BootHorn08 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I will take things that wont happen for $700. I am even skeptical about $60 million rosters. Look at the way top rosters churned out dead money last year 1 Quote
ArizonaLonghorn Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Basketball NIL also taking off. Article in today's Athletic titled "Want your men’s college basketball team to contend next year? It might take $10 million" (paywall). Top guy in this year's portal, Flory Bidunga (C), supposedly was asking for $5 million. Four years ago Nijel Pack, an All-Big 12 player at K-State but not considered a really big fish, signed with Miami for $800K over 2 years. In the current cycle a potential all-conference player could expect $3 million and above yearly (see screen grab below). Interesting article with a discussion about how the money is available but it's tricky to get it past the NIL Go clearinghouse auditors. Also, no evidence yet that the Big East will dominate given they don't need to spend most of the $20 million cap on football. Another tidbit - "Last July, when The Athletic polled 35 coaches, the average estimate to build a roster in the SEC was $9.7 million, and the other four high-major leagues were in the $8 million range." The part about how opaque the system is was interesting too, with too many poorly prepared 'agents' asking for outlandish numbers. Article mentions a blog by Evan Miya which "has data from 30 teams that input player salaries in his front office tool." He says NIL is up 65% for basketball this year over last year. This site is not behind a paywall, here's the link for those interested (I'm interested but haven't read it carefully yet, just skimmed it). Here's a screen grab from Athletic. Quote
harveycmd Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Gerry's right. This is pure BS. Don't pay if you don't want. Quote
harveycmd Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago @Gerry Hamilton I still wish you'd ask Raja Bell what Kobe and Iverson said to each other during this trash talk scene of game two of the 2001 NBA Finals. Quote
harveycmd Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I've read: Kobe: You know I'm the best player in the world, right? Iverson: You ain't the be best player on your team. Kobe: I'm whipping your ass. Iverson: You ain't got nothing. Kobe: You wanna play one on one after the game? Iverson: We won last game. Kobe You ain't winning now. You gonna play or not? Iverson: You stupid, man. Kobe: Just shut up and play me after the game. 1 1 Quote

harveycmd Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Current NBA hugs ass more than any pro sport in the history of the world. If Silver doesn't wake up soon, they'll be sniffin NHL ass. Quote
harveycmd Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago If you don't change the rules to get back to post and mid-range play, you're hosed. Eliminate the three the point shot. Go back to man defense rules. Quote
harveycmd Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Modern NBA fans express dissatisfaction due to lack of defensive play; no diversity in offensive play. Over reliance on offensive broke dick analyctics, and general stupid digital nonsense that has resulted in the worst professional basketball play in the history of the world. Quote
