  1. Thanks to Bobby for his reporting and analysis of the situation at Tortilla University. IF they had set about making Tech the power team of the Yormark Conference... and been successful (and maybe a little bit more ethical), THEN they might have been considered worthy of a spot in an expanded BIG or SEC Conference. But NOOooo (John Belushi reference), they had to act like classless Nouveau Riche. Now their chances of being considered for a spot in an expanded Power Conference are in shambles. What a shame... NOT!
  2. Or in the Aggy language, "TU," Tortilla University. The REAL TU!!!
  3. As an older Texas Ex and longtime fan, I have really enjoyed the appearances of former greats like Brad Shearer. In the off-season it's interesting to hear from them. I also enjoy the interviews Gerry and CJ do with recruits and high school players committed to the Longhorns. The interviews with high school coaches are also interesting in the off-season. Frankly, SEC MIKE is the only featured guest I just can't stand. Keep up the great work OTF!
  4. As an American and a native Texan, having lived in six different states and also worked internationally after graduating from UT in 1978, I have come to believe that Free Speech is the right I cherish the most. This question of association with a sponsor's separately expressed public policy and political opinions doesn't bother me. It reminds me of the famous Michael Jordan quote about whether he was politically liberal or conservative. Jordan said "Republicans buy sneakers too." Advertising has helped OTF grow rapidly and I am pleased about that. Personally, I think advertising from sports related wagering sites (given the current Sorsby situation) falls into the same category... that category being whether a business like OTF chooses to accept advertising dollars from certain sponsors. The law firms can express political opinions and the wagering sites are engaging in a legal business. And OTF is fun, informative and growing. Hook 'Em!
  5. Given that reputation he built over the years as a high school coach, reading that script written for him by Campbell's legal team was simply sad. Consider what his reputation could have been...if the coach had resigned and read a statement of his own... with an enhanced reputation for ethics, he most likely would have received consideration for a prime head coaching position at another university the next time the coaching carousel stopped spinning. But no... he's going to be stuck with Tech and Campbell's Sorsby situation going forward. Glad I'm not a Tech fan. Never was, but at least I had grudging respect for the late Mike Leach. Now, Joey's right up there with Art Briles. Hook 'Em!
  6. When Roger Staubach threw that late long desperation heave to Drew Pearson in Minnesota back in the day he called it a "Hail Mary." Tech trying an off-the-field legal and administrative move reminiscent of Staubach's pass. Difference being that Tech's try has even less chance of success. Hook 'Em!
  7. "... taking a new position in his letter this week," of course after the president of Tech received a counseling session from his Spiritual Advisor Cody Campbell. Hook 'Em!
  8. While enjoying the game at the Disch, confer with the associates and come up with a game plan to file multiple suits against the Tech administration and head coach. I was always told anyone could sue anyone else for anything... Well, on second thought... Cody Campbell has such deep pockets that he could/would finance their legal fees into Infinity! Never mind... enjoy the game. Hook 'Em!
  9. I'm so glad the National Championship game vs USC was done by Keith Jackson and it seemed appropriate that it was the last of an era of CFB. Broadcast wasn't High Definition, the longtime announcing crew and the ABC / ESPN format was tried and true. Each time I go back and watch it, I'm reminded of what a great era it was for CFB on television. For a comparison, you can go back and watch a replay of the "Big Shootout" game in Fayetteville in December 1969. The video broadcast on ABC with Chris Schenkel and the former OU coach Bud Wilkinson was absolutely leisurely compared to the modern era CFB broadcasts. I'm old enough to remember when only one CFB game was broadcast on TV each Saturday and teams were limited in how often each could appear on television in a season. Hook 'Em!
  10. I was at the $MU game at the Cotton Bowl Stadium when Roosevelt Leaks rushed for 342 yards from the Fullback position in the Wishbone. He and I graduated in the same class and I told him I enjoyed that performance against $MU. He said it was the only time he'd felt totally exhausted after a game. He was a great player and representative for the University of Texas. Hook 'Em!
  11. He is Cody's POODLE !!! Hook 'Em!!!
  12. Times have certainly changed for CFB. Whatever happened to the NCAA 's David Berst?! He was the NCAA Enforcement Director who was seen perspiring at the Press Conference before taking the stage to announce the "Death Penalty" against $MU for paying players back in the day. Hook 'Em!
  13. Didn't know CJ suffered from Multiple Sclerosis. Obvious reason for his basketball limitation. Apologies... couldn't resist. Hook 'Em!
  14. Thanks Bobby. Classy message from Junior.
  15. My best guess is that Kiffin told Ed he has "One Job," and it's not flippin' pancakes in the dining hall kitchen. Might involve flippin' something else.
  16. Best guess on division of recruiting territories... Gerry covers every High School within a mile of a Chick fil A !!! Hook 'Em!
  17. Surely one of those household name big companies could send a Gulfstream whenever Arch wants to fly somewhere, right?! I'm surprised it's not in at least one of his NIL deals. Arch...a young man of the people. Hook 'Em!
  18. When I was a student at UT '72-'78, the Broken Spoke was out in the country. Same for the Salt Lick. I was in Austin a couple of years ago and I noticed the Broken Spoke as I drove south, and my thought was that it couldn't be... because the Spoke isn't in town surrounded by apartments and businesses! Time flies... Nice video by 'Sconsin. I've been to Madison and it's a nice town and a beautiful campus. I'll take Austin 9 months out of the year and Madison in the summers. Hook 'Em! .
  19. Bad graphic work, indeed. Gerry noted that it's bad graphics... maybe the Zero U football folks did the design while looking into a mirror. Traditionally, the Home team is listed on the Right side and the Visiting team is shown on the left. Additionally, the visitors are shown in White jerseys while the homestanding team is shown in its' home color jerseys. Not the first or the last time OU Football has gotten things backwards...
  20. Congratulations to your niece... always in order because graduating from a big university is an accomplishment. Now, it amazes me about the Horns Down thing...at a game between the two I can understand, but at a graduation ceremony...I just don't get it. When I graduated from UT...not once did anything Aggy cross my mind! Having said that... Hook 'Em!
  21. Yes! All best to Gerry. One of the Good Guys doing Great Work! Hook 'Em for many more! PS ... At HEB yesterday and walking through the frozen food section I glanced to the right at random and you guessed it...CORN DOGS!!!
  22. Thanks. I'd say odds are (!) he had a problem with impulse control... I agree with CJ, who's commented that he doesn't think Sorsby will be eligible to play any more college football. If Sorsby 's attorney works more courtroom magic as he's done in the past... what judge would seek to force the NCAA to restore the QB's eligibility? I don't know the statutes controlling this, but I can't envision a court forcing a governing sports body to accept legal gambling to this degree. I'm not a Tech fan whatsoever, but for the sake of the young man, I hope he gets this under control because at his age, facing his future with this problem would be very difficult. Hook 'Em!
  23. Could it be the pre-snap motion? Lack of complete FOCUS?! Could Arch adjust the snap count for certain play calls that have resulted in the most pre-snap penalties? In Sark's system does the QB determine the snap count (usually according to the play clock, etc., or does it come in with the play call through the QB helmet)? Thanks! Hook 'Em!
  24. Seems like it got up to that (high) level quickly, didn't it? My first thought was to be surprised at how much $ players are being paid after NIL and Rev-sharing came into existence... but my fancy Economics courses at UT taught me that scarcity commands high value, and then you add in the competitive marketplace of colleges and their fans with resources and you get the results we're seeing...coaches and players compensation going ever higher. Oh, and then there's the TV $. In Gerry's area of expertise -- recruiting -- the first cuts are size and speed. Then comes talent, and many people don't realize just how "special" most college athletes are in comparison to, say, the regular student body ( who themselves are "special" because of their test scores and academic skills as students). It's the combination of size, speed and talent that makes the players worth what they are being paid. Thank goodness we're fans of a flagship state university with resources and competitive leadership. Hook 'Em!
  25. I'm not surprised... I'm retired now, but I lived in six different states after graduating from UT and I found people either really liked the Longhorns or they really didn't like them. Going back to the Darrell era some college football fans really liked Texas except when they beat Notre Dame or Bear Bryant's Alabama teams. Regarding Marquise, I remember him making a great TD catch vs OU when he was a freshman. I was in the Cotton Bowl Stadium that day and I looked forward to his future. Sorry he endured that treatment... and sorry VY endured what he received from the Titans HC. Life's just not fair. Hook 'Em!
