Texas job better than Xavier, but not better than Duke, Kentucky, or Kansas

Might not be that hot of a take, but while Texas (or any SEC job) has more resources and leverage because of football money, some solely basketball schools (because of history and wins) are still better head coaching jobs than Texas.

Texas basketball is a top 15-20 job in the country. That's where I have always been and remain. Rick Barnes gave it the look of a top 10-12 job for about a decade.

Good discussion ... Current list (different from traditional list) ... tradition, talent pool to recruit from, fan base, NIL, conference future set up, etc...

I think the Big East schools with have a big opportunity with the new salary structure. Most of them have marginal football programs and and spend way more on basketball.

They definitely will ... but the SEC is out to be the best too. Things will "get done" IMO

Then why does Tech have a better program? It’s not just coaching.

Texas is down to their last two dollars in NIL.  They will never be elite in MBB like they are in WBB apparently

Need a coach that can catch up the modern game of basketball. Lowkey this been my play style on NBA2k and NBA Live since 1995.

Maybe Xavier in there somewhere. They have been consistently pretty good like Creighton.  (And we just stole their coach we can give them some love) 😂

Obviously no one is ever getting him, but any idea what the starting point on Izzo would be?

As I understand it, the House settlement provides both an absolute $ cap and a % of athletic revenue cap for NIL spending.  Big East schools don't make big football $, so none of them should be able to spend 8 figures without going way over the % cap.  Last Big East basketball TV deal was for $80 million a year for the conference, which has 11 members.  Not getting anyone past the round of 32 won't help either.

Of course, the Big East is not a defendant in the case, so it would have to opt in, and I haven't heard that it has.

There's no reason Texas shouldn't be a top 25 team every year.  If Tillman Fertitta can build UH into a perennial Sweet 16 contender, we can at least aspire to get back to Barnes' standard.

Would that make you happy?

And with CDC at the helm, there's no reason he can't raise the standard of the MBB program like he has for the other 20 sports on campus.

This take is a bit dire.  Beard was given all the resources to be elite...and I have all the confidence in the world that Miller will also.  Our long term interim coach didn't get the same respect, nor should he have.  His record was sub-par in ALL stops prior for a program with UT type status and money.

Agreed but don't shoot the messenger.  I think Texas cares more about hoops than most think.  If they didn't, WBB wouldn't be making their 4th Elite Eight appearance in 5 years.

I think Texas of all the schools you list has the best job to jump up in status. Kind of crazy how UCONN was before 1999....and I look at them as something Texas should strive for in basketball. Your run always has to start somewhere and I think with Texas resources and this era once we get our first we could eventually rip off some titles over the course of the next decade or two.

UCONN before 1st title:

E8 - 1964, 1990, 1995, 1998
S16 - 1951, 1956, 1964, 1976, 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1996*, 1998,

Texas
FF - 1943, 1947, 2003
E8 - 1939, 1943, 1947, 1990, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2023
S16 - 1960, 1963, 1972, 1990, 1997, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2023

Kind of crazy how they look when you put perspective.
