Tolerance for college football woes is waning
Jc Dobbs replied to Junior's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I quit the Dallas Cowboys after they were a no-show at home vs the Packers and their rookie QB. And I had been a Cowboys fan since childhood. I was turned off by the NFL's venture into Wokeness and I haven't watched Pro football since I stopped caring about the Cowboys. I tried to watch but discovered I no longer cared. I haven't watched an NBA game in many years after following the League since I was a youngster. Same for MLB... last game I recall watching was when the Texas Rangers were one strike away from winning the World Series. So CFB and the Longhorns have been my refuge. I still watch Nowhere State play Whattsamotta U on TV. Some of the things about the new landscape of CFB bother me but so far I am still caring. I'm retired now and I realize I'm no longer in the target audience for Pro sports but as College sports moves more and more into the professional mode I will hang in as long as I still enjoy the College games and I'm a Texas Ex, so I will always love the Longhorns. Looks suspiciously like Southlake Russia! Out here in SW Ft Worth about 40 mi away, we got a dusting on the shores of Benbrook Lake... Oh Well, Hook 'Em! -
OK, well you are now! That's good enough and close enough for me!!! That was a great Moment! Hook 'Em! And best wishes to you from frigid DFW!

Or maybe Vonlane.... PS, I remember a Longhorns player making a great fumble recovery in a big game at the Cotton Bowl Stadium. I was sitting by former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk on a VIP (not me!) bus back to Downtown after the game. Ron Kirk ( a UT Law grad I think) said it was "perfect that a player named 'Bubba' won the game for Texas!" Hook 'Em!

The current CFB season format just doesn't feel like it's the best college football could offer. Mainly the Championship game happens too late after a long season and the conference championship games seem to only be important to the teams that need to win those games or miss out on the playoffs. Given the current "leadership" of CFB and the demands of the BIG Ten, I'm not optimistic that we'll see significant changes in the near term future.

Schlossnagle talks Jonah Williams plan for spring
Jc Dobbs replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
RIP James Street. On the national TV broadcast of the game at #2 Arkansas on ABC, the late Chris Schenkel called him "Jimmy Street," and made him sound like a junior high kid. He was an outstanding Senior QB and Pitcher for the University of Texas. Some media types called him James "Slick" Street because of his ball handling skills as UT's Wishbone QB and his super confident demeanor. Street played an outstanding game in Fayetteville in December, 1969, leading the #1 Longhorns to the National Championship over the Razorbacks in what was called "The Big Shootout." I was a high school freshman on a losing football team and although I was already a Longhorns fan, after watching that game on TV with my late father, I told him I wanted to go to Texas. Knowing I couldn't play college football at the Southwest Conference level, I just wanted to sit in the Student Section at Memorial Stadium and cheer for Texas and players like James Street. Hook 'Em OTF! -
My youngest child was born in the last year the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl. She graduated from UT in '17 and will be 31 this year. I grew up in the 1960s and was a big Cowboys fan. My father took me to see them play the Browns in the Cotton Bowl Stadium and Bob Lilly and Jim Brown got tossed for fighting that day. As a high school senior, I saved from working after school and summer jobs and went to SBVI in NOLA. Cowboys 24 Dolphins 6. End zone ticket cost me $55. When the Cowboys were a total No-Show at home against Green Bay in the playoffs...I declared the end of my Dallas Cowboys fandom. I haven't watched a single snap since and from what I can gather, I haven't missed anything. But I started with the Longhorns in 1968, graduated in '76 and '78 and I will never leave Horns. Hook 'Em!

Commit and stick with it unless you are treated unfairly or someone else offers significantly more compensation.

To me, there's a significant "enjoyment of Life" value to spending a year as Arch Manning's buddy and to ride the train looking to improve and play for Championships while being paid reasonably well. But, if you measure everything in Life by Dollar Signs... you take the money, I suppose. And I have always heard that the biggest ego on a football team belongs to the WR.

1991 Bowl Memory: Lessons Learned
Jc Dobbs replied to Purplehorn3's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I was at that Cotton Bowl game in 1984 and had a great (?!) view of Craig Curry's muffed punt return. Tight, tense, close game. Curry dropped the punt and the wind left the Longhorns' sails. Couple of plays later and Georgia scored on a running play off Right Tackle that the Texas Defense had been stopping for 3.5 quarters. That loss cost us the National Championship. Hook 'Em! Forever! PS... I was also at the 1991 game and it was a No-Show for Texas, much like the '25 game in Gainesville. -
Would you pay $1200/year for true insider team info?
Jc Dobbs replied to TexShoe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Rumor circulating that Cody Campbell saw the A$M "Inside Information" was $100-$200/month. The New "Cody's Pipeline" is $1k/month and all the proceeds go to the Techsters NIL fund. Guardrails? CFB Commissioner? Or perhaps fans would like to see the Congress pass the "SCORE Act" or whatever Cody and friends are calling it now?! -
Bobby... You are correct and I hit the "Sad" icon because it just strikes me as sad. Maybe a Psychologist could explain the mindset of someone who could make up stuff and put it on social media for kicks. Or maybe it's the Aggy IT Department... Hook 'Em! And Merry Christmas to everyone at OTF!

I have thought the same thing about him recently. Take his weight and add in the stress of being the Head Aggy and a big deal in the Cult that worships a Collie and it can't be good for his health. Makes me wonder if the team physician has ever spoken to him. If Coach Saban had the same attitude at Alabama, Sark might not be walking the sideline at DKR these days. Saban insisted that the team physicians give the entire coaching staff annual exams and periodic checkups. They caught Sark's heart problem early and saved him with surgery. I've posted snarky things here about Elko, but I am human. He doesn't look healthy to me but I am not a doctor. I really hope he takes the steps necessary to live a long time so the Aggys can continue their mediocrity.

Even better than the best blended Scotch whisky!

If reports are true that Color Me Elko is despondent after losing to Miami... He might not eat for an entire hour. Hook 'Em!

Speaking of Ole' Spyin' Barry Switzer... I saw him on the TV coverage of the Alabama game last night and wow, Barry's got a lotta miles on him. I almost tuned out at 17-0 because I said "I'm not gonna watch this"... glad I hung in because I enjoyed watching zero U getting worse with each passing minute. You are correct about a portion of the Mobilehoma fans...saw them again last night on the broadcast... they have a certain kind of look about 'em!

Several years ago Texas won the RRR and my buddy treated my Ex and me to a post-game dinner at Morton's in downtown Dallas. The waiter told us he was sorry, but the restaurant staff always favored the Sooners. He said when OU wins, their more fortunate fans extend their stay until Sunday and enjoy expensive dinners and wine. He said otoh, the Texas fans show up in just about the same numbers regardless of the outcome of the game. The RRR game is still my all time favorite. Hook 'Em!
-
The one time the Texas Defense frustrated me to the max was when the Horns kicked what should have been the winning FG vs OU... and bent so much with very little time left that the Longhorns lost. Hook 'Em!

C.J Vogel's Dating Red Flags And Football Recruiting
Jc Dobbs replied to Purplehorn3's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Well, that just about covers it! I didn't choose wisely when I didn't propose to my GF from UT. When she heard I was engaged she showed up at my workplace in Downtown Houston (she lived in Dallas) and tried to talk me out of my mistake. I felt like I had "given my word" and couldn't go back on the engagement... even though I really wanted to. 21 years later I got divorced because my Ex was just always unhappy about something or other. I do have a daughter who graduated from UT in 2017 and is engaged to a young man I like, so it wasn't a total loss. My GF from UT days is still married and doing well. My Ex got remarried within a couple of years. I never even went out on a coffee date because I just prefer living the single life. Your post is excellent and your man is fortunate to have you. We all have one thing in common. We love the Longhorns, so Hook 'Em!!! -
Sergio Kindle’s hit on Taylor Potts

A close second was the shoulder shot laid on Gunner what's his name by Mukuba. A minor miracle that he hung on to the football. And a sub-minor miracle that Georgia didn't have to turn to their QB 3. Hook 'Em! -
Does Coach Boom get a billboard?! Hook 'Em! PS...Is this Head Coach in waiting Part Deaux?!

C.J Vogel's Dating Red Flags And Football Recruiting
Jc Dobbs replied to Purplehorn3's topic in On Texas Football Forum
CJ-- I have no doubt and lots of faith in your future. I'm sure you will Choose Wisely (Indiana Jones reference)! Seriously, be as sure as you can be about your choice. Any little things you aren't comfortable with can get magnified over time, so consider that, but also realize there's probably never going to be a perfect match. In retrospect, I chose the wrong GF and got divorced after 21 years of marriage but I got a wonderful daughter out of it all. She graduated from UT with High Honors in 2017 and lives in Los Angeles and works for Riot games. Thanks for all your good work. You are appreciated and respected by the OTF audience. Hook 'Em! -

CJ -- I was a student at Texas way back in the '70s and I had a GF who used to say "there are some you marry but more you practice on." We dated at UT and for several years after... then we both got married to others. I got divorced after 21 years of marriage and she is still married. With the Michigan and Ohio U head coaches in mind, you be careful around the Forty Acres and remember you aren't a student anymore! Hook 'Em! -
