Steamboat Willie Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago If you’re stunned, congratulations — you’re having the correct emotional response. This is Sark making a very deliberate, very loud statement that “good” isn’t good enough anymore. Last year’s defense flirted with elite. This year’s defense settled into solid-but-frustrating, especially once the back end started leaking oil midseason. And in Sark’s world, that’s unacceptable with championship-level talent on the roster. Enter Coach Boom. Again. Muschamp isn’t here to experiment, grow into the role, or vibe. He’s here to bring violence, accountability, and clarity — three things that quietly slipped this season. This is the defensive equivalent of saying: “Enough. We’re fixing this now.” Is it harsh to move on from PK after coordinating one of the best defenses in the country just a year ago? Yep. Is Muschamp a safer, higher-floor hire with instant credibility in the SEC arms race? Also yep. This feels less like a downgrade/upgrade debate and more like a reset of tone: Less confusion Fewer coverage busts More third-down stops More “you WILL do your job” energy And the timing matters. Muschamp coaching the bowl game means he’s already evaluating personnel, identifying portal priorities, and setting expectations before January hits. That’s not an accident. Bottom line: Sark just told everyone — players, staff, recruits, the SEC — that Texas is done being patient on defense. You don’t make this move unless you’re chasing something big. 17 1 Quote

LonghornLegends Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago So what about the offensive line emergency button? That’s bigger to me than the defense which pretty much saved Sarks offense the last couple years. Quote

drag worm Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago 3rd in scoring is flirting with elite? Offense hasn’t sniffed that kind of ranking. Quote

As gerry has said, He starts making changes on that side of the ball, they don’t work, Then there’s only one last guy to blame and that’s the guy sark sees in the mirror. Quote

AusMOJO Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago So who do you fire for the average to below average offense? Apparently that is acceptable but "good" defense isn't "good" enough? When PK's D carried this team in '23 and '24. Even in parts of '25. Yes he has his issues, but unless there behinds the scenes issues, I don't see why this is a good thing. Has Muscahmp coached defense at a high level in recent years? That's a genuine question not me throwing shade. Anyway, best of luck to PK. Loved what he did at Texas and despite his misgivings, was never a problem at Texas. Hope he lands somewhere and succeeds. Let's see what Muschamp can do. Quote

Now Sark needs to deal with that play caller guy to address the putrid offensive performances that put the defense in horrible situations. Quote
Bunk Moreland Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) I love the move personally. Sark wants an attacking defense like Kirby fields at Georgia. Nobody better than Coach Boom to roll it out. This is about getting Texas over the Georgia hump and winning it all. Very gutsy move by Sark. But I hope he is prepared to go ALL IN on his side of the ball too, because his offenses have not been even close to good enough since he’s been at Texas. Edited 1 hour ago by Bunk Moreland 1 Quote
