How I Would Rank Them

I always get asked how I would rank the Texas recruits within the recruiting class. I've been doing this for 20+ years now.

I've gotten some right and some wrong. So don't take what I say or how I rank these players as the gospel. It's just another man's opinion based on what I've seen and what I've been told.

2024 Texas Recruits

1. WR, Ryan Wingo

2. Edge, Colin Simmons

3. S, Xavier Filsaime

4. OL, Brandon Baker

5. CB, Wardell Mack

6. OL, Daniel Cruz

7. RB, Christian Clark

8. TE, Jordan Washington

9. Edge, Zina Umeozulu

10. QB, Trey Owens

11. RB, Jerrick Gibson

12. OL, Nate Kibble

13. DL, Alex January

14. LB, Tyanthony Smith

15. CB, Kobe Black

16. WR, Parker Livingstone

17. S, Jordon Johnson-Rubell

18. DL, Melvin Hills

19. WR/ATH, Aaron Butler

20. CB, Santana Wilson

21. P, Michael Kerns

22. WR, Freddie Dubose Jr. (inj.)

Note: I'm interested to see if Dubose heals further from his injury. I would rate him differently if I knew that for sure.

Love our class. Just love, love, love our class. I think all have the potential to contribute. I don’t see any obvious reaches, which is rare.

That being said I’d move Kibble, Gibson, JJR, and Hills down

I’d move Wilson, Butler, and Smith up. Hot take: wouldn’t surprise me to see Wilson as the best corner from this class.

Keep in mind, this is just one man’s opinion. Granted Bobby has more experience in this type of evaluation than all of us combined but he is not infallible, as he has said. However, I would tend to go with his opinion over my own observations. When it comes right down to it, this is a beauty contest. Do you like blondes or brunettes? Do you prefer size in a WR or speed? Beatles or the Rolling Stones?

Well, it's really not a beauty contest. It's who can get it done or who can't. I think Butler can get it done. And we'll all be happy. Heck Jaden Alexis had speed, but couldn't get it done.

That's just one man's opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

We’ll look back on this list years from now and I’ll remember putting Ryan Wingo no. 1. Hope he proves me right.

Do you think he gets some good PT next year?

I fear he will grow restless and portal back to Mizzou.

Butler and Zina should be higher IMO.

I do think he will … reason being is spring football, and Wingo has the size/speed combo others don’t have at the position.

A big time WR playing meaningful reps as a freshman for Sark all comes down to learning a complex and demanding position in the scheme. It’s a lot to take in for a freshman WR. If he does that and can play with athletic freedom vs thinking causing robotic movement at times, Wingo will play - even with the portal additions.

Yes, I think he'll play. How much, I don't know. But definitely more than Cook this past year, for example.

I think he's a mismatch issue.

Black at 15 is going to raise some eye brows. Do you have here, because you have doubts he sticks at CB? (Long speed?)

Bobby- Can you please go in-depth on your evaluation of Kobe Black , where you have him is closer to a high three star than a high four. Do you view him as a safety?

On the plus side, I think he's an elite athlete. Truly elite.

On the negative side, he's not a 4.4 guy at corner, he's more of a physical style guy. And he's also already fairly big and looks to be getting bigger. I don't know that a guy his eventual size stays at corner, not without top-end speed.

So my biggest concern is not his athleticism or his skills, it's that his body type may just end up a tweener of sorts.
