Steve Sarkisian Media Availability (Tuesday, August 5th)

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is speaking with the Austin media Tuesday evening following the second full-padded practice of fall camp.

The Longhorns are battling some depth issues at the offensive line and Sarkisian will be addressing the position for the first time since the injury to Andre Cojoe.

Sarkisian says it’s been a really solid first six practices. 

Texas was in half pads yesterday and full pads today for clarification on the intro to the post.

“There is a reason why we practice in the afternoons, because I believe it helps develop that mental toughness.” Says Sark

Sarkisian joked that he would have a better chance finding a tackle prospect at the Co-Op than in the portal currently.

Sarkisian was asked who had the hit of the day. 

“there wasn’t just one shot — but it was physical.”

Sarkisian with heavy praise for the SEC’s physicality and says he feels like his team came up with solid physicality today in full pads.

Sark: “We have to learn to deal with disappointment. Not every play is going to go perfect.”

Offensively, he said, there’s too much of letting one play impact the next.

Sarkisian says he left practice yesterday and QB Arch Manning had the offense on the field running one final walk through. 

Sark adds that is just who he is.

“We’ve been good,” Sark said regarding quarterback ball security in camp. “Yesterday wasn’t our best day.”

Sark really talking up how well the secondary is playing the ball.

Sarkisian says Manny Muhammad had a few picks yesterday. Jelani McDonald had one today, and Warren Roberson made plays. 

Sark says the defensive secondary is doing a fine job of playing the ball.

Today was a heavy red zone day for the offense today.

Sark said they wanted an experienced, productive tight end out of the portal, which is why they went and got Jack Endries.

That Endries can be a red-zone weapon is a bonus.

“Emmett, I’m impressed with. He is a bigger guy that you think. Even for me.”

Sark says he’s 210 pounds. 

“everything about him is probably better than you think.”

Sark said Jordan Washington and Emaree Winston had some nice plays in the red zone yesterday.

DJ Campbell is back at practice. Sark said Ryan Wingo needed another day.
