The defense is going against a stout oline and 2 potential 1st rd QBs with plenty of weapons so the offense having success is exactly what I expected to happen. Yes, that’s what I hope. But if we are going to compete in the expanded playoffs we need a defense that can compete, regardless of Quinn’s ability.

No. The reports last year were consistent that the D line couldn’t be run against and that the defense looked good coming out of spring. Now they had Malik not Arch with the 2s so we see the difference. But the reports coming out were consistent and accurate from what we saw in the season.
Game of the Century
When you have to rely on sources rather than your own eyes, there’s always gonna be conflicting reports. I spent more than two decades as a reporter. Sources are very useful and some are better than others, but everything they say comes with the grain of salt. Can’t wait for the spring game so I can see it with my own eyes and more importantly, Hamilton, Burton, and Vogel Vogel, can see it with their own eyes
HookEm
Read that offense was using in helmet comms but the defense was not. This may have been part of the offensive edge but “run fits” are still a major issue.

I'm saying maybe don't ask questions like "has the defense regressed that badly??" based on a few lines of practice reports. But also, the offense is going to be very very good. If you're reading that it was a mixed bag, then that is generally probably a good thing for the defense. But, zero sum, you know.
bourbasted
4 hours ago, cdibbs said: I remember hearing this time last year the defense was looking better than the offense. Interesting development for sure. Do we think the defense has regressed that much or the offense is clicking more? Maybe both? Half way through spring practice, it's pretty early to be saying the defense has regressed. The only part of the defense that has potentially taken a step back is interior D-line which was to be expected with Sweat & Murphy heading to the NFL. All other areas of defense (based on reports here and other sites) have seen the secondary take a big step forward, the LB's are playing at a high level and the edges are better than they've been in years. I read scrimmage reports from three sites with most saying the defense won the day until the red-zone drills where the offense was very effective in scoring. As this was at the end of the day, some put this down to conditioning on the defense and some said the run-fits needed to be better. Regardless, none of this is overly concerning to me half way through spring ball. So I guess my answer to your question is, no, I don't think the defense has regressed that much. The offense is being led by an awesome O-Line, DEEP stable of quality RB's, and a 3rd year Heisman contender at QB. They will make a lot of reasonably good defenses look ordinary this year imho.

If we are trusting the guys to bring us information and their information has historically been accurate then it is relevant that last year the information they gave us in spring played out as the season progressed. So the question of has defense regressed is a fair question. The fact that the offense is "very, very good" does not take away form the fact that we will face "very very good offenses" next season and we want the defense to be able to keep up. Asking questions is how you answer them. Why would you be afraid of people asking questions? Edited April 7 by HookEm

Jarveaux
Extremely good to hear we are improving our red zone offense. In my opinion we will need touchdowns not FG’s next year to make the playoffs & then advance in playoffs. I believe our team is doing well at this point. What’s your thoughts CJ.? I heard Quinn was very efficient in the red zone yesterday and as a result the offense had plenty of success. Touchdowns will make all the difference this year and will turn close games into blow outs. So far, a step in the right direction for the development of the offense in the red area.

He is been so high on Clark from the start, that I am dying to see him.
