This season will all come down to ... can Texas score the ball at a high enough clip in the SEC. I have my doubts - as of today. Texas is not putting enough pressure on quality opponents off the ball.

All the defense and rebounding talk won't make a s&%t if you can't score the ball in the 70's consistently in conference play.

Even if you play really good D in theory ... the SEC top tier teams are going to score 70+ ... can you match?

This is all about the ability to score in the 70's to win games, and even in the low 80's on occasion when pushed to the max.

Have to find a way to pass better with Tre starting. I would try having Tre bring the ball up. It would help spread the floor more for Pope, Mark and a few others. Kaluma and Tre have developed some chemistry. You can see them talking a lot during time outs.

I don’t think he settled but that’s debatable.

He ended up in PR situation. I knew it as did many that we would just have to wait it out before we could get serious. RT would never have been on a long list if circumstances were different.

UAPB was obviously completely overmatched so can’t use it as TOO much of a barometer, but I think that game showed we have so much more potential as a run and gun up-tempo team. Let Pope and Larry push the ball up (even after a make) and let Tre, Tramon, Arthur, Chendall, etc fill the wings and attack before defense is set. KenPom has us 213th in adjusted tempo and feel like if we want to reach our potential we should be close to top 50. We have a bunch of upperclassmen that are used to playing with the ball in their hands and 20 more games isn’t enough time to learn how to effectively play off the ball in the half court (especially when a freshman is the one with the ball in his hands the majority of the time).

I suppose it is obvious that Texas must execute better in the half court offense.  In fact, RT called the team on it after UCONN.

Now IMO UCONN is really well coached, up there with the best coached teams of recent years.  They run their offense patiently and crisply and either find a back door cut or an open three.  Very smooth, have been against everyone for three seasons now.

Also IMO RT is a good coach.  Not in Hurley's class, but as Jordan has iterated and reiterated Texas did not have that class of coach available to it.  I think RT is better than the the two coaches since RB left.  I think he has a good staff and recruits well.  I think he teaches fundamentals and with a willing audience that has worked together for awhile he gets good results.

Some have pointed to his overall record as a negative, but in fact he improved every program he joined, quite noticeably.

The one real possibility that Texas could have as RT approaches or passes 60 YO is a young up and coming coach.  We tried that after RB and it did not work out.  But we are not coaxing Coach K our of retirement, or Wright, or stealing Hurley.

If you are a critic of RT and actually think you know something about basketball watch a lot of games and find us a young up and coming coach who has led his guys to play complementary ball together for four or five consecutive seasons.  Don't whine, educate yourselves and the rest of us.

This is part of the problem. It was a special circumstance, so using the traditional list of candidates to say he’s not qualified holds no water. There was a special circumstance so it does make sense. I have never bought the PR issue. How does it look  bad for Texas? There is no solid fan base, so who does it look bad to? And if say Mark Few was available, does CDC say no to him, because it looks bad to ….who?

I have looked at RT providing a bridge or stability for that twenty year coach. He is pushing sixty.

I haven’t seen anything to make me optimistic at this point.

Pretty let down to this point. Texas shouldn’t be behind A$M in hoops. Ou with a big turnaround in one year. Moser was in deep crap and has them in the top 15.

Take your example. Did you see anything optimistic in Moser his first two years? I certainly didn’t. How is Texas behind A&M? Moser was given time and is showing he knows what he is doing. RT has Texas with back to back tournament wins in over a decade.

Not until mid-January at earliest ... last I asked.

Will double check

Man is redshirting possible?

This is on RT for not getting another big man. I don’t want him to start using that as an excuse, which he kind of did recently. Kent was hurt in a game they were up by thirty in.

If he can't play because of injury, he can get a medical hardship.

But F that.  He is needed BADLY this year.
