  1. Well, it could have been considered a '"family event" if the young man was accompanied by a family member. Or 11 family members as we have seen at Texas before!!! Of course we'd like a coveted recruit to give a silent commitment on his first visit to the Forty Acres and stick with it until signing day. These days that seems rare. I remember how Mack didn't want his recruits to take other visits after an "understanding," but these days I personally feel better about a guy who has taken visits to his top 2-3 offers... perhaps that kid is less likely to hit the portal out if things don't go as he expected.
  2. Yeah...it was about to be over at 4th and 13 and it would have been ugly. Quinn recognized, reset and made the throw and Golden made sure of the reception. OL blocked every rush lane. TD on 4th and 13... relief and highlight. Hook 'Em!
  3. So Mom's an Aggy?! Hook 'Em from your new family...
  4. My daughter was born in April after the last Cowboys Super Bowl 1995. She'll be 30 this year. She graduated from UT in 2017. I left a long post today about going to Super Bowl VI in NOLA in 1972... Dallas 24 and Miami 3. Long time ago. The Longhorns will win 2+ Natty's before the Cowboys win another SB I'm sure! Glad to have you Jeff... followed you for years.
  5. Yes! In1972, High School senior sitting in study hall reading the Wall Street Journal. Advertisement for Super Bowl tickets in WSJ from Murray's Tickets in Los Angeles. Typical high school stuff... looked at my buddies and said "let's go to the super bowl and see the Cowboys!" Called Murray and everything was far too expensive for us... Murray called me at home that night and said he wanted to help us "kids "out. He got 4 end zone tickets from the LA Rams and said we could have them for face value. $55 to sit in the end zone seemed like a lot back then. The fun started when I told my Dad my buddy James and I had gone to the Bank and purchased a cashier's check and sent it to Murray in LA for the Super Bowl tickets. Murray promised to mail the tickets to me when he got the cashier's check. My late father was pretty cool... but he went nuts and said James and I were idiots. Well, Murray was legit and an oversized brown envelope arrived with the oversized cool looking SB tickets. Airline travel was expensive back then and all the Motel 6 locations and every other budget motel was overbooked. We drove from Dallas to NOLA in James' father's station wagon with our other buddies Joe and Mickey. Slept in Audubon Park. Afternoon kick at Tulane Stadium and it was sunny and 36 degrees. Mick made a sign "Dolphin Soup For Supper" and we stood near the front of the team buses. The Miami players were very big and not amused! We asked people to see their tickets... like what if Murray was a counterfeit kinda guy? Tickets were legit. Dallas 24 and Miami 3. Staubach over Griese. Landry over Shula. Don Shula. A lifetime memory. So when I gave up on the Cowboys after they dogged the home Wild Card game last year...I said goodbye to a life of pulling for the Boys. Just sad. BTW, I looked up the present value of $55 in '72... now $425. Shows how much SB tickets have skyrocketed. Thanks for reading! Hook 'Em!
  6. Thanks Horns96! Autocorrect got me...*tuned in, not "turned" in. One of my lifetime high school senior memories is scraping together $55 for an end zone ticket for Super Bowl VI in NOLA. Pre-Superdome. My buddies and I slept in the Ford Station Wagon in Audubon Park after driving from Dallas. Loved the Boys... pretty sad now. Best wishes to you! Hook 'Em!
  7. I hit a wrong key just now and wiped out my long history with the Cowboys since 1960. Yes, 1960! Mercifully for all the OTF readers I won't start over! Agree with Horns 96 and it was painful after the no-show performance against the Pack at home after the '23 season. That's when I stopped caring about Jerrah's Boyz. Didn't watch a single snap this past '24 season. I'll watch the Super Bowl just because but I have lost my zest for the NFL for several reasons. When I turned in a couple of times and saw the ridiculous new kickoff formation it was the final straw. Even with NIL and all the changes in CFB I still love the Longhorns and the game of college football. Hook 'Em Horns!
  8. He's going Fishin' and Huntin' with Jimbo on his private reserve properties!!!
  9. Jeff is a great guy and genuinely human fellow. The OTF lineup is the best as it is, but adding Jeff would put OTF even further out ahead of all the rest. Hook 'Em!
  10. I'm sure all Longhorns everywhere send their condolences. God Bless Dave and those who knew him and loved him. Hook 'Em Forever And Always.
  11. Going way way back, I was at the OU game in 1984. Texas had the ball at the Sooners 2 yard line with seconds left on the clock and tried dives into the line for no gain. BTW the game was played in a Thunderstorm. The Longhorns ran a pitch out wide right. Texas RB (Kevin? From Houston) took the pitch and sprinted to the right corner. High risk, high reward. Oklahoma DBs met him a foot outside of the pylon and all three players disappeared out of bounds in a huge splash of water on the old artificial turf at the Cotton Bowl stadium. Game ended with score tied. The last time game I ever sat through a tie game. And the wettest I ever got watching a Texas game. And the pitch out didn't work that game either. Hook 'Em!
  12. Last year it was an incredibly hot QB... hottest I ever remember. This year it was a hot team. I've never been a Notre Dame fan but I will be next week. Hook 'Em!
  13. Yes, thanks! A personal note... I had a family member in Hospice care from July to December. The OTF daily material on YouTube gave me something to take my mind off the bad stuff and to remind me that College Football can serve many purposes. Bobby and crew are great and much appreciated and enjoyed. Hook 'Em!
  14. Speaking of former Bama players... I thought I saw where Agiye Hall was knocking on Kalen's door. If true that takes some chutzpah.
  15. Before Quinn was injured in the '22 game against Bama he looked elite. He looked the same in beating Bama in Tuscaloosa in '23... An outstanding accomplishment. The two long bombs he threw were college QB perfection. Then this season at the Big House he looked like a Heisman favorite. Injuries and the football gods conspired to hold him one step short of the top. And perhaps one bad coaching call on D and one on O didn't help either. James Street and Vince Young sit on that top step but they don't have to look down very far to see #3. Thanks and Hook 'Em!
  16. Agree and thanks to Quinn. I remember when Simms committed. In those days I had to call into Robert Heard's or Jerry Scarborough's 900# for the daily commitments. Yikes! Here's hoping Arch turns out to be great. His performance and demeanor along with his team spirit have him off to a good start. Hook 'Em!
  17. Seems like this young man is taking lots of visits. Must be nice to be in such demand. Could be helpful if it all worked out. Any word on why he's leaving SC?
  18. Speaking of Rick Barnes... I'd take him back in a heartbeat. I was sure Shaka was going to work out...he does everywhere but Austin. We were aligned to be a top program until Beard until let his domestic emotions get the better of him. RT is OK but it just doesn't have the feeling that success is around the corner. CDC? Do you keep a list in your top desk drawer? Hook 'Em!
  19. Agree! I'm a Longhorns fan since 1968 and in the post-Royal years Texas has always tended to be a speed and finesse team except for the years they lacked speed! The 2005-6 team had the most physically aggressive approach and won the Natty. Don't get me wrong... I'm happy because the decade after Mack was so painful and Sark's teams are doing better but still not dominant. But, Sark does need to get physical on the goal line with the OL and he needs to recruit a "Hammer" RB like 6'2" and 240. Or while he's got Arch he might adopt the Philly style QB sneak. Thanks for a great season and a special thanks to Bobby and his OTF team. OTF has become so good I no longer go to any other Texas sports sites. Hook 'Em! And for the first time I have ever said this: Go Notre Dame! Wake Up The Echoes!
  20. Well - blocked. Good adjustments. Excellent execution under pressure. Years ago when Manny Diaz was DC for Texas I was sitting in the north end zone at the Cotton Bowl for the OU game. OU had the football at their own 5 yard line right in front of us. They hit a running play a bit like this Texas play against ASU. They snapped the ball and as the RB took the handoff I saw three blocks develop and I heard three pops in order. Pop (block), Pop (block) and Pop (block) and the OU RB took it 95 yards to the south end zone. It was really great to watch the Horns recognize the ASU defense, adjust and execute. After the lost decade of Texas football I appreciate what the Longhorns have done in the '23 and '24 seasons.
  21. Thanks...I guess! I went to the 1970 Cotton Bowl as a high school junior and I graduated from UT in 1976 and 1978. So I qualify for being both old and an alum. I've been to four Longhorns Cotton Bowl games...none at Jerry World. I'm sentimental about it and wish the game was still at the old stadium. I think the Texas-Nebraska ( the Huskers were in the Big 8 conference then) and the Houston -Notre Dame Cotton Bowls were played in unusually cold weather and those games laid the groundwork for the game to be played at Jerry World decades later. Hook 'Em!!!
  22. I noticed Bobby said that after Texas won the SWC and NC for the 1969 season and the 1970 Cotton Bowl...the teams finishing #2-#4 in the final AP poll are the same teams playing in this year's CFP final four. Some of the true Blue Bloods of CFB. The 1970 Cotton Bowl was a big deal at the time mainly because Notre Dame had a policy of not participating in Bowl Games back then and made an exception to play #1 Texas in Dallas.
  23. Agree with you on this matter of personal and/or over -the-top criticism of college players. I know I am old and Old School on this, but even with players receiving NIL money, I think it's unbecoming behavior. Especially when you are allegedly a fan of a player or his team. Placekicking is like golf or even hitting a baseball. Mechanics and psychology involved and it's not as easy as it appears. And once you get into a slump it can be difficult to break out and get back into the groove. I'm pulling for Auburn and wish him the best but at the same time it's pretty clear he's fallen into the yips. Fingers crossed.
  24. Yormark called Kevin Mar and went with Kevin's opinion. It was a wash...if they didn't call it when Bond was decapitated...then they called it correctly with Taafe.
