Why would you intentionally put on the leadoff batter of an inning where you could get walked on? You have to pitch to her.

I wouldn't have especially that late in the game. If they brought in a fresh arm yeah, let it fly, but if you have the starting pitcher in I wouldn't. Turned out to be a critical mistake.
