  1. Past hour
  2. It's inherently political. This isn't a football thread being derailed or anything. What gives?
  3. I don’t care which side you’re on, we’re not going to get into political issues on the board.
  4. In comes the censoring. Embarrassing.
  5. Aside of all the other nonsense, how can you possibly think a bloated government is better than small government??
  6. If he starts to tank the athletic department, his tenure at Texas will be as short if not shorter than Patterson’s was.
  7. True that but it makes more sense to me to say that given they beat them in 2023 and 2024 that it's possible they could beat them in 2025 than it is to say I know they beat them in 2023 and 2024 but it is not possible for them to beat them in 2025, no? I know we're all fans here, but no excuse for any of us to completely abandon our ability to reason

  10. This guy is a Steve Patterson level hire for the university in layman's terms. Expect chaos and dysfunction.
  11. MONTHS BEFORE HE glided past the Rose Bowl pylon for Texas' first national championship in 35 years, Vince Young scrawled a challenge on the locker room whiteboard: If you want to beat Ohio State, meet me on the practice field at 7 tonight. During the 2005 offseason, the Texas quarterback grew tired of watching teammates skip workouts and slouch in meetings. The Longhorns had defeated Michigan in Pasadena to finish the 2004 season with 11 victories. But Young sensed complacency and entitlement ahead of the next season and knew a national title would require winning in Columbus in Week 2. "Guys were coming in, feeling themselves," Young said. "But that type of character was going to get your ass whooped by Ohio State. We needed to button it up and get to work." After Young's whiteboard message, nobody missed a summer workout -- not even the voluntary practice that night. "It was a complete turnaround," said running back Selvin Young, Vince Young's roommate. That leadership set the tone for one of the greatest seasons in college football history -- spearheaded by one of its greatest players. As Ohio State All-American linebacker A.J. Hawk put it: "That dude was Superman." Though he finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up to Reggie Bush, Young produced a season of iconic moments, bookended by winning touchdowns: first at Ohio State, and finally against USC. To reach the Rose Bowl, Texas had to survive the fourth-ranked Buckeyes, who had title aspirations of their own. "That Ohio State team was stacked," said Longhorns safety Michael Griffin, one of 13 future NFL first-round draft picks to appear in the game. "[Texas coach] Mack Brown was basically telling us, whoever wins should make it to the national title game." Two decades later, the stakes are high again.... It's too long to post all of it, but read the full article here: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/46020555/college-football-vince-young-rise-texas-legend-began-ohio-state
  12. It says 104K this morning. Best Texas site there is.
  13. We’re talking about 2025, right? Michigan & Alabama’s team 2 years ago has little resemblance to the team now.
  14. Woooo!! So happy for you guys! Best in the biz and so well deserved! 🎉🤘
  15. So I've been working on this for the last few weeks and I must say I'm pretty excited about what I've put together. For the last couple of years we've had numerous people ask about doing a high school football show during football season. It's something that I kicked around with Bobby, but never actively pursued until now. Beginning next week, we will have a weekly show that is all about Texas High School Football called "The Fieldhouse" and each week we'll discuss some of the state's biggest games, the players, storylines and we'll even focus on Texas commit performances as well. It's the lineup that has me super excited, however. I'll be hosting, but I'll be joined by: Carl Padilla - Carl is a prominent figure in Texas high school football, often referred to as "The Godfather of Texas High School Football." In 1997 he founded the Padilla Poll, a high school football polling and news source dedicated to covering the sport in Texas. The Padilla Poll provides rankings, news, and updates on high school football teams, players, and coaches across the state. Coach Bob Shipley - Father of former Longhorn WRs Jordan and Jaxon Shipley, Coach Shipley has had numerous successful stops around the state, including being the Head Coach at Burnet, Brownwood, Coppell and Rotan. He also worked for the University of Texas as both an analyst and as the Director of High School Relations. Coach Tim Buchanan - Longtime HC/AD of Aledo, Coach Buchanan went 281-58 over the course of his career, while winning EIGHT state titles. His eight titles are tied with G.A. Moore, Jr. and behind only Gordon Wood (9) and Scott Surratt (10). He is one of only three Texas high school football coaches to win state championships in four decades. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't giddy about this. All three bring unique perspectives to the table and have been involved in Texas High School Football for an incredibly long time. I easily could have called the show "3 GOATs and 1 scrub", but The Fieldhouse sounded much nicer. As soon as we finalize what day/time the show will run, I will post that as well.

  16. It will work so long as the athletes are still required to attend and pass classes on a reasonable course to graduate. And I think it is inevitable and the only economically feasible solution. If the athletes are actually students getting paid [graduate TAs are students getting paid - it's not an unknown concept] then it remains a college sport. If there are no classroom requirements it becomes a sponsored pro sport.
  17. It’s inevitable. Were chasing too many things that’ll lead down that path.
  18. I'm very aware of Caden's experience, I've watched him. I'm certain he will play well in big games because he already has, I've seen him. Simply because he didn't play alot of snaps with JTT and Sawyer in front of him is not the same as saying he didn't play well when he rotated in....he did, I watched him. If he couldn't play, he would not have seen the field period. Re: Hero...why did he transfer? He transferred because he saw a greater probability of getting more playing time somewhere else. If it doesn't work out for him in Austin, he's prob about the same spot he was in Columbus We did lose some experience on the back end. We still have Caleb Downs and proven, game tested replacements. We'll be fine. Last years defense was nasty, by many accounts the best in the country. Will this years version be as good? Who knows. If the front plays as expected, I think they have a chance to be as good or better. Even if they are not as good as last years monster, they're can still be nasty. Your new QB, with a relatively new group in front of him, hasn't seen anything like he's gonna see....how many drop back pass attempts does he have in front of a hostile crowd of 100,000+? That's what I'm talking about
  19. Well put it this way, if he screws with any of that, he won't be President very long lol.

  23. As far as how this affects Texas athletics, this is who CDC will be reporting to now after the previous president Jay Hartzell took the SMU job with the same title. As long as CDC, Davis, and Eltife are all aligned, Texas athletics should continue to hum and stack Directors’ Cups for years to come. Should be good from an athletics standpoint.

  25. There’s no doubt you have talent all over the board. You’re trying awfully hard to convince yourself that you’ll have a “nasty” defense. You are aware that this Curry of which you speak has 4 career games in which he’s logged 20 or more snaps. Against Western Kentucky, Purdue, Purdue and Northwestern. Him playing well in big games is no more a sure thing than our Oline being ready. Again one of your interior did not play infinitely more than Hero. A guy who likely sits about equaly on our depth chart, if not potentially lower. Your defensive line is not more talented/experienced than guys we’ve seen. Your stadium/crowd is not wholly different from places we’ve been. You are rotating out a front 4 that logged some 7,000 snaps for one with about 1,000. You lost considerable experience on the back-end too. But sure expect no drop off.
  26. .....and just for the record, I don't know what fellow Buckeye fan is smoking, but there is a virtually zero chance we score 31 on your defense. The only way that happens is if Arch struggles with the noise, the pressure and disguised coverages he's gonna see in the back end and turns the ball over too many times which is a distinct possiblity. I expect both defenses to control the game for the most part. At the end of the day I think we have more weapons and home field advantage that is the difference....still working on score prediction but we ain't scoring 31 without Arch's help but I just don't see Sark giving him that kind of rope
