  1. Past hour
  2. Those saying Bama is a better job than Penn State aren't wrong. However, Penn State isn't trash either. It's a good academic school in the Big 10 with a stadium that seats 106k and a fanbase obsessed with football. Not like it's a terrible gig. JF had them competitive most years but only won the Big 10 once. They gave him 12 years. Imagine what KD could do. Same general argument if USC opened up. Saban looking over your shoulder with an office in the facility and a possibly unbeatable legacy is a lot to deal with. Bama fans are ruthless from the Saban entitlement. Not everybody loves that idea. I'm not saying KD will leave or stay but I wouldn't be surprised either way. Penn State would hire him in a heartbeat and give him plenty of rebuilding time if he wanted out of Bama.
  3. I believe that if you surveyed college football fans, media members, coaches, and other respected figures in the sport about who deserves a playoff spot this year—Texas or the other contenders (Notre Dame, Miami, Oklahoma, Alabama)—Texas would receive the most support. Their résumé stands out when you look at the combination of overall record, the difficulty of both their conference and non-conference schedules, and their head-to-head results. Choosing Texas would also avoid setting a precedent that encourages teams to schedule weak non-conference opponents. And when you consider the context of their losses—falling to Ohio State by just one score on the road while outgaining them in total yards, and trailing Georgia by only four points in the fourth quarter—it strengthens their case even further. The committee’s framing of the Florida loss also seems misleading; Florida was far from a Division III-level opponent, had an elite roster, and nearly beat Georgia this season.
  4. He’s pretty small for the SEC. Jalen Catalon minus 25 pounds.
  5. I zapped the record information from Marathon's analysis for brevity. I think he really hit the nail on the head....... the "committee" looks at won/loss records. That is the flaw. College football is NOT the NFL! The differences between the best and worst teams in the NFL are small. Won/Loss records are a valid analysis. This is not true in college ball. There is a huge difference between the top 20 schools and the bottom 70 schools. The Committee and other pundits that use only W/L which is insane. Finally, what makes the football tournament so frustrating is that it doesn't even follow the same logic format as all of the other NCAA sports. I am sure Jeff or someone can elaborate, but the final tournament rankings do not value wins against cream puffs and assign a + value to games with the highest ranked teams. Basically, the people that control football are idiots. Ultimately these guys will force a 48 school (or less) national league upon us. This will kill the Texas States, James Madisons, etc. I need to stop now.
  6. Where did he say that? and why?
  7. I have heard that he may get a few more PSU guys to VaTech via the portal.
  8. I think the fan base is split 80/20. Eighty percent know there's a screwjob happening but don’t know how to push back without sounding like complainers. The other 20% are indirectly defending the committee by using the lazy argument that "you shoulda beat Florida"—maybe they’re just fed up with the season or simply don’t get why a 9-3 team with a difficult in conference and out of conference schedule should get in over a 10-2 team that had it easy for most of the year. I agree with the play in game concept but its too late for that this year. However, it's not too late to force the committee to debate live on national TV this weekend. They should be made to explain their reasoning and hear the other side. Many respected media and sports figures—not from Texas—agree this ranking is a screwjob and needs fixing immediately.
  9. Solid player. 2 INT, only 6 missed tckles Texas will be in the market for a safety. We will see what they end up doing.
  10. Everyone seems to think we need receivers, and I guess I could see us taking one, but I don't see how it's possible we would need to depend on the portal after bringing in 2 top 10 receiver commits last class. At that point, I'm questioning Chris Jackson.
  11. He would need to disdain Alabama to leave them for PSU under these conditions imo.
  12. He can always take Russell with a massive NiL deal to PSU. Gerry said Deboer doesn’t like Bama
  13. Alabama is just simply a better job and he's already stacking recruiting classes and building a team he likes. I mean, he already has Keelon Russell waiting to take over. It doesn't get much better than that.
  14. PSU will give him 5/6 years given circumstances.
  15. Fewer games than the NFL, far more unbalanced schedules leads to inconclusive choices.
  16. Today
  17. The rebuild at Penn St. is going to be just like when it was post Joe Paterno. It's going to be literally ashes.
  18. There’s a very low chance Bama will be left out of the CFP regardless of the outcome of that game, and imo an even lower chance DeBoer would leave a CFP bound Bama in the lurch a la Kiffin. DeBoer is not a Kiffin-type, and even if he was PSU is not LSU. Kiffin inherited a Top 15 class before any Ole Miss to LSU flips or transfers are factored in. Whoever takes over PSU is inheriting the 150 class! TWO RECRUITS!
  19. Or is this the “Saban to Texas” a la 2013? Bama will need to lose the SECCG by 3 scores for the committee to even CONSIDER leaving them out in any scenario. The only scenario Bama could even be left out is if BYU wins. And I don’t even think they would be left out then. The committee postured exactly the way they needed to keep Bama in no matter what. If BYU wins and Bama loses, Bama bumps to 10 and ND is out. That is exactly why they flipped ND and Bama. The SEC #1 seed would not be left out due to a championship game outcome. The SEC would burn the CFB world to the ground. If ND is excluded, literally who cares other than ND and their fans? ND has zero leverage. ND NEEDS the conferences more than anyone needs ND (which is not at all).
  20. I'm amused that people think the committee is screwing up the process. That is just what committees do. Let the computers pick. As for expansion it has only made things worse. Imagine the committee having to deal with 16, 24, or even as someone suggested 32 teams. The playoffs are watered down with 12 teams, imagine 32. The best 8 teams in football should be in the playoffs. Set the criteria and let the computers pick, adjust if necessary and it will eventually be right. Giving a committee more teams to deal with only brings more chaos.
  21. On top of them losing probably 7-10 guys in the draft, and then whoever portals out.... They're going to need to bring in a massive portal class if they want to field a competent team.
  22. hopefully it was a snap/hold situation that was the problem, missing PATs at any level is cause for concern.
  23. What is your source for these stats?
