Note on 2026 4-star safety Zelus Hicks

2026 4-star safety Zelus Hicks (Carrollton, Ga./High) is set to announce his college commitment September 12.

Hicks, 6-2'ish and 180, is down to Tennessee, Texas, Auburn, Georgia and Clemson. There is more chatter about Auburn, Texas and Tennessee as of this evening.

Also as of Tuesday evening, the Longhorns feel like they are very much in the race for the Peach State star.

Hicks made a visit to Texas this summer with his 7v7 team.

Hicks has 32 offers to date, including ten from the SEC.

This one will be interesting ... was told just now that at least one person very close to the Carrollton High program thinks Texas is at least 50-50 for Hicks.

Is this a recruitment that will be pretty locked down once he commits? Or too early to tell? Seems like a pretty early announcement so he must feel good about where he wants to go.

from the film, very good boundary safety that loves to come up the alley to stop the run. good blitzer from multiple spots. not so sure how great he is in coverage, not as much film, but he is fast and fluid to the ball. lined up in some cover 1, mostly at SS, but he plays on a very very good and talented team.

ive got the same question as @goattalk100, is this too early for a 2026 guy especially from that part of the world?

The answer is, we don’t know.

Some guys stick and some don’t. Statistically it’s a better than 70pct chance he sticks if you’re talking nation-wide and what recruits do.

For me, not many locked down commitments any more. As someone else said, he will be on campuses. A very early commitment like this puts the X on the school back he commits to. I always think about how many visit opportunities are in front of a kid that commits very early in Junior year: Saturday games, Junior days, spring practice UOV’s, June OV’s, last weekend in July, games senior season

Not to sound negative I’m not a fan of guys committing there Jr year. That’s a long time and seems most commitments don’t stick

With the exception of QB or a legacy type, tend to agree ... especially OOS national recruitments. But Texas has to take a national OOS guy if he wants in now.

Gerry, is Hicks reclassifying to the 2025 class.  There has been some chatter about that.
