Pete Golding apparently has won the team over. I don’t see them going far in the playoffs. Question is, does the committee punish them for it?

The committee won’t punish the players because a coach leaves.

Don’t know why he’d wanna do that . He made his intentions clear about not wanting to coach in the SEC when OU announced the move. I wonder if he’d go to Penn State if Deboer doesn’t go.

Things changed fast - he went to USC where he thought he could cruise in the then PAC-12 which is basically now the Big 10. He could run but he could not hide from playing in one of the 2 big boy conferences

Once more, what could he have done differently?

Once more?  First time you’ve asked me.  But if I had to pick the scummiest I’d say:

* recruiting certain OM players to LSU before the egg bowl took place

* giving an ultimatum to leave on the plane or forget being on his coaching staff after taking two weeks to tour other campuses and be wined and dined by admin.

You don’t think other schools are already reaching out to those guys? And once he was told to leave, he needed to build a staff. Would it have been any better if he had them stay if they were going to move on eventually? Think those guys who’d be ultimately leaving would be doing some poaching? Think Mateer ended up at OU by coincidence when his OC moved?

This stuff happens all the time and everywhere. I’ll bet even Sark, Banks, etc, made a few whispers to players wondering about their future at Bama.

I couldn’t care less about Lane relative to any other coach who doesn’t work for us. I hope he fails miserably at LSU as it may open things up more for us in that state.

I’m just wondering how he’s so different than virtually every other coach out there. They’re all in it for themselves.

Let’s not get all in our feels over an ole miss coach leaving for LSU. Sheesh.

Got it.  The guy who has some of the most toxic exits/firings of any coach in any sport is just like the rest.  Just a coincidence the toxicity just keeps following him again and again (and again and again and again).

edit:  forgot to add another again.

I think if CFB had a more sensible calendar we could better distinguish it. Which was my original point. Given the calendar there’s little time to make moves when won’t be detrimental to the other school.

And ole miss and their culture is not one I’ll cry for, either.

I'll give you that the NCAA calendar and lack of oversight involving tampering of players and coaches didn't help at all. There were many openings and by in large the coaches handled it professionally and didn't turn this into a soap opera. Kiffin has a history of these types of shenanigans and hasn't learned from his previous experiences.

I’m willing to bet it’s pretty damn common. Otherwise he wouldn’t be earning lottery money today.

Well your original point was the calendar was the only reason this situation happened.  Not that it played a role (which is a much better and obvious statement).
