Moderators Popular Post Blake Munroe Posted April 3 Moderators Popular Post Share Posted April 3 I spoke with a pair of coaches who attended a practice recently. Although they're familiar with the team, neither are huge Texas fans. Obviously that means it was tough for them to get into player specific answers, but both had a lot to say from a coaching standpoint. Coach 1 is a head coach and coach 2 is a coordinator. Both coach at the same school and I spoke with both at the same time. On How Practices Are In General Coach 1: "Incredibly well ran. There is a lot going on at all times, but the organization of it all was very impressive. Every coach was on top of what they were doing. As a head coach, you're looking to see what all your coaches are doing at all times, so I wanted to see how it was done there. Every staff member I saw there was on top of things. There were a lot of things I took mental notes on that I want to begin to incorporate into what we do at the high school level." Coach 2: "Smooth. That's how I would describe it. I've coached at many different levels of high school ball, so I've seen things go good and bad, but it was smooth all over. They're letting their guys coach and do their job. And those guys do a great job at it." What Stood Out From A Coaching Perspective C1: "The buy in. I'm constantly preaching to our kids about buying into our program. I want it ingrained into their heads from day one. We are a team, we act as a team, we play as a team, we do everything together and we always have each others back. From what I saw, everyone was bought in. They held each other accountable. That's exactly the type of culture I'm always trying to build. You could tell they have a common goal and they were prepping for that goal. If someone messed up, they all learned from it through talking or punishment. No complaining. No 'but, coach...'. No excuses. They work together. That's the sign of a good team who's bought in. I love it." C2: "Communication between position coaches, coordinators and Sark was great. I think that's something that is often overlooked. You can have a great staff, but if you aren't communicating with one another and working together, it can blow up in your face. Those guys do a great job of talking with each other, sharing thoughts and ideas, along with communicating that to their players." What Position Group Impressed The Most C1: "If I had a QB room like that, we would win state." C2: "The defensive ends were so athletic. I've had some great defenses, but those guys are on another level." What Other Position(s) Caught Their Eye C1: "I'm an offense guy first, so the athleticism of the wide receivers were off the charts. Those guys are playmakers. It has to be a lot of fun scheming up plays for them. They have guys who can do it all and line up all over the field. I'm definitely jealous." C2: "The safeties. The way those guys are built is just different. They're fast, they have great instincts. Great overall awareness. I was impressed." 48

FrancoBevo3.0
If they practice like a well oiled machine, they will be ready to play the games like a well oiled machine. Gotta love it 🤘

Han Soul Hole
Great stuff. Love hearing the insights from HS coaches. They don't have to be UT fans but they'll want their best players to come here to be developed and win!

HOT TAKE: A leading Heisman contender coupled with 5-star Arch Manning might win a Texas high school state title.
Burnt Orange Horn
So Blake, you are saying this is a high school that no one from the current Texas staff has visited? They do not seem to be 2A coaches to me, so I wonder if they do not have any highly touted players over the last few years? I wonder if you will get a call from Moncrief inquiring as to the identity of these guys? This is your best work yet! 🤘🏻🤘🏼🤘🤘🏽🤘🏾🤘🏿 Edited April 3 by Burnt Orange Horn 1

Haha. Obviously he didn’t mean having them on his room, but he was talking more about the depth and not much of a drop off from QB to QB.

They have some kids (one is a P4 signee), but not Texas level kids at the moment.

I enjoy this type of stuff because it’s not your typical “player x looks amazing.” It gives you a completely different perspective and a peek behind the curtain. 5

You'd be surprised. There's a 3-time Super Bowl mvp that couldn't get close to winning one.

Neil Leininger
Sarkisian at Texas is going to go on a run. Last year was just the tip of the iceberg IMHO. I think the next decade will surpass what Mack did, only because of the difference between the playoffs and the BCS, i.e. Sarkisian will have more chances because 12 >>> 2,
Jack Lala
Truly great stuff, Blake. A lot can be learned from coaches outside of a program and how they see things.

Always good to hear from someone in the know, but that has an outsiders perspective.
