Wright is a waste of time, he has made it clear he is not coming back. Texas reached out to him before they hired Shaka and he wasn’t interested.

A phone call doesn’t cost anything. I’d just make him say no.

With revenue sharing (if it goes into effect) taking over most of money providing for football, I think if there was a time to shift more additional money into basketball , post april (final approval hearing) would be the time to do so.

According to the UTSA AD revenue sharing will most likely be approved April 7th with January 1, 2026 being the start date.

Interesting, I have heard July 1st, 2025 as the effective date staffs are planning for, every single NIL contract from the end of season to now was created with acting on the basis that the revenue sharing money would be on hand by then.  Could blow up in everyones face, no collective (even onefund) would survive that happening.

Golden will get another raise from Florida after this season, and he won't leave a school that completely had his back when a Title IX investigation hit.

Wonder if your date is something like that is when you can officially start setting up the contracts or whatever but payments will start on the January date she referenced? I do like that I am hearing Texas One Fund will still function in terms of NIL for athletes to sweeten pots and keep Texas at the top of the chain when it comes to revenue sharing and NIL opportunities.

He didn't quit Villanova because he wanted to move. He quit because he didn't want to do the new college game.

Would be an amazing hire, but he doesn't like the current era of college MBB with NIL and such.  Would be shocked if he coaches anywhere ever again, unless CDC has a way with words to convince Wright and the BMDs to make this happen.

100%

And Florida is a better hoops job, if we're being honest.

The other thing to consider if Texas goes the route of 16-18 mill a year all in...

1. Texas currently makes money on hoops

2. Texas would very likely be in the red in hoops ... unless they jack up ticket and concession prices.

Yes, they'd be going red in revenue sport, and for what? What outcome makes that worth it? There is no guaranteed championship at the end.

They make money, yes. If they were winning and had full house and Moody rocking they'd make even more. You have to spend to make IMO. Settling or constraining the hiring because of initial dollars is a recipe for mediocrity.

The Moody is already selling out ... in terms of tickets sold. Some empty seats affect concession sales, but not enough to off set a 16-18 mill all in in that type scenario

They would have to jack up ticket and concession prices quite a bit to keep hoops in the black.

I'm an interested observer

Then raise ticket prices if need be, so long as we produce winning basketball fans will pay the cost. I just think in revenue sharing era CDC cannot and will not allow the second biggest generator of revenue struggle because of money. I think he'll open the rolodex and do what needs to be done to get a dang good basketball coach. He needs basketball to be a top 10 product to increase revenue as much as possible. Perhaps I'm naïve about the whole thing but RT wasn't a typical CDC hire due to non-typical circumstances and we were able to save a lot of money by not having to pay Beard's buyout.

A better team = higher ticket prices

Gerry do you see a scenario where we let Terry coach one more year and we pull a LSU and give him a some money to get some actual bigs and a PG who knows how to run an offense?

Does his buyout go down by much if we do that?

Right now I estimate his buyout to be about ~$4.5 million. If it is structured like most other coaches in the industry I think that value goes down after a specific date, usually April 1 through June 1. I don't know the specific terms of that buyout but I'd imagine after a target date post season into the spring that buyout drops from that ~$4.5 million to something like ~$3 million

I don't see another year - as of today
