Longhorns Sit in Pole Position for 2027 Cornerback

****

One of the top defensive backs in the state of Texas made the three hour trip from Garland to Austin on Saturday for the first junior day of the calendar year.

Lakeview Centennial's Montre Jackson received a Texas offer on the first week of January and wasted no time getting down to see the Texas staff and the check out the campus.

Jackson spoke with reporters following his time on the 40 Acres to recap his visit and to update where things stand with the Longhorns and his recruitment.

It was a great day," Jackson said. "I had a great conversation with Coach Sark and finally got to talk with Coach Muschamp."

Jackson said the conversation with Muschamp remained focused on the idea that he is a priority for the staff and someone Texas values highly on their board at the moment. Prior to the visit, Jackson had spoke with Muschamp a couple of times over the phone after he was announced as the Texas defensive coordinator.

The efforts from Sarkisian, Muschamp and corners coach Mark Orphey has Texas sitting in the top spot for Jackson at the moment.

"It's probably, definitely my number one right now," Jackson said. "Definitely leading my recruitment right now, for sure."

Oklahoma and Tennessee are two others that are hot in pursuit, but for Jackson he says his previous trips to Austin combined with the relationships with staff members keeps the Longhorns ahead of the remaining competition.

Jackson says he will be taking his official visits before making an final decision with his recruitment. Schools in the running for an official include Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M, SMU and Duke. Of course, Texas will be receiving one as well.

I mentioned Jackson as one of my takeaways from the afternoon. Much taller than I had anticipated coming out of the trip, a legitimate 6–1 and some change.

He told me afterwards that he hopes to run 10.1 in the 100m and 20.7 in the 200m this spring. Last year he ended up recording a 10.3, showcasing already elite speed at the cornerback position.

Same high school as former Longhorns Derrick and Cedric Dockery.

Taught in that district for a long time (South Garland and Sachse) and it has been very good to the Longhorns.

Herkie Walls, Brandon Loy, Charles Omenihu, Devin Duvernay and Jason Flores come to mind among several others.

Most coaches there are Texas friendly

somehow you left out that he only had 3 passes completed against him all season.  Yeah, he's a take all the way.  Recruit til the final whistle!

His elite speed really showed on the last highlight.

These are the types of DBs that get me excited in a Muschamp defense.
