Why would Texas pay that to a kid who is going to have Tommy John and not play this season?

Former Longhorn Dee Kennedy, who transferred to Kansas State, just went in the fourth round (No. 114 overall) to the Cardinals.

It's a worthwhile gamble for the Astros. Unless there's a rule I'm unaware of regarding competitive balance picks, the Astros will get the pick back in 2027 if Peterson doesn't sign. So either they sign him, or they get the pick back (which they only got in the first place because Framber Valdez signed with the Tigers in free agency) next year.

Based on mock drafts and pre-draft rankings, it still feels like he went lower than expected. So this has got to be a small win for us, right?
