UT_Ro Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago 14 hours ago, Jeff Howe said: Wingo Block OU.mp4 21.14 MB · 0 downloads I started this play midway through the sideline view because I want you to watch Ryan Wingo and Hollywood Smothers. — If Wingo gets a clean block on the safety, does Smothers see it and bounce the run off Wingo's outside shoulder? If he does, he only has to deal with the safety and/or the corner. Instead, Smothers hesitates and falls into a 3-yard gain that could've gone for more. — Even then, Smothers probably could've bounced this off Wingo's block and picked up a first down (he might've had a one-on-one with Powers if Coleman had kept Haynes from getting in a position for a potential open-field tackle. Or if he hit his path hard off Nick Townsend's inside shoulder, he might've beaten the safety to the spot and picked up the first down. Regardless, Texas punted two plays later. — This is a bad run because it should've gone for more. This is what I'm talking about when I push back against the running game issues being all on the offensive line. This is on Smothers and/or Wingo, with a little blame assigned to Coleman, IMO. Smothers has to cut that outside doesn't matter about if Wingo gets a clean block or not, Wingo is in a good enough position to just be in the way if Smothers cuts that outside. 1 Quote
UT_Ro Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago @Jeff Howe imagine when Arch finally keeps it on a rpo or if Sark allows him too.. Good lord that's a lot of yards gained. Then defenses will have to straight keeping the edge or a LB home instead of just crashing on the RB. Just a thought from my office chair Quote

Deep in the heart Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago It seems like our OLine does a lot of catching instead of driving off the ball. They automatically get into a pass blocking set on run plays so it prevents them from getting any push. It's almost as if they are walling them off instead of trying to displace them. That's a technical problem. Our receivers, Coleman especially, are providing nothing in the run game. Great thread @Jeff Howe! Quote
JohnnyLawCleveland Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) We need one of the center or QB to be smarter. The last play you posted just seems to demonstrate we don’t have anyone very bright/attentive on offense to realize what is obvious and audible. Which is troubling, seeing as how we have veterans at both C and QB. Edited 4 hours ago by JohnnyLawCleveland Quote
watty7796 Posted 48 minutes ago Posted 48 minutes ago Robertson has been well below sub par...doesnt matter what kind of set up duo zone inside outside if 2 things do not happen. A clean snap snd the center can not be in the qbs lap. This screws up the mesh point, pushes inside runs out. If the defense sets the edge penalty or not that play is dead from the get go. If Texas wants to establish the run Robertson needs to be on the pine period. 2nd if Sark had any interest in slowing down lb fills or safety/corner blitz...throw a handful of screens, slow the fill and then maybe you wouldnt have 8 in the box. Another suggestion is roll Arch out. He is obviously having difficulty getting thru his read progression so why not divide that confusion by half. If nothing is there already outside of the tackle box throw the ball away or if its open green get up the field and slide to protect himself....none of this is rocket science. Quit making something simple into an unsolvable equation. Outside of that spread the d out so your offense has a bit more gap to work with. Quote
