weed and constantly advertisements for "daily fantasy" and "prediction markets" is just as awful to me personally.

Biggest lobbyist spend to keep weed illegal in Texas - the alcohol and tobacco industries. When in doubt, follow the money.
