OnTexasFootball provides the latest news and notes on defensive line recruiting to go with your Friday lunch. Kenny Baker’s known school stops since Tuesday Landon Rink, Cypress (Texas) Cy Fair High Texas offer: Yes Father Shane Rink played on the defensive line at Texas, and is the defensive line coach at Cy-Fair High. Rink attended Junior Day’s at Texas A&M, Texas and Oklahoma in January. Floyd Guidry, Spring (Texas) High Texas offer: Former DL coach Bo Davis offered December 19. Guidry attended Junior Day January 20. He’s gone from one Power 5 offer (Texas Tech) before the 2023 season to 14. He will attend Houston Junior Day February 3. Texas A&M jumped in with an offer last week. Chace Sims, Richmond (Texas) Randle Texas offer: No Texas invited the 6-3, 285-pounder to January 20 Junior day, but he did not attend. Sims will be at Texas A&M Saturday, and TCU and SMU Sunday. Carmello Brooks, Katy (Texas) Paetow Texas offer: Yes The 6-3, 270-pounder is a continued evaluation by the Texas staff. Zion Williams, Lufkin (Texas) High Texas offer: Yes Williams skipped Texas Junior Day January 20 to go to LSU. Texas, LSU, Texas A&M will be in an impactful East Texas battle with Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, etc… in the mix. Dilan Battle, Mansfield (Texas) Timberview Texas offer: Yes. Eau Gallie #AllGasNoBrakes Steve Sarkisian, Jeff Banks and Tashard Choice made a stop at Eau Gallie early in the week, which shows how valuable the 6-1.5, 285 pound explosive disruptor is to the Longhorns. Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted February 2 Author Moderators Share Posted February 2 Some people have asked me to rank in terms of my preference ... 1. Brandon Brown - just not many guys that will be 6-2, 300-pounds with his level of natural strength, first and second step explosive quickness and power, lateral agility and physicality on contact. Young for his class too. 2. Josiah Sharma - Love, love, love this offer. SEC body and frame with the length and athleticism to play on the opponents side of the line of scrimmage. 3. Zion Williams - A big body anchor prospect that can hold up in the SEC against large and athletic humans. There are better pure athletes in the class, but not many with the frame, 80+inch wingspan and willingness to learn and ascend like Williams. 4. Dilan Battle - Another 300 pound+ prospect that can play over the ball in the SEC, but he has the athletic juice to play as a 3-tech as well. Can be a disruptor. 5. Floyd Guidry - Naturally explosive and strong with a frame that is just starting to scratch the surface. Plus arm length for a 6-1.5/6-2 player. 6. Landon Rink - The motor is among the best in the class. Rugged, tough hard worker that is closing in on 280 pounds. Will carry 295'ish very well in time. ***IF Texas signed 3-4 from this group ... tremendous class IMO*** Some guys... need to see more.
Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted February 2 Author Moderators Share Posted February 2 One of the deeper defensive line classes in recent memory in the state of Texas. A lot of quality prospects at the position.
Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted February 2 Author Moderators Share Posted February 2 On defense in the state, linebacker is going to end up being terrific. So much more quality depth in the state at the position than a lot of recent classes.

Jbro52
@Gerry Hamilton how much did losing Robinson hurt the d line room
Moderators CJ Vogel Posted February 2 Moderators Share Posted February 2 Dilan Battle told me yesterday he has lost about 15 lbs since the beginning of his junior season. Said he is down to 300 pounds flat now.

And he was an early enrollee. I just never got the impression he was all in on being at Texas. He was coming to Texas because of Bo Davis. So from that perspective, don't think Texas lost much other than he has a lot of upside if it worked out.

Lnghrn
Given Sark visited Sanders seems like he is high on the board. Is it possible that Baker visited him during his swing through Houston.
Robert Gilbert
Love seeing Baker out on the recruiting trail. I believe that adding Baker and Nansen will elevate an already very good recruiting staff to a level of excellence (from top to bottom) never seen at UT before.
Jerry K
So that’s 14 offers all on the def side? The momentum Sark and staff has right now seems like they could get more than anticipated.

He's certainly got ability ... and he is a long ways away from a frame and technical standpoint. If he's a 4th in a class of four and it's a stash and dvelop scenario ... he has higher value for me.

Most players are gonna be put in a position to play in more space when they first arrive on campus and then move to a spot where their body and ability take them. Most DBs will start at CB or Nickel, some future Buck's will start at LB, Jack's will start at Buck and 3 tech types will start at Jack. NT and instant impact guys might start out at their more natural position right away. Simmons, Williams, Ant Hill (could move to buck at some point if Texas wanted too)
Hermanator
https://www.hudl.com/profile/16594800/Brandon-Brown Stuff like this makes me think the US should have a network of football prep academies similar to European soccer where guys who obviously are too big/strong/talented for ordinary high school go to get prepared for CFB. Brown's obviously out of the league of the regular Florida kids he's playing against. It does him a disservice to not be able to sharpen his skills against other elite players from around the country every day, and we can all see the level of disservice he's doing to kids who aren't within 1000 miles of him talent wise.
