rocketman Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 Spent some time yesterday watching Ole Miss vs Kentucky. Biggest takeaway is the OM defence. More spastically, their portal talent across the board on that side of the ball. I went to their website and noticed that almost all of that side of the ball played for someone else last year. Gerry didn't you mention that they had a lot of success in their talent acquisition due to increased portal budget increases. I would be interested in hearing what you guys think about their performance yesterday in general and specifically Walter Nolan III. He can be a load but seems to take a lot of plays off. Quote

Saban didn’t offer Walter Nolen as a high school senior Quote

Watched him for a bit and he made one wow play and then seemed to disappear. Ivey #15 was more disruptive and seemed to make more plays. Overall, signing and paying high end portal talent can be problematic if you sign the wrong guys. If the culture is bad and the buy in is only for the money they will look after their own best interest and not the team. Quote

Saban didn't offer every five star prospect, he was a top evaluator and not about accumulating talent, its about building a team. Some don't understand that. 1 Quote

horns96 Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 FSU and Mississippi may serve as examples of a future adage "You can't live in the portal". FSU has obviously hit big and whiffed badly on the strategy. Mississippi has a favorable schedule, if they can beat UGA, they'll be a SEC title contender and/or in the playoff.. 2 Quote

So you’re going to disregard everyone else FSU hit on that got them to be undefeated last year and a Jordan Travis injury away from a playoff? 1 Quote

Auntie, chill. I'm talking about this year, where they tried to catch lightning in a bottle in consecutive years... Edited September 30, 2024 by horns96 Quote
