And let me just say, when I say Arch was too scripted, it was in the context of a Matt Patricia defense that thoroughly confused him in the first half. In a script you want to see what you are told you will see, IMO he was confused and petrified a little (maybe a lot) when he didn’t see what he expected. All credit to Patricia. This is just a hunch of course, but seems plausible. His mechanics and football play haven’t ever been this bad. There is no pattern or trend for what happened in that first half.

I don’t think we will know anything with success until Florida. He will probably play great and rah, rah, but will we really know how he will handle the swamp against a competent Florida defense? No. (Sorry to the teams we play next, no disrespect). I guess if he plays bad against inferior competition that will be a red flag though. I hope not, Arch is great. Hope he succeeds for sure.

Rank these six teams after the last two days
LovingBuckeye replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
1. Ohio State 2. LSU 3. Miami 4. Penn State 5. Georgia 6. Texas 7. Oregon 8. Notre Dame 9. Clemson 10. Florida State That would probably by my top ten if I had a vote -
I’m thankful for every win, but Texas is just as lucky they didn’t lose 21-0. I believe Arch had 38 yards entering the 4th quarter. It was complete domination.

well we were that bad last year and it may not really be considering our portal additions. You'd think it'd realize that the punting was much better after game 1 though. What I don't understand is why it didn't punish Ohio State's offense just as much as ours. It must have registered our 4th quarter yards and points as "garbage time", which is a little silly given we had a clear chance to tie the game at the end. -

I think the first half was too scripted and Arch had to think too much. He needed to play looser and free like in the 4th quarter. We’ve had 2 other QBs like this, VY and Ehlinger. That had to be felt out. His talents were a little mismanaged. That’s ok, Safk has to feel this new QB out as well. And we are talking about a 1st start on the road in the biggest college football opener in modern history. We expect Manning’s to be perfect . They don’t have to be, they just have to get better. Peyton did. He has the pedigree and work ethic to do just that. We will see.

man talk about delusion. Ohio had 11 1st down and 2 were because of penalties on the UT defense. Ohio st only scores 7 points if Simmons doesn’t get the face mask. Funny you say UT didn’t have open receivers. Most of Arch’s bad passes were to wide open receivers. We were inside the 10 yard line twice and came away with 0 points. Arch missed wingo on a crossing route on the 5 yard line. If he hits him in stride that’s a td. On the pass to Livingston ( where the Ohio st db held him on 4th down) in the corner of the end zone he had a receiver wide open in the middle of the field. Be happy you won. When the other team out gains you by 130 yds and holds the you to a 11 first downs and 200 yards of offense you should be very thankful for a win. When the opposing qb misses open receivers throughout the game you should feel very thankful for the win. When the opposing defense gives you 2 first downs (one on a 3rd down stop) on your only scoring drive of the first half, you should feel very thankful. When your offense only crosses the 50 yrs line twice in the game and you win you should be very thankful for the win.

Curious to get the mods thoughts on the evolution of Sark’s offense. Time will tell, but it feels like in the biggest games we get out-schemed. Almost like Sark doesn’t change things up enough and more so relies on having more talent than the other team. Appears that some defensive-minded coaches have figured out how to prepare for this offense. Will be curious to see how Florida and OU play out.

A lot of great points have already been made. I’ll just say that while penalties killed us, Shark was out coached and Arch failed to execute simple short passes at critical moments and frankly throughout the game. How many easy throws did he drill into the ground or throw behind wide open receivers? He also made terrific passes and I believe he will become more consistent over time. But at some point Sark has to prove he can win against elite competition because he hasn’t done it as a head coach and more importantly at Texas. The win against Saban two years ago is the only one. Michigan last year doesn’t count because they were bad. Since then, two losses to Georgia and two losses OSU. The monkey is getting a large on his back. On the positive side,Hats off to the defense. If you only allow 14 points,, your team ought to win even if you committed penalties that gave the other team seven of those points. The good news is that if the offense can just become competent, this team could go all the way.

The left side of our O-Line is big and strong!

Agree. Stroh looked awesome out there and next to Goosby that’s a hell of a duo. Woulda coulda but Arch should have snuck it on that side. -

Despite the lack of burst in the RB room, 200+ rushing ypg and 5+ ypc is very doable, especially when you throw in Manning’s running ability. That might be the best way to maximize this offense this season. The right side of the line needs to match that and they’ll be set. -

I think this is pretty spot on. Not sure what Sark needs to do better play design/calling wise, but he seemed pleased with the calls in that 1st half, so not sure it's going to change. Seems like a lot of us underestimated Patracia's D and his influence on it. Seems like it rattled Arch more than we thought. Arch seemed to have the tips from the get go, that first pass of his might've been the warning sign. He got it going late in the game but by then still too late and still making some poor decisions. -

Considering how much better Beck looked against ND with Miami, I'd say Ewers not coming back somewhere else for another year was maybe a mistake on his part. We'll see how Beck does on the season, but he was a big reason they won that game, imo. Not sure who the rumored team was that wanted him but I do admire his loyalty to Texas and not wanting to play for anyone else. I just wonder if another year in college would've benefited him. As in if the guy sitting behind him wasn't Arch Manning, does he come back for another year? -

Here for the Wins replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Well sure just like any player would. It is easier to think a call through than to think a play thru then deliver physically. That is probably a common denominator for any game. There are plays that leave points on the table due to lack of execution.
