It depends on severity. It’s one of the few ankle sprains that full immobilization is recommended for the first few weeks even in mild cases. They tend to be recurrent so with a freshman back of his caliber I would hope and expect the staff to be conservative. 4-6 weeks at best and maybe 8 if they are worried about chronic instability. Severity matters. Imaging grade and clinical grade of severity are different.
